Chapter 35

It was finally summer vacation, and Emiri found herself at U.A, surrounded by all the other girls of the class.

How did I end up here, again? She asked herself as she stretched with the other girls.

"Wait, so we're not supposed to take any long trips over summer vacation?" Uraraka asked.

"Yeah, apparently that's what the school said." Jiro said.

"How unfortunate. I was supposed to spend several weeks touring Venice with my parents." Momo said.

"Aww! And I just bought like a bazillion new swim suits!" Mina groaned.

"Well, turns out that's what happens when your class is attacked by the League of Villains." Jiro said.

Emiri nodded, "I'm sure they're doing this to keep us safe." She said.

"But I wanna do something! I don't wanna spend my whole summer bored!" Mina said.

"I've got it!" Hagakure exclaimed. "Why don't we hang out at the school pool over summer vacation, huh?"

"Good idea, I bet we could talk the teachers into letting us use it if we ask them nicely!" Tsuyu exclaimed.

"Plus it's free so we'll save money!" Uraraka said.

"That's way better than being cooped up in my room." Mina said.

"Leave it to me, I'll start working on a formal proposal right away!" Momo said.

"It sounds fun and all, but I'm not really the swimming type. Besides, I'll most likely be busy!" Emiri said, lifting her hands up.

"No way! You're totally joining us Koyama!" Mina exclaimed, hooking her arm around Emiri's , "It'll be fun!"

And that was how she had been dragged along. Of course she tried to resist by not answering the door but her brother answered it anyways and he ended up forcing her to go with them as well, so here she was, at the pool, when she could be doing stuff that would better prepare her for the training camp.

On the other side of the pool, the boys had gathered together. Apparently they were going to be using the pool for endurance training.

"Oh hey, Hi M*neta." Tsuyu said.

"I didn't know you guys would be here." Jiro said.

Emiri watched as Iida walked up to the two boys and then carried them back to the rest of the group as they struggled in the boy's arms.

After stretching, the girls for into the pool and started splashing around. Emiri was perfectly content sitting on the side lines and watching as her friends splashed around with a beach ball Mina had brought.

"Aren't you going to join us, Koyama?" Hagakure asked.

Emiri looked towards the invisible girl, "O-oh, no. I'm good here." She said.

"Nonsense! You'll have more fun playing in the water than sitting on the sidelines!"

"I-I'm perfectly fine here."

"Don't tell me, Koyama, do you not know how to swim?" Jiro asked.

Emiri's cheeks warmed up, "I-I, I uh, I totally k-know how to swim! W-who doesn't? I just, don't... find... it, um, fun..." her voice trailed off near the end as she nervously tapped the tips of her fingers together.

"No way! You don't know!" Mina exclaimed.

"Don't advertise it to the whole class!" Emiri whisper yelled, knowing her cheeks were most likely bright pink at this point. "I just never learned is all." It was true, she had been bedridden at the time most kids learned to swim, and by the time she was better that time had passed and Emiri just never had any time to learn.

"Well it's never too late. Here, we can teach you." Momo said. "Besides, what if you encounter some type of water villain while fighting, or have to swim in order to save some civilians?"

"Yeah! You'll be swimming in no time!" Uraraka exclaimed.

"We'll stay in the shallow end so you don't have to worry about your head going under the water, ribbit." Tsuyu said.

It took half an hour, but eventually Emiri was able to go a bit into the deeper end in the pool and float around. For the most part she floated on a wave board that Momo had created. She was kicking around and drifting along as her classmates played around with the beach ball when there was a sudden commotion near the boys.

"You'd better! The next time I beat you I want you to be at your strongest, you damn nerd!" Someone shouted, and Emiri looked over too see Bakugo walking towards Midoriya and Iida.

"K-Kacchan!" Midoriya exclaimed.

"Hey I got your message! Sorry I'm late, took a while to convince Bakugo to come out!" Kirishima said, somehow managing to hold Bakugo back with one arm.

"So, Deku, you wanna settle who's the best between us right now? Huh?" Bakugo asked.

After a second or two Emiri watched as Iida raised his hand to get the boy's attention. "Hey everyone! I propose to see which of the boys can swim 50 meters the fastest! A friendly race!" Iida shouted.

"They're doing a race? Sounds fun!" Hagakure exclaimed, moving to get out of the water, soon followed by the rest of the girls. Emiri followed after them, walking with them as they headed to where Iida was standing.

"Iida!" Momo called out. "Why don't you let us help you out with this."

"Yes, please." Iida said

"And quirks, can we use them?" Ojiro asked.

"We're at school so there shouldn't be a problem with that. However you cannot cause damage toy our classmates or the building." Iida said, sparring a glance at Bakugo.

"I'm gonna annihilate you, Deku." Bakugo said. "And you too, Icyhot, you bastard!"

Emiri let out a sigh, hopefully everyone gets out of this with no injuries.

M*neta, Tokoyami, Bakugo, Koda, and Kaminari lined up at the head of the pool while Momo stood at the end of it with a whistle in hand.

"Alright now, everyone on your marks, get set," she blew the whistle and the boys were off. Most of them jumped into the water, but Bakugo used his explosions to fly over the water, technically winning the round.

I thought this was a race about swimming. Emiri thought. I might not know much about swimming but I think you at least have to touch the water.

"What do you think you're doing?" Sero asked.

"You didn't even touch the water!" Kirishima said.

"It's called freestyle swimming!" Bakugo shouted, small explosions coming out of his hands.

The next group went up, this one consisting of Sero, Todoroki, Aoyama, and Kirishima.

This time none of the boys except Aoyama and Kirishima touched the water- Aoyama had fallen in after his naval laser stopped and Kirishima didn't have a quirk to get him above the water. Todoroki technically touched the water if turning it into ice and sliding over it counted. In the end Todoroki won that round.

"You're supposed to be swimming!" M*neta and Kaminari shouted.

The last group consisted of Ojiro, Iida, Midoriya, and Shoji. Iida— the last person Emiri would suspect of not swimming— used his quirk and propelled himself across the lane separator. Though Midoriya was quickly gaining speed and he soon caught up with Iida, who activated his Recipro-burst and sped towards the end, though ultimately Midoriya won the race.

Midoriya was the only one who won by actually swimming. Emiri thought.

After a bit the three who won each match got to their starting positions— coincidentally it was Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugo.

"And the 50 meter freestyle race will now begin!" Iida called, taking over the referee position. "Now on your marks," Emiri watched as they all got ready, "Get set," Iida blew the whistle and they were off. But before they could get going they stopped in midair and fell straight into the water.

"What happened?" Kaminari asked.

"Why aren't they using their quirks?" Sero asked.

"It's 5 pm. Your authorized pool time is officially over. Hurry up and go home." Aizawa said, his glowing eyes on the three boys as he walked up to the class.

"Come on, just one second." Kaminari said.

"We were finally getting to the good part!" Sero said.

Aizawa's eyes glinted and Emiri let out a few harsh coughs, "Are you questioning me?"

"Not at all Mr. Aizawa!" The class said.

With that everyone headed back to the changing rooms. After everyone had changed out of their swimsuits they all parted ways and headed home.
