Sage's PoV
*gasp*
I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was the sun. It was bright and warm, and much bigger than usual. I looked around, taking in my surroundings. I was sitting in an open meadow, and there were no trees in sight. I looked down at the ground and saw grass that was tinted with blue. Wh-where am I? "Mom?" I called out. "Miss Linbark?" I looked around, hoping to see a familiar face.
Seeing no one, I collapsed to the ground, fear overwhelming me. I held my knees, panic and fear starting to take over. "Mom," I said as I rocked back and forth. "Where are you?" I looked up at the sky and squinted. "Where am I?"
After sitting down for a while, I got up and decided to do some exploring. I walked around, not really looking for anything, just wandering. From the corner of my eye, I noticed something shining. I turned my head in its direction and tilted my head slightly. What's that? I walked towards it, crouching to pick it up.
It was a silver necklace. It's pendant appeared to be a claw of some sort with a clear crystal ball in its grasp.
I fiddled with the necklace for some time before deciding to put it on. I looked around some more, hoping to find another treasure. Not finding anything else, I started walking in a straight line.
I walked for what seemed like hours, and I was about ready to give up walking. "Water..." I looked around, hoping to find some kind of water source.
"Miâl!" I heard someone yell. I turned around in the direction of the voice, and saw that I was in a forest. What? But I was just... I was in a forest!
"Miâl!" The voice yelled again. "Who's there?" I asked as I turned around, checking to see if anyone was behind me.
"RRAAAEEGGGHHHH!!!!" I stood still, frozen in fear. I turned my head slowly as I started to tremble. I wanted to scream but I couldn't. A creature of massive size stood about sixty feet away from me.
It looked like a combination between a bull and a lion. It's fur was a deep, dark brown, with specks of gold. It's eyes were on the sides of its head with an extra one in the middle. It stood on four legs, with feet like a bulls but with claws coming out of the hooves. It's tail was big and long, with green fur at the end of it.
I felt sweat dripping down my face as I watched it dig into the ground with its hooves, it's eyes bloody red and steam coming out of its giant nostrils.
I finally regained movement and backed away slowly.
I tripped on a root and fell down, then it charged. It's muscles flexing as it ran towards me, and it's mouth open, revealing rows of what appeared to be human teeth. It screamed an eerie yell that made me tremble in fear.
I scrambled back up, but slipped on the leaves and mud underneath me. I crawled back and closed my eyes, preparing for the end.
"Gala tûg Miâl!" Someone yelled as my arm was grabbed and I was roughly pulled up. I was being pulled along by what appeared to be a person. I looked back at the beast and saw that it was still chasing us, making me panic as it got closer.
The stranger took out a purple sphere, which was the size cherry, and handed it to me. He stopped running and turned around, now facing me. "Ekt mâi lin." He said. I looked at him with a confused expression, worrying about the beast that was behind us. "Ekt mâi lin!" He shouted. His expression quickly turned into a frown when he saw I didn't understand.
He snatched the fruit out of my hand then shoved it in my mouth, then he took out another fruit and immediately did the same. "Svâltiv!" He shouted. I assumed he wanted me to swallow it, so I did, and immediately after swallowing, I appeared somewhere else.
"Miev'n" I turned around and saw the stranger, signaling for me to follow him. "Miev'n!" He repeated, and I could hear the frustration in his voice. I walked towards him and he started to walk.
"U-um, thank you." I said as I looked at him, only seeing his back. He turned his head, as if he was about to say something, but apparently changed his mind and looked forward again. I looked down and frowned, feeling ignored.
Neither of us spoke to each other as we walked. I looked around, noticing several other people. Their skins were a variety of colors. Some of them had purple skin, some had reddish skin, and the others had either green, gold, or silver skin. Their skins were shiny and shimmery, almost scale like in their appearance.
I looked up at the man, examining his appearance. His skin was different from the others, along with his build. He was much taller than the others, and he had a nice muscular build. His skin was a nice tan, though it still shimmered slightly with some scales. His hair was short and messy, it's color a crimson red.
He halted abruptly, causing me to slam into his back. I rubbed my nose and looked at him, curious as to why he stopped so suddenly. His expression was frightening, and it sent chills down my spine. I looked over at what he was looking at, and saw another man. His skin was gray and his hair was a dark, forest green.
He looked at us and smirked, before he started walking towards us.
He too was tall and muscular, and his eyes were a piercing bright green. Something about him reminded me of someone, someone I didn't like.
"Coltâv!" The stranger called out when he reached us, giving the man next me me a big hug. "Nân si throâg?" He looked at me, squinting his eyes as he came closer. "Ih't Slân." The man next to me put his arm out in front of me in a protective manner.
The stranger grinned as he looked at me, then backed away as he put his hands up in a form of innocence. "Jâ já," He put his hands down and frowned. "Coltâv," he said, and I guessed this was the man's name. "Grôv mitrân." He looked at us, and smiled, but his smiled disappeared and he walked off.
I heard mumbling and looked up at the man, who's name I assumed was Coltâv. He was shaking his head as he pinching his temple. It sounded like he was muttering silent curses.
He glanced over at me, then shook his head. "Miev'n." He said as he resumed walking. I followed behind him, struggling to keep up with his pace.
He stopped walking, but this time I avoided slamming into his back. I looked up, a giant tree was in front of us. It's branches meandering to and fro. It was so large I couldn't see the top of it, yet alone the end of it.
He looked at me and pointed to where I was standing. Laâk bîv." He said as he walked away slowly. I attempted to follow him but he immediately turned around, pointing at the ground again and repeating what he said in a low growl. Laâk bîv." His voice now filled with frustration.
Finally understanding what he wanted, I nodded my head and stood still. He gave an approving nod before walking off, slowly at first, glancing over occasionally to see whether or not I was staying put. He then quickened his pace towards the giant tree, muttering some words when he reached it.
A gateway formed on the tree, granting him access. He glanced over at me once more before entering, and the entrance closed off after he entered.
I waited there for some time, wondering whether or not he was going to come back. I looked around, growing bored in just standing there.
"Sa...e..." I jumped slightly when the voice. "Who's there!?" I yelled, my voice filled with anger and fear. I felt a sharp pain on my neck and looked down, the necklace I had picked up was now glowing red, as if it was just pulled out of a fire. "Sag...e.. He..a-" "Stop it!" I yelled as I tried to wretch the necklace off of me, but immediately let go when it burned my hand.
"You are..." The voice said. I screamed and yelled in frustration as I failed a second attempt in taking the necklace off. "Who are you!?" I yelled, looking around. "Sage... Heart..." "Just leave me alone!" I pulled at the necklace again, finally succeeding in taking it off.
I threw it on the floor and rubbed my neck, feeling the area where I'd been burned already starting to blister. I hissed in pain as I rubbed over the wound.
The necklace glowed a bright red. I walked up to it, bending down to examine it closer. The crystal ball was now dancing with dozens of different colors, drawing me in. It was as if it was trying to tell me something, something I'd forgotten.
My thoughts were interrupted by someone speaking. I looked over and saw that it was Coltâv. He was talking with someone, and they would occasionally glance over at me. I stood up and walked towards them, glancing back at the necklace once more before turning my attention over to the two people.
"Thoâg si Minâ." Coltâv pointed at the person standing next to him, looking back and forth at us as if he was worried we might fight or something. The person standing next to him was a short woman. Her skin a bright violet color, and her hair silver. Her eyes were a dazzling gold, and her pupils were slanted like a threatened cat.
Her beauty was stunning, and her short height only made her more appealing.
She looked me up and down, then walked around me in circles. "Croâg glâv." She said as she poked my side with the spear she was holding, making me shout out in pain.
I quickly backed away and held my side, rubbing it gently as I gave her a dirty look. "What was that for!?" I looked over at my side and saw a small tear in my shirt.
I looked at her and saw a small grin on her face. She walked up closer to me, like a predator walking up to its cornered prey.
"Crûne!" She lunged at me and knocked me down. I tried pushing her off me, but surprisingly, she was too heavy.
"Minâ!" Coltâv yelled as he pulled the girl off me. I sat up slowly and rubbed my head.
"What is wrong with you!?" I stood up and glared at the girl. I knew she couldn't understand me, but I couldn't help but ask.
She look at me and tilted her head slightly, smiling as she giggled.
"Coltâv," she looked up at him and held up her hand, as if to whisper. I couldn't hear her speaking, but it felt like she was making fun of me.
But what did I care? I didn't know these people, nor did I want to. I just wanted to get out of here as soon as I could.
"Sage.." I looked back at the necklace, watching it as it glowed a bright red, then blue, then green.
I wanted to go back to it, to pick it up, but I didn't want to risk being burned again.
I felt a tug on my sleeve and looked down, seeing the girl pulling on it. I jumped back, but couldn't get that far because she was hold onto me.
Boy was she strong.
"Minâ." I heard Coltâv grumble. I looked down at the girl and tilted my head.
"Mi..nâ?" She looked up at me, a big smile on her face.
"Jâ, jâ!" She threw her arms around my waist, and squeezed me.
I was surprised by her sudden action, and tried to squirm out of it, but she was too strong.
I looked over at Coltâv, asking for help. He understood my pleading looks and peeled the girl off of me.
I was surprised at how easily he pulled her off me, but didn't think too much of it.
The girls face was replaced with a frown as Coltâv set her on the ground, away from me.
She looked at me, and muttered some words which, of course, I couldn't understand.
She tried to run over at me but was held back by Coltâv.
"Minâ." He said as he looked down at her threateningly. He continued to speak to her, but it was obvious she wasn't paying attention. Instead, her gaze was on the necklace.
I looked back at the necklace, which was still glowing, then back at the girl. Coltâv's attention also changed, he too was looking at the necklace.
They both looked at each other, fear written all over their faces.
It was then that I learned just how quickly things could change, even in the blink of an eye.
