Chapter 44

When Emiri returned to consciousness, the TV was on, and a few familiar pros were shown on screen, Vlad King, Aizawa, and Nezu.

"Let's return to a few short clips from the U.A press conference that just wrapped up." A voice from the TV said.

"We are here, to apologize. A recent incident allowed harm to come to 27 first year heroes. And we staff were ill-prepared. We take responsibility for any trauma caused by our negligence. It's our duty to train heroes, but also to protect heroes in training." Aizawa said, the three of them bowing as he finished up his statement.

"I'll take the first question." A reporter in the crowd said. "Since the beginning of the year, U.A students have had four encounters with villains. This time there were students who were gravely injured. How did you explain this to their families? And what are some of the specific steps you're taking to ensure their safety in the future?"

"We will increase patrols around the school grounds, and review security measures within the school. The safety of U.A students takes top priority, leave no mistake about it."

Shame that patrols and reviewing security measures won't stop a threat that's already inside. Emiri thought, the corners of her mouth twitching upwards before falling. She could hear people shouting outside the building she was in, as well as the reporters on the TV muttering amongst themselves.

The mood was changing, people were starting to turn against U.A and hero society, and in turn, that would allow her and other to rebuild it into a newer, better society.

"Isn't that strange?" Shigaraki asked. 'The heroes are becoming the bad guys! Seems like they're not dealing with this very well. So much criticism. But everyone makes a mistake or two, right? It's not like they're supposed to be perfect. Modern day heroes sure have it rough, don't you think, Bakugo?"

"Once a hero receives payment to protect people, they aren't a real hero anymore. That's what Stain's actions taught us." Spinner said from where he was leaning against the wall.

"A hero in this society only cares about money and glory. And since the society buys into those idiotic rules, anyone deemed weak, or a looser is shoved aside. So we want to pose some questions, what is a hero? What is justice? Is the society truly fair? Soon everyone will be asking. That's when we know we've won, and you like winning, don't you?"

Emiri glanced over at Bakugo, seeing that the blond was absolutely seething with rage. She knew that Shigaraki would be able to get him angry.

"Dabi, let him go." Shigaraki said.

"You know he'll just fight." Dabi said.

"It's fine, we're recruiting him! So we should treat him as an equal. Besides, with his little classmate still tied up, I doubt he'd do anything that could possibly cause her harm if he tries to take us all on." Shigaraki glanced at Emiri, his red eyes glitzing from behind the hand mask.

"Hey Twice, you do it." Dabi said.

"Sure thing! No way." Twice responded.

"Do it."

"Aw man." Dabi groaned as he walked over to Bakugo.

"I do apologize for such forceful methods. But please understand that we aren't some kind unruly mob committing crimes without a third act in mind." Mr. Compress said, "We didn't kidnap you two by accident."

Emiri looked over at Bakugo, who was getting his cuffs taken off by Twice. He was oddly silent.

"Even if our backgrounds are different everyone here has suffered. Because of people, rules, and heroes who try to hold us back. I'm sure you're the same." Shigaraki said as he walked towards Bakugo, who was finally release from his confinements and ready to fight.

And fight he did. Emiri watched from her chair as he set off a smoke bomb and lunged at Shigaraki. An explosion went off in the man's face and the hand that he normally had on fell to the ground.

"Shigaraki!" Twice exclaimed.

Emiri grinned, turning her arms and legs into blades and easily freeing herself from her own confinements. She stood up and brushed herself off. Shigaraki might need her help.

"I'm done listening to your endless talking. Can you not get to the point or do you just like your own voice. Basically what you're saying is you're wanting to cause some trouble and you want me to join you. Well screw you."

I knew we should of gone for Todoroki, or Shinso. Emiri thought with a sigh. But no, we had to go for the angry hero admirer because he's hot headed. Emiri thought as she looked at the now grinning Bakugo.

"I like to win. I wanna win just like All Might. No matter what you have to offer me! I will never change, do you understand?"

"I warned you." Emiri said with a sigh, getting the attention on her. Bakugo looked at her with a shocked expression. There was no trace of the scared little girl she was at school, no, instead her expression was eerily calm. Her arms, now blades, glinted in the dim light of the bar as she shifted.

"The hell you sayin'?" Dabi asked.

"Bakugo isn't going to switch sides and join you guys. You should of listened to what I said back there." She grinned and gave Shigaraki a look, telling him to play along.

Dabi grinned, "That's not what the public believes." He grabbed the remote and turned in the TV, the press conference from earlier still playing. At the moment the reporter was asking Aizawa a question- more specifically about her and Bakugo."

"He enrolled in your school with excellent marks and went on to place in the top three in the Sports Festival. Before that he survived the attack of a powerful sludge villain who eventually had to be taken down by All Might." The reporter started.

Emiri internally scoffed. Yeah, because none of the other heroes had the balls to step in.

"The boy is obvious strong and heroic. On the other hand, the violence he displayed in the finals and his attitude at the awards ceremony both show that he cannot control his temper. What if this is the real reason the villains kidnapped him? What if they're brainwashing Bakugo right now, pulling him toward the path of evil? How can you sit there and tell us he still has a future? And the girl, Koyama. She's the daughter of two influential pro heroes, and she's strong as well— placing second in the Sports Festival. But she's said to be naive, the villains could be trying to recruit her as well."

This reporter is good. Emiri thought. He knows exactly what to say to get under someone's skin. Though he got one thing wrong. The villains recruited me a long time ago. She watched the screen with interest as her teacher stood up and after a few seconds he bowed.

"As Bakugo Katsuki and Koyama Emiri's teacher, I take full responsibility for not keeping them as protected as they should of been. And for not taming his violent behavior. However, I know that Bakugo is trying harder than anyone in his pursuit to become the top hero, and I know that Koyama is more strong willed than most believe her to be. If the villains think they have a chance with either of them, then they are grossly mistaken, I can guarantee you that much."

Aw, it's nice to know that Aizawa has so much faith in me! Emiri thought.

"That doesn't amount to evidence though, I didn't ask you how you feel, I asked you if you had concrete information." The reporter said.

This time it was Nezu who spoke. "We're doing our best with the intel we currently have available. I have no doubt the police will break this case very soon. We won't rest until our missing students have returned to U.A."

Bakugo laughed, "Did you hear them? They get me more than I thought. It's just as Koyama warned you, I'll never join your league of bastard!"

Emiri looked at the villain, they had all grouped up in front of them and were ready to attack at a moment's notice. Shigaraki was staring at both of them with pure anger in his red eyes.

"We may not be at camp, but we're still allowed to fight!" Bakugo exclaimed.

Emiri nodded and moved to stand beside him, her blades raised up and ready to attack. She might not be on his side but if Bakugo doubted anything then he would most definitely report it, and that would ruin the disguise she had worked so hard on.

"They must of realized they're important to us. What clever kids." Magne said.

"No, they're fools." Dabi said.

"Let me fight Riri! I'm sure I'll win this time!" Toga exclaimed, clapping her hands together.

"A clever performer would of acted like we were winning them over. Now that they've broken character they're finished."

"I only do whatever I want to, and I won't even pretend otherwise. And I'm tired of being surrounded by some lame ass wannabes!" Bakugo shouted.

"My family's c-counting on m-me to follow in their footsteps. I-I'm not going to disappoint them." Emiri said. Man, the things she says just to keep her cover. Honestly, she could care less about her families expectations.

Shigaraki outstretched his hand, his first movement since Bakugo exploded the hand off his face. Emiri half expected the villain to lunge at Bakugo and decay his hands off or something, but no. Instead he kept his arm outstretched at his side, as if holding the others back.

"Don't lay a finger on them. Any of you." He crouched down and grabbed the hand, keeping his middle finger and pinkie off of the object. "These heroes are still valuable pieces. I wish you would of listened to what I had to say. I thought you and I could come to an understanding."

"What, you think we're the same?" Bakugo asked. "Not a chance!"

"Then I have no choice. The heroes said they'd continue their investigation of our group, so we don't have time to stand here and talk." He turned to the same TV that had been broadcasting the conference, which now had the familiar 'Voice only' screen on it. "Master, lend me your power."

"That is a wise decision, Shigaraki Tomura." The Master said.

While Bakugo's eyes were glued on the villains, Emiri cracked a grin, things were going to get interesting.

Sorry for not updating in a while! I've been distracted with another fic as well as trying to adjust to Online classes (hah, thanks Corona-)

But, here's a chapter! And happy Easter!!

Oh, and I had been tagged a while back and placed it in my art book, it held a spoiler for this story so I thought it would only be fair to share it here. (It does contain vague spoilers, so be warned)

Emiri is more like Kurogiri than most people suspect her to be.
