Chapter 31

The second day of their study group went by much like the first, except for practical training. As Emiri had said the day before they were going to do some one on one battle training. The fights would be similar to the ones in the Sports Festival— the only difference being that they only had to push their opponent out of bounds within a certain amount of time- incapacitating the opponent was forbidden. To make sure everyone could go before the sun went down the time limit was 10 minutes for each match. After each match, Emiri they would go over what they could improve on before going into the next match.

The night before Emiri had set up a few pairs on who would struggle against each other, she ended up with a lineup that she was quite proud of.

Match 1: Yaoyorozu vs. Kaminari

This battle went by just as Emiri thought it would. Momo created objects to draw in Kaminari's electricity and managed to keep away from him as he tried to get close to her. Eventually she managed to trip him while he was near the boundary line and win the match.

"I did it!" Momo exclaimed, looking towards the group with shining eyes.

"Good job!" Emiri said, clapping her hands together. "I told you that you could do more in a battle if you're able to think of a good strategy! You could still work on your reflexes but I can see you've improved since the Sports Festival." She turned and looked at Kaminari, "you need to work on your mobility, and try to be able to get better at finding an opening on your opponent. I think a single touch should be enough to immobilize your opponent for a bit!"

Kaminari just nodded and gave her a thumbs up. It looked like her had used his quirk enough to fry his brain but not enough to leave him near brain dead. Luckily it seemed that he had processed what she had said. "Alright, let's get the next team up!"

Sero vs. Mina

This match ended in a draw. Sero tried to capture Mina as the pink skinned girl slid around him, managing to stay a good ways away from the boundary line. By the end of their match the room was full of tape and spatters of low ph acid.

"You both are really fast." Emiri said, "Sero, you should work more on aiming at a vastly moving target. I can up the speed on the dummies you were training with yesterday."

"Alright, cool!" Sero said.

"And Mina, you're good at dodging attacks, but you need to work on attacking. You can evade all you want but villain matches aren't timed so you can't just dodge an entire battle."

"Gotcha!"

Once everything got cleaned up they headed onto the next match.

Ojiro vs. Jiro

Jiro was at a heavy disadvantage in this match. Ojiro was able to push her out of bounds with ease by jumping around her and eventually hitting her hard enough to make her skid just enough be be pushed out of bounds.

"If I had my hero costume I would of totally been at more of an advantage." Jiro sighed.

"You can't always depend on your hero costume." Emiri said, "Maybe if you're able to get close enough to your opponent you can use your earphone jacks and wrap them around their wrist. You could try to limit their movement and give yourself an opening— though you'd have to strengthen them quite a bit more."

Jiro nodded. "Right."

"And Ojiro! You did pretty well. Maybe use your tail to propel yourself off of the ground sometimes? Maybe you could use it to dodge something that's low or on the ground by using it to propel yourself off the ground!"

Ojiro nodded, "Sounds good."

Emiri clapped her hands together, "Alright, guess we're done with the one on one battles-"

"Wait, but you haven't gone." Jiro said. "Aren't you going to participate in a battle as well?"

"There was an odd number of people here, and I have access to this whenever I want. I thought you guys should battle sine you don't have access to this place for long."

"But you should still fight." Momo said. "I can fight you if you want."

"Thanks for the offer, Yaomomo, but I've already fought you once and seen you fight, I don't think it would be a fair match."

"You still need to train as well. If we're training then you need to as well." Jiro said.

"Like I said—"

"Woah woah woah! Looks like I walked in on a little training sesh! I saw the lights on and thought mom and pops were home!" Someone called from behind Emiri causing dread to come across the smaller girl's face.

"Hello, Toshiaki." Emiri said.

"Are you guys my bwaby swister's fwiends?" He asked, placing a hand on Emiri's head and ruffling her hair.

Mina, Kaminari, and Sero burst into laughter.

"Hello, sir. My name is Yaoyorozu Momo. It's a pleasure to meet you." Momo said.

Toshiaki grinned, "Koyama Toshiaki. Though you all may know me better as The Guardian Hero: Gabriel!" He grinned, his teeth flashing— most definitely because of his quirk.

"Hey, you should fight your bother." Ojiro suggested.

"No way. He goes too easy on me." Emiri said, puffing her cheeks up in annoyance.

"Thats no true!" Toshiaki complained.

"Just last week I watched as you purposely stepped out of bounds after I just tapped you. We hadn't even started the fight." Emiri said, a completely unamused expression on her face.

"I can't help but let my sickly little sister win a few rounds!"

"Sickly?" Jiro asked, looking at Emiri curiously.

Emiri shook her head and gave them a small smile. "It's nothing you need to worry about. Anyways, I guess it would be good to get in some one on one training for myself. Toshiaki, you open to a match?"

Her brother perked up, "Of course!"

"You promise not to go easy on me this time right?"

"I'll go all out!"

Emiri sighed, "Alright, then. Guess we're doing this. Oh, you guys will be needing these." She grabbed a few sunglasses from a small drawer and handed them to the group before turning to Momo, "Could you count down for us?"

"Of course."

The two siblings headed to their spots on the opposite sides of the arena. The two of them stretched and at the sound of Momo's countdown they both prepared themselves for a fight. Once Momo gave the sign, both siblings rushed towards each other.

Emiri shifted her hand into a shield and before her and her brother collided she crouched down and placed the shield in front of her eyes, blocking out a sudden light that flooded the training room. Once the light died down Emiri ran forwards, seeing her brother stumbling around blinking rapidly to get his eyes readjusted.

Emiri took his momentary blindness and used it to her advantage. She darted forwards and shifted her arm into a pole, she was just about to strike when her brother jumped up in the air, a grin on his face.

"You said not to go easy, right? You didn't expect to win that fast, did you?" Her brother said as he landed.

"Of course not. But don't get to cocky, that's always your downfall." Emiri retaliated, rushing straight towards him and shifted her arm into a pole. She held it almost like a medieval lance and felt it make contact with her brother's stomach. She heard a grunt and quickly pulled back, blocking her vision with her shield once again and shut her eyes tight. Once the light died down she sprung back up and rushed towards him once again, though this time she shifted her arm into a hammer and hit him in the stomach once again. She watched as he skidded back and his heels just barely crossed over the boundary line.

"No way! She beat a pro hero!" Kaminari exclaimed in shock.

Once her brother recovered, Emiri looked at him with annoyance, puffing up her cheeks. "You lied to me! You definitely went easy on me!"

"What ever do you mean?" Toshiaki asked, running a hand through his hair.

"How do you know that, Koyama?" Jiro asked.

"This idiot can manifest wings and fly into the air. He only used one part of his quirk!" Emiri fumed, pointing at Toshiaki who had a somewhat guilty look on his face.

"I couldn't go all out on my baby sister! What kind of older brother would I be?"

"A brother that respect his sister's requests!"

"Even so, you still beat a pro hero who has had more training with their quirk." Momo said, "That's an impressive feat."

Emiri shrugged. "Not really— well, at least with Toshiaki and I. We've been sparring since I was twelve, so I've managed to memorize most of his moves and I know his drawbacks. If I were against any other pro or he had his support items I wouldn't stand a chance just yet."

Above them, an alarm sounded briefly and Emiri clapped her hands together. "Well, looks like that's the end of our training. Finals exams are tomorrow, everyone, do your best!"
