Chapter 2

Emiri pulled her attention from the assignment she was working on and turned to look towards the TV, where a fight between a hero and a villain was being broadcasted, as she watched, she let her mind wonder. It was getting closer to the end of the school year, and the U.A entrance exams were even closer, being only a few days away. There were multiple occasions where Emiri's parents offered to recommend her to the school- a sure way for her to get in- but Emiri wanted to participate in the exams, she wanted to prove herself, as well as see the quirks of all the other students participating.

Emiri was what people might call a quirk- or hero fanatic- though she preferred the phrase 'Hero Analyzer'. She payed attention to the heroes that she's seen in action, in person or on TV, and took notes. The name of the quirk and any details that were readily available to the public as well as any and all drawbacks the quirk holds. Her notes go into detail, since she jots down everything. Not even the Number 1 hero All Might was safe from her analysis. Though, there was something that made her different than other fanatics. She took notes on the villains too. Any villain that a hero has fought, she's taken notes on. The more she knew about the kinds of quirks out there, the better for her in the future, as well as the more useful she could be.

Glancing at the notebook that laid next to her assignment, Emiri knew the fight that was currently going on would hold valuable information that could go inside the notebook. After a few seconds of reasoning she figured that she deserved a break and grabbed the notebook, turning her attention towards the fight that was onscreen.

The fight wasn't too interesting, the hero had managed to get the villain captured in almost no time at all. Which Emiri was slightly annoyed about. She barely got time to observe their quirks, not to mention it looked as if the villain had almost chance of winning. With a sigh, she placed her notebook on her lap and turned back to her assignment, though kept an ear out for any more broadcasted villain attacks.

Taking a deep breath, Emiri stepped off the train and looked around the station she was in. The days had passed by quickly, and it was now time for the U.A entrance exam. To say she was nervous was an understatement, though she managed to keep her chin up and walk thorough the crowd of people.

As she walked up the hill to the famous school, Emiri tried not to think of everything that could go wrong if she didn't get in. There was more at risk than her family being disappointed in her, thinking about it, this exam really could mean life and death for her, though being honest, she really didn't want to think about what could happen to her if she failed.

While she was lost in the thought of trying not to think, Emiri realized she was already up the hill and at the front gate. Looking up at the building, Emiri took a deep breath and started walking forwards. The exams would be starting soon and she didn't want to be late. Her hands tightened around the strap of the shoulder bag she was wearing and with a sudden burst of determination, she walked inside the building.

After following the crowd to the registry table, Emiri grabbed her examinee card and followed a small crowd towards the auditorium everyone trying for the hero course would be going to. Once she stepped inside, she looked around for a place to sit. As she was looking around, she spotted two familiar faces. Iida and Clover were sitting a few rows from the front, and it looked like there was an empty seat right besides Iida. She was relived to see familiar faces.

"Ah, Miss Koyama!" Iida greeted once Emiri walked up to them.

"Hello Iida, Clover." Emiri said, bowing slightly, "I'm glad to see some familiar faces."

"I am too. I was a nervous wreck before I saw Iida." Clover said as Emiri sat down. "There are just so any people here."

Emiri nodded, "There are, I almost turned back around when I got to the gate."

"It is intense. Seeing how many people who want to get into this school really puts the pressure on you." Iida said.

"Yeah. I almost don't feel like I have a chance." Emiri muttered.

"Nonsense, with who your family is, I'm sure you'll get in." Clover reassured.

"I don't know." Emiri muttered. "Just because my family is full of heroes doesn't mean I'll be sure to get in. I'm taking the exam like the rest of you, I have the same chances of getting in as any other kid."

"I guess." Clover muttered.

Their conversation was put to a halt as the voice hero, Present Mic, sauntered on stage, a grin on his face and his hair strangely similar to a cockatoo's. Emiri watched as he walked to the podium and turned to the students, all of the examinees quieted down as he started to speak.

"Hey, Hey! What's up UA candidates. Thanks for tunin' into me, your school DJ." Present Mic exclaimed as he opened his arms towards the crowd. "Come on and let me hear ya!" He turned and placed a hand near his ear, only to be greeted by silence from the nervous students. "Keepin' it mellow, huh? That's fine, I'll get straight to the main show. Let's talk about how this practical exam is going to go down, okay?"

"Are you ready?" Like before, nobody answered him, after waiting a minute or two, he continued on. "Like your application said, today, you rockin' boys and girls will be out there conducting ten minute mock battles in suburban settings!"

On the screen behind him, a small box that was marked marked 'You Are Here' popped up, with seven little boxes expanding from them, all a different letter and color.

"Get ready my friends, as I drop the mic here, you'll head to your specified battle center, sound good?"

"It looks like we're in different battle centers." Iida observed.

"They probably want to split classmates up." Emiri said. "To decrease the likelihood of students working together."

"Okay?" Present Mic asked again, seeming to really want to get a response out of the nervous crowd of students. An image of a city appeared on the screen behind Present Mic, who had seemed to give up on getting a response. "Okay, okay! Let's check out your targets." Three silhouettes appeared on the screen. "There are three types of villains in every center, you'll earn points based on their level of difficulty, so better choose wisely." A video game like picture appeared on the screen of Present mic facing the different monsters, the first one was 1 point, the second 2 points, and the third 3 points. "The goal in this trial is to use your quirk to raise your score by shredding these foes like a rad guitar solo! But check it, make sure you're keeping things heroic, attacking other examinees of UA is a no-no, you dig?"

"But that doesn't make sense." Iida muttered as he looked at the paper that they had all been handed before jumping up and raising his hand high in the air. "Excuse me sir, but I have a question."

Present Mic pointed towards the boy, "Hit me!" He exclaimed.

"On the print out, you've listed four typed of villains not three. With all due respect, if this is an error on official UA material, it is shameful. We are exemplary students, we expect the best from Japan's most notable school, a mistake such as this won't do." He then pointed to a kid in the crowd who Emiri had noticed was muttering almost the entire time, "Additionally, you with the unkept hair. You've been muttering this entire time. Stop that. If you can't bother to take this seriously, leave. You're distracting the rest of us."

"Alright, alright." Present Mic exclaimed, getting the attention back on him. "Examinee number 7111, thanks for calling in with your request. The fourth villain is worth zero points! That guy's just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way. There's one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurtle you should try to avoid. It's not that it can't be beaten, but there's kinda no point." He motioned towards the screen. "I recommend my listeners to ignore it and focus on the
Pones top of the chart."

Iida bowed, "Thank you very much, please continue." He sat back down and the spotlight turned off.

"Did you really have to ask that?" Clover asked.

Iida just nodded.

"That's all I got for you today. I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto! As general Napolion Bonavard once layed down, 'A true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes.' Mmhm. Now that sound right? You ready go beyond? Let's hear applause Plus Ultra!"

The words 'Plus Ultra' flashed on the screen, extremely showy and fancy.

"Good luck, hope you practiced more than just books."

All around her, Emiri watched as students got up to head to their designated classrooms for the written portion of the exam. Turning towards Clover and Iida, she gave them a smile. "Well, good luck you two."
