Chapter 2
It had been hours since the ship entered hyperspace, and man was I bored. Me and 3742 spent the time helping out the pilots in the hanger and training. The Kasha is an Arquitens III-class prototype light cruiser. An experimental ship for an experimental unit.
Just thought you should know. "3977, stop breaking the 4th wall." 3742 said as he fiddled with his blaster. "Fine." I said as others in the barracks nearby looked confused.
The confusion faded as I hopped off the top bunk. The Captain, Threez we have taken to calling him, entered the barracks. "Captain on deck!" Someone said. We all lined up as he stood before us.
"Alright men, I have received intel that the battle has ended, and we've been reassigned! Apparently a jedi has been assigned to lead us! I know we've not known each other long, but I expect you all to follow orders to your best ability!" He said.
"Sir! What if he's like this Krell we were warned about?" A trooper asked. Most troopers have heard rumors of a jedi named Krell that sent his entire clone unit to death. Even instructors would warn cadets like me about him.
"Then we do our best to stick together and survive! However, the one who informed me of the reassignment spoke of the jedi well! Now get ready and go to the hanger! Stagard formation!" He ordered.
I grabbed my backpack off my bunk and readied my weapon. I waited for 3742 to put the clip back in his blaster before we went to the hanger. Stagard formation was basic. Smallest blaster to biggest blaster, front to back. It was not my favorite.
3742 had a different opinion. Wonder if he can somehow transfer that to me.
We watched as the Kasha exited hyperspace, and the ships that we were supposed to reinforce were repairing themselves. I could only watch as a ship grew closer and closer before I could finally make it out.
A jedi assault ship. Like the simulations showed. It landed in the small, but genius hanger. The hanger itself was small, but had slots up on the top sides for a crane to move and store ships. However, all six slots were taken by the LAAT transports.
The Captain walked up to the jedi as they hopped out of the ship, a C-Series astromuch following the robed figure. Then I lost sight as the troopers before me blocked my view.
Bruh.
We waited as I heard the distant talking of the two higherups. It was too distant to make out, but we all heard the next words loud and clear.
"Attention!"
I followed the rest in changing pose. "Uh, thank you, Captain." I heard as I saw glimpses of the jedi move before the formation. "My name is Jacob Kake! I have the honor of leading you all, and I intend to do so to the best of my abilities!"
I already like the bloke.
"With that out of the way, I've been told of our latest assignment! We, and the Kasha, are to be a sort of tactical unit! Deployed to where we're needed most! I know it's sudden, but our first assignment is now, and it should be easy!"
"We're to set up a FOB and secure it's area for another unit! The Kasha moves out soon! Dismissed!" He yelled. I relaxed my pose as the others dispersed.
I decided to go and get my things ready, only for a voice to call me over. I turned to see 3742 waving me over. I didn't fail to notice General Kake and the Captain by his side. There goes my plans of being alone.
I walked up to the trio with my Z-6 slung on my shoulder. "General, Captain, meet 3977." 3742 introduced me. "Sirs." I greeted. "Nice to meet you." General Kake greeted. "Trooper." The Captain nodded.
"So, uh, do any of you have anything other than your number that you'd rather be called?" Kake asked, being polite. I looked at 3742, 3742 looked at me. I looked back at Kake. "Long Dic-" I started before 3742 cut me off.
"You're not calling yourself Long Dick Johnson." "Who says I cant?" I asked. "Trooper, if you find someone willing to call you that, I'd give you my rations." The Captain bet. "Betting against me is as foolish as sucking off a landmine." I retorted.
"Foolish it may be, but if you do it after the third date then it's okay." Kake explained.
And just like that, we spent the next three hours talking to each other about random things until Kake looked at the time. "I need to go meet the Admiral, I hope we meet again." He said before leaving. The Captain made his excuse before leaving as well.
"I like them." 3742 said. "Me too." I responded as we started walking away. Wait. "Well shit." I said. "What?" 3742 asked. "We didn't come up with names." I said. He looked down for a moment before shrugging. "Maybe later." He said.
I nodded as we left the hanger.
