Epilogus

{Epilogus} Epilogue

There was a light tap on the door as Arya called out, "Come in."

She had not been expecting anyone this early in the morning. If she was being completely honest, the only reason she was awake at this ungodly hour was the fact that King Zander had requested a report of the Zelie Academy but both she and Aaron had been very busy the last few days to fulfill his request. Yesterday, she and Aaron had both received a very annoyed letter from the King himself and Aaron had asked Arya to finish the progress report.

Although Arya had not wanted to do it, Aaron promised he would take care of the next ten reports that needed to be answered so Arya had readily agreed. When Arya and Aaron had both taken the spot of Headmaster and Headmistress at the newly formed Zelie Academy, neither of them had realized how much paper work would be involved.

"Lady Arya, this arrived in the mail for you," One of her guards, a newly crowned knight named Julian spoke.

Arya took the letter and dismissed him. Although she had argued with King Zander about not needing a guard, he had told her it was more so practice for the knight himself then her. He told her he wanted the boy to learn to be a better swordsman and there was nobody better to teach him than Arya herself. Arya  begrudgingly agreed to train him but not without making the knight suffer.

She paused from the middle of her report to open the envelope and a letter spilled out. She picked up it and from the familiar loopy handwriting, Arya knew that it was from Yasmin.

Dear Arya, it read.

Life has been crazy here as usual. One of my cousins is getting married so we have all be preparing for her wedding. Let me tell you something, Arabian weddings are insane, the number of clan members that have arrived so far is preposterous.

Although I love it here, I miss Kalvaria so much sometimes. What would I be doing if I was there? Would I be teaching at the academy? I missed fighting so much that I took it upon myself to teach the little children how to fight. They seemed so excited to learn but before I could continue further, my uncle came and took away all the swords.

I was fuming! Although he did come back later and give me sticks to use in my lessons so the children would not get hurt. It was actually very thoughtful of him.

I miss you a lot and maybe I'll be able to visit you next month if I beg my parents. Write to me soon.

Love,

Yasmin

Arya folded the letter with a smile. The two of them had not talk for about six months after Lady Zelie's death. Then one day, Yasmin had mysteriously chosen to arrive at Arya's residents and beg for forgiveness. She had been crying and Arya had let her inside before making some tea to make her feel better.

Yasmin had apologized for her behaviour before confession that she was having a difficult time sleeping and remaining in Kalvaria. There was just something about her confession that had been so honest which had also promoted Arya to reveal her own troubles. The two of them had sat together talking about the good times and Arya had enjoyed it. She had not gotten a moment to talk to someone besides Aaron and there was just something different talking about a girl.

At the end of their conversation, Yasmin had also confessed that she was going back home to Egypt. She had told Arya she missed her family and Kalvaria had reminded her of the many deaths of her friends. Arya had made her a promise to write to her and since then, the two of them exchanged letters back in forth for the last seven years writing what had occurred in their lives.

It wasn't a perfect method, but the two of them made it work. And that is what was important.

Arya rose from her chair before brushing off the specks from her clothing. Even before Arya had become the headmistress, she had refused to wear any gowns. Although they were stunning, Arya knew they restricted movements and she hated that.

Arya opened the mahogany doors and smiled at the sight of seeing the students running around to get to their classes. It was something that reminded her of her own time at the Narvian Academy when she would be rushing to get to her class. The only thing that was different was that the academy was both for females and males as well.

They both had separate dorms on either side of the academy however their classes were together. Arya found that it increased the rivalry between the two groups but it also caused for some other issues as well that Arya hated talking to the students about.

As Arya walked through the halls, she observed the classes that were already in session. Most of the students seemed eager to learn however there were some trouble makers that Arya spoke to. Aaron always loved to comment that the students were terrified of her more than him but Arya took that as a good sign. It meant that the students respected her enough and they listened to her when she spoke.

Arya passed by Jennica's class and she smiled when their eyes met. Although Arya and Jennica were not the closest friends, they had become much accepting of one another in the last few years. Now Jennica taught Kalvarian History to the academy students. The students loved Jennica's classes and she was one of the most popular teachers in the academy. Jennica had always been popular in school as a student and now she was popular as a teacher and that's when Arya knew there were just something things that never changed.

Glancing at the grandfather clock in the middle of the hallway, Arya rushed towards her class. She was going to be late. If there was something that had not changed over the years it was Arya's distaste towards being late wherever she might be. It didn't matter if it was a student or the King of Kalvaria, it was rude either way.

Just as the clock bonged to signal the beginning of class, Arya strolled in with grace. Aaron was already standing in front of the class and he gave her a smirk when he saw her disheveled appearance. Arya returned his gaze by narrowing her own eyes.

"And that is what you should not be doing," Aaron said to the group of students that were seated in front of him.

Arya brushed of invisible specks of dirt, "You can say anything, but I was not late Aaron."

"I know, I'm just teasing you."

Arya rolled her eyes and looked around the room. The training room was perhaps the most impressive place in the entire academy after the library. It was a joint training room and there was a pathway that led to the training room of the Kalvarian Knights in the palace. It was perfect because students were able to observe the knights and how they fought.

It was Aaron who started the class. "Today's lesson is going be something different," Aaron began before giving Arya a mischievous look.

Arya had no idea what he had planned so she inclined her head to allow him to continue.

"Lady Arya and I are going to engage in a duel."

It was as if the energy in the room multiplied after Aaron spoke those words. The students looked more engaged then ever as they began whispering to one another.

"But there is more," Aaron continued, "It will be a tag team battle so two of you will be joining us as well."

Arya's cocked her eyebrows in surprise. Well, it seemed as though thing would be getting interesting in today's class. Even without looking at the throng of students, Arya already knew who she would be selecting.

"Mila would you like to have the honour of being my partner?" Arya asked.

A thin dark-haired girl stood up. Her face was void of emotions and her hair was tied in a stiff bun. In someone ways, Mila reminded Arya of Lady Zelie often. The girl was an excellent swordsman but she was also someone who got along with others, a quality that she shared with Lady Zelie.

Aaron selected one of the more muscularly built boys from the group and they both faced off.

"You're going to lose darling," Aaron taunted her lightly.

Arya merely gave him a sly smile. It had been seven years since the war and everything was at peace now. She loved teaching at the academy and Lady Zelie's spirts still lived on in the academy students. It made the loss much easier.

And Although Arya may have not fought anyone in a while; she had not lost her skills. She was going to win this duel for sure. "We'll see about that My lord." she said with a smile before running forward with Anaz.

Although they may be evenly matched under most circumstance, Arya was going to fight tooth and nail to make sure she didn't lose.

After all, she hated loosing.
