Chapter 19

The last two matches of the first round were both interesting in their own ways.

The match right after Emiri's was Kirishima against class 1-B's Tetsutetsu. The two of them had very similar quirks, one of them could harden their skin in the appearance of rocks, and the other could harden their skin in the appearance of steel. Their battle ended in a draw, which would end up being decided after the last match of the first round.

The next battle was Uraraka against Bakugo. Emiri was concerned for Uraraka at first— Bakugo had a tendency to go overboard. And during the battle that tendency got the crowd to start booing him— only to shut up when Mr. Aizawa scolded the hero who had started to heckling. Uraraka later proved herself a strong opponent when she sent a meteor shower of rubble straight towards Bakugo, and thought the plan was good, it was all blown to bits— literally. Bakugo blew up the rubble that was falling straight towards him. Uraraka ended up passing out from over exertion and Bakugo moved onto the next round.

After a short break and a tie breaker between Tetsutetsu and Kirishima. They had an arm wrestling match and eventually Kirishima won, moving onto the second round. The second round soon started, the first match being Todoroki against Deku. To say the battle was stressful to watch was an understatement. Todoroki would send wave after wave of ice towards Deku, who would use his quirk and break his fingers to destroy the ice rushing straight towards him. Deku started shouting at Todoroki, saying that his quirk was his own— it was his own power. That ended up being Deku's downfall. Todoroki flamed up and Deku was sent flying out of the boundary. Todoroki moved onto the third round.

The second match was Iida against Ibarra— the match ended quickly with Iida using his speed to puts Ibarra out of the boundary. Iida moved onto the third round.

Next was Emiri against Mina. Emiri took a deep breath and walked onto the field as Present Mic started to announce the two of them.

"In this next match, we have the student who slid right into our hearts with her trail of acid, it's Ashido Mina! Against the student who's proved herself to be a worthy opponent despite her small appearance, it's Koyama Emiri!"

Emiri looked around and flashed the crowd a smile, giving them a small wave. She listened as the crowd exploded into cheers, some rooting for her and others rooting for Mina. Emiri turned her attention to Mina.

Her acid's going to be a threat. I doubt she would make it acidic enough to burn through my skin, it will hurt like hell if any of it got on me. She rolled up her sleeves, determination burning in her eyes. I've managed to dodge Toga's attacks with her knives— and she's fast. So if I can dodge any acid Mina throws then I can either get her out of bounds or incapacitate her.

At the sound of the buzzer, the match started. Emiri lowered herself and ran— similar to how Uraraka ran during her fight with Bakugo. Being low to the ground made it easier for her to dodge Mina's attacks while also getting close to the pinkette.

Mina had thrown a ball of acid that was heading straight towards Emiri's head. Emiri skidded to a halt and lifted her shield, the ball splattering against it and dripping to the ground. Emiri winced slightly— though her arm had been turned into the shield, she still felt the burning of the acid. She turned her arm back to normal, seeing that red spots had appeared on the back of her forearm, around the area where it had hit her shield.

It hurts... but it's not burning through the skin. Emiri thought, turning her uninjured arm into a large hammer, once again getting low and running towards Mina, this time in more of a zig-zag pattern. She got close to her, and swung, the hammer making contact with Mina's stomach and sending her flying back and out of bounds.

"Ashido is out of bounds! Koyama moves onto the next round!"

The crowd went wild, and Emiri headed over to where Mina was laying on the ground, holding her stomach. "You okay?" She asked, Mina's only response was a groan.

Emiri watched as she was placed onto a stretcher by two of Recovery Girl's robots, and she followed them to Recovery Girl's office. The burn on her arm was starting to hurt a lot and she hoped that Recovery Girl would be able to heal it.

After Recovery Girl looked over Mina and healed the bruising that had started to appear on her stomach, she sent the pinkette back to the seating area after giving her some gummy bears. She then looked over to Emiri, who was standing near one of the beds, Deku laying in the one close to the window, getting some rest after the intense healing he had received from Recovery Girl.

"Alright, let's get that burn looked at." She said, walking up to her. After a second or two, she puckered her lips and kissed the area where Emiri had gotten burned and immediately relief spread over her as the pain from the burn subsided. She looked up towards Recovery Girl, knowing that the woman had more to say to her— and she knew it wasn't going to be words of reassurance. "Now, Miss Koyama, you haven't been coming to the check-ups we had arranged. You seem to be doing well for now, but with your past medical issues you need to be more cautious. We don't know if you'll take a turn for the worse one day."

Emiri nodded, "Yes ma'am." She said.

Recovery Girl huffed and muttered some things about reckless youths before handing Emiri some gummy bears. "Now, help Young Midoriya back to the seating area. He's had his surgery and I can tell he's restless to head back up and watch the matches."

Emiri nodded and after a few minutes her and Deku were heading through the halls.

"Are you okay?" He suddenly asked, and Emiri looked towards him.

"What do you mean?"

"Recovery Girl mentioned something about medical issues, are you okay?"

Emiri smiled sadly, "Well—"

"Ah, wait! Sorry! I'm being too forward, you don't have to tell me anything you don't want to!" Midoriya shouted in a panic.

"Don't work yourself up, it's fine." Emiri said. "When I was younger, I was really sickly. Most days I only had the energy to sit up in bed and stare out the window. It wasn't until I was 12 that I started doing better. Everyone describes my recovery as a miracle. The doctors think it was the work of a sudden quirk mutation but when they tested me for any new quirks, nothing came up. Honestly, I think it was the work of someone else's quirk... but I'm no doctor so I can't say anything for sure."

"Wow, I would of never guessed." Deku said, a solemn look appearing on his face as he stared at the ground. "I'm sorry you-"

Emiri giggled, "Don't be sorry! I'm fine now, so I'm going to be able to obtain what I've worked hard for!"

Deku smiled, "Yeah, I guess you're right."

Emiri's smile turned into a grin, "Now, let's go watch the last match, it Bakugo against Kirishima!"
