Chapter 99: Battle at the Beast Grave Canyon (East) II

[Beast Grave Canyon]

Gundahar is one of the renowned tribal chief and the sole leader of the eastern front of the snow peak mountain range, which is well known for his strength, bravery, courage, and his excellent leadership. He made a name for himself during his childhood years. Back then he was called the toughest kid in his village camp and led the group of kids all over the place in order to play.

When there are trouble happening among their group, he was always the first one to step up in order to punish the person who did wrong and held justice among the kids. He was completely adored by his own people not because he is the son of the of their tribal chief, but rather his behavior and deeds among the kids.

During his coming of age ceremony, his father, the tribal chief of that time gave him an assignment in which he would need to bring back a hunt worthy enough for him to be proclaimed as his successor. Meaning aside from from the mountain boar, goat, and viper, that are commonly hunted down in every kids coming of age ceremony then tamed, he would need something greater or equivalent to the tamed frost wolf that his father was partnered with during his coming of age when he was young.

Based on its documentaries and records, the only beast that is greater or equal to his father's tamed beast is the Glacial bear hidden in one of the many caves along the east coats of the northern continent. With that in mind he then turned the danger of facing the glacial bear into an important goal to tame in his mind and prepare for his journey.

Naturally his journey wasn't smooth, there were ups and downs wherever he went, nevertheless he was still able to face the glacial bear at the east coats of the northern continent and manage to bring it down in order to tame it. The moment he succeeded in accomplishing his goal of the glacial bear, he then proudly returned back to his village camp and gladly announce his will of being his father's successor on his position.

After that his prestige went far and wide as he became well known as the strongest warrior alive on the eastern tribe front. Alongside his glacial bear, he managed to take down dozen of beast nest, stopped a catastrophe and even fended off the invaders from deep below the depths of water during the monster wave. He was really well known and popular to its people.

At the fresh age of 28, his father then passed down the position to him and crowned him as the leader of eastern tribe front and the village chief of their tribe. In his 29 he then met his current wife and married her on that same year as he met her. At the age of 30 his wife then bore his son which will soon become his successor to his position just like what his father did for him. At the age of 41  his father then passed away due to sickness he endured for three years.

However despite his loss, his prestige kept climbing up to the point that much more was expected for his son. After all there is a saying that an apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Thus the expectation they had for his son was an all time high. With a twist of here and there, his son thankfully accomplished what was expected of him by other people despite the pressure he was dosed into. Nevertheless that accomplishment became another prestige to Gundahar's name as a parent.

Unknown to everyone that year when Asagi had made her formal first appearance to the world, an event also occurred at the northern continent in parallel to the events that happened in the middle continent. If Angels had descended unto the earth for the middle continent, then demons begun to ascend from the earth as they begun their operation in this cold northern lands.

That particular night, an entity in the shape of a demon firstly appeared in the western tribe front which then slowly crawled its way to the north then to the east, completely avoiding the southern tribal front of the snow peak mountain. Naturally just like what's to be expected of them, they tried their best to fend off the demon but failed miserably.

His prestige, reputation, and even strength were useless against such demon, they were completely helpless in front of absolute power. From their defeat, they were then given two choices by the demonic entity, One is to aid them in their plans or die together with the rest of his people. Faced with such difficult situation, the once known proud warrior Gundahar then finally bowed down in mercy in order for the demonic entity to spare their lives.

After all for Gundahar, his son and wife was his whole world, he cant afford to even lose them de to his stubbornness. For the sake of his family, he pledge allegiance to the demon, causing the entity itself to laugh evilly and handed them down a type of an orb with an evil aura while reminding them that such an item should only be used when he ordered so.

When he tried to ask for what it is, the demonic entity simply replied that such an item was a type of spawning orb which could mass produce monsters at its activators will. Upon hearing such an information, Gundahar trembled for a bit as he quickly steadied his hand in fear of accidentally breaking the orb. No matter what he couldn't afford to offend the entity now that it has taken hostage of his family's life.

Some time passed he was suddenly given order by some unknown means which left a note that he should wage war with the southern tribe. Left with no choice, he then followed what was said at the note and begun mobilizing the eastern tribes to gather and wage war to the southern tribes at the only place that is connecting both territories.

Back at the present moment, Due to Gundahar's entrance in the battlefield, the once stalemate of a battle that lasted for about a few days had then been broken as the eastern tribes slowly push back the defending southern tribes to the end of the bridge. Mounted on the glacial bear that he had tamed during his childhood years, Gundahar threw away the head of one of the tribal chief of the south off the bridge, as his own warriors raise up a cheer for the victory of their renowned leader of the eastern front.

Due to their loud c, the morale of the eastern warriors grew ever more fervent, while the southern tribe warriors slowly bac k away from the bridge. Even thought there were still surviving leaders on top of the bridge, none of them were strong enough to contend against Gundahar with his boosted army.

With that, more and more eastern warriors charged towards the bridge from the eastern territory as they all wielded their weapons in the air while killing the southern tribal warriors in their left and right. Following the momentum, they soon took down another two balliostic machines of the southern tribes as they also killed their operators, leaving no prisoners on their wake.

Some begged for mercy, some ran away, some fought back, but none of this guys were left alive as they pushed forward towards their goal. For the sake of their own territory, they had no choice but to prey on the target of that entity.

Watching everything from the middle of the bridge, Gundahar's glacial bear let out a snort which caused a little bit of snow to be blown away, as the 2nd tribal chief of the east then approached him not far away.

"Gundahar! The enemy is being pushed back! Just as we expected, as long as we kill a handful of their leaders, their line of command would soon crumble under your might.. If only this was enough to actually appease that demon"

Callan

54 years old

Male

Leader of the 2nd tribe (East)

**********

Callan, the leader of the 2nd tribe in the east is the closest friend he could ever asked that is isn't part of his tribe. He also serves as the uncle of his own son and also the brother of his current wife he had left in  his village.

Among everyone he had acquainted, Callan was far most the only person who knew him behind the mask of his title. Ever since his young adulthood, they have both shared hardships and glory with each other as they slowly progress the lifestyle of their respective territory into a better living environment.

He was also one of the people who were with him when he fought against that demonic entity who have now enslaved their very lives. Even thought they never desired war against the south since a lot of innocent people may die in the process, they have no choice but to compromise for the sake of their loved ones.

Callan was the only person who knew what Gundahar's feeling at this very moment. For Gundahar, he is currently feeling sorry and pity for the southern tribe warriors. He knows that the southern tribe warriors also have family and relatives that they are trying to protect, he also knows that the southern tribes have always aimed for peace for all territory in the snow peak mountain range, however no matter how strong he is, he couldn't avert their destruction. After all he to have something to protect.

For the sake of the people he's trying to protect, the southern tribes must be sacrificed.

"No need to fret over their demise Callan! This war is the result of our weakness in front of absolute power... In order to save our own skin, the southern tribes must be destroyed... no survivors"

"... I understand what you mean... this is for the sake of our own home... we could only lament for them after we finished dealing with every single one of them... I just hope they would be able to forgive us"

After hearing Callan's words in regards to the southern tribes fate, Gundahar then imagined the face of his family right before him as he once more steeled his resolve in fighting in this wrong war. However even thought that was the case for him, the same couldn't be said towards Callan.

Even thought he was the strongest tribal chief in the eastern territory and they were both a tribal chief in their respective tribes, Callan wore a much more heavier responsibility than he carries. In fact in comparison to him, Callan has a lot to loose if he ever died in this war. One can even say the Callan is the key for the development of the eastern territory, thus if he ever died, his death would result to the regression of their own people.

Callan isn't exactly suited for war, he was much more on the side of being an intellectual individual. He was much more suited i9n being always near his territory and improving their daily lives rather than always being drenched in blood. Since his value was much more greater then Gundahar, his death would naturally take a huge toll for the eastern territory.

Taking in this consideration, Gundahar then looked over Callan as he said in excuse.

"Callan! I almost forgot! there is a letter i haven't delivered to my family on my tent's drawer, can you go get it and order a messenger to deliver it to my family?"

"Now? in the middle of this battle? I don't think that's appropriate Gundahar!"

"Well isn't this already a won battle? the enemy is slowly being pushed back and three of their leaders are dead... I'm pretty sure their morale is already an all time low"

"There are many variable to consider in a war Gundahar! the battlefield may change at any moment"

"So what are you implying? do you think i would lose against those southern tribes? Have you forgotten who i am? Trust me my friend! there is nothing to worry in this battlefield... After all there is no one stronger than me is this area"

Unable to  clarify Gundahar's intention, Callan then gruntled for a bit as took in his words for consideration. After all what he said was actually true. There is nothing in this field that could threaten Gundahar's safety. As long as the 1st tribal leader of the south is not present in this area, no one would be able to defeat Gundahar in combat.

Thus with hesitation in his heart, Callan then slowly nodded as he trusted Gundahar's words and went back to the camp.

"Fine! But hear this! Your not allowed to die, do you hear me?"

In front of such concerning tone, Gundahar simply replied with a smile.

"I promise!"

With those words, Callan then returned back to the camp as Gundahar slowly stroke his mount and whispered a few comforting words.

"We just need to fight a little more my friend, you can at least do that right?"

in reply to Gundahar's words the Glacial bear softly roared as he moved his huge body across the battlefield and attacked another close enemy.

Soon after for what seems like a couple of minutes passed, the morale of the southern warriors then begun to change as their cries increased fervently as a spearhead army suddenly pierced through the eastern tribes formation.

After that, more people rushed in the middle of the formation as some tried their hardest to push off some enemies at the side of the bridge. Once more scream echoed as people were falling off the bridge and disappear into the darkness below. Just by those feat alone, everyone then knew that the southern tribes counter had then begun
