This chapter is a flashback continuing from "Twins and Friend." John Sheppard is still stuck in the pipe filled with fast-running rainwater while his unnamed brother and unnamed friend holds his hand. John's brother and friend leave John to get help. They run home to their abusive father and babysitter, who has continued drinking after chasing the boys and girl off for the day. The boy and girl desperately try to get his father and her babysitter to come save John, and even resorts to trying to physically pull his father and her babysitter along. The drunk shoves the boy and girl away, declaring that his brother's and her friend's death will mean "one less greedy mouth to feed."

Dismayed and heartbroken, the boy and girl return to John, who can barely keep his head above water. The boy and girl plead with him to hang on and not die, but John is running out of strength and can only mutter "Don't forget about me, Scottie and Rae-Rae." Scott Sheppard and Rae Hamilton helplessly watch his twin brother and her friend drown while holding his hand.
