Chapter 88: The 30th Southern Tribe

[Snow Peak Mountain Range, 30th Southern Tribe]

Meeting with the leader of the tribe was literally something decided before hand. After Gabriel informed Asagi about the current situation involving the tribes of the mountain, the person herself then allowed his interaction and even ordered him to establish a connection with the leader of the tribe in order for them to schedule a meet.

After all the information about the northern continent they had acquired from the port town was simply only the range of the cold sea and the snowy plains, for them anything related to the deep of the mountains was all a mystery. Thus now that Gabriel had found natives of the mountain, such a chance to interact couldn't be let to pass by. That was supposed to be the case when they arrive at the tribe's camp, however fate says so otherwise.

The moment Gabriel made in appearance at the gate of the camp, Numerous spears, and bows quickly aimed at him as all warriors on the walls and ground showed wariness and hostility to a foreign entity, Even Alaric and Leila was alarmed by such situation.

As if to answer their inquiry, one of the tribal members among the crowd sizing about 6'2 in height then walked forward as he questions Alaric.

"Alaric! What is the meaning of this? Why did you bring outsiders back to our camp? much less bird like human at that?"

"This guy saved us down the mountain Braska! I owe him my life for saving me from a monster I haven't seen before"

Braska

47 years old

Male

Tribal warrior

*********

Apparently the guy that came forth was named Braska, one of the brave warriors of the tribe. Since Gabriel appearance was unusual and the fact that he is a foreigner outside their camp, being wary of danger is a natural thing for the people of the mountain. What's more it is even weirder that one of their own would willingly lead the way to their base, thus the confusion of the warriors stationed on the wall and its gate.

"Monster? what kind of monster?" asked by Braska with a loud voice

"How would I know? It is also my first time seeing it" replied by Alaric

"A monster that is completely unknown to us natives? Impossible! Such a thing doesn't exist"

"That is easy for you to say!"

Upon hearing his determined voice, the guy named Braska faltered for a moment, before he cleared his throat and begun to retort back.

"... Ehem! Nevertheless owing someone and willingly leading them to our base is a different matter altogether! Bringing in a foreign entity is clear violation of the rules of the tribe! Who knew if he could be a spy from other tribes?"

"Stop spouting bullshit Braska! He is not an entity! he is..."

"... an Archangel" hinted by Gabriel

"An archangel!!!!" shouted back by Alaric

"What the hell does that even mean?" asked by Braska

"I don't know! how would i know? he calls himself that, then that must be it!" answered by Alaric

Hearing Alaric's answer with a twitching cheek, Braska then snapped back to reality in order to confirm Alaric's thoughts.

"So why is he here? Why did you led him here?"

"To answer that, he literally just saved my life! Since he is my benefactor and the fact that i cant just simply let anyone find our base have been troubling me... So in order to receive answer for my confusion on what to do, I'm here to consult the chief!"

"So you need the chiefs decision on what to do with him?"

"...Yes..."

"But what if he turned hostile? are you going to protect him since he is your benefactor?"

At that a moment of silence reverberated around the place, until Alaric gave a thought to his answer.

"If that ever happens, i would not hesitate to kill him myself"

When Braska heard Alaric answer, he somehow dwelled on his thoughts for about a few seconds, before ordering everyone to lower their weapons. Naturally Alaric was grateful, thus making it easier for the three of them to enter the camp. However the moment they passed by the gates, Braska then gave a stern warning to Alaric

"Fine! But if he does anything fishy, he's not the only one who needs to suffer... We'll have your head too"

"... I understand"

The moment they entered the camp, Leila them quickly rushes in to the  tent of the other slaves, while Alaric led Gabriel to the main tent currently occupied by6 the leader of the tribe. But before Gabriel could enter, Alaric went inside first as he will inform their leader of the current situation at hand.

Soon after when Alaric exited the tent, he then led Gabriel inside as they met with the de facto chieftain of the tribe. Taking an Indian pose sit to the soft bear hide cushion, Tetra, the chief of the 30th southern tribe then greeted their first guest aside from other tribes.

"Welcome to the 30th southern tribe camp, My name is Tetra the chieftain of this tribe, i held the outmost authority in this place... so foreigner what brings you to our land?"

"Thank you for the introduction, I am Gabriel one of the currently 5 generals  of the Azure Kingdom, leader of the 2nd army, and one of the important figures of the kingdom in the sky"

"....."

"I meant no harm to your people, my only mission was to scout the surface land... it is by mere coincidence that your men and i had met"

"A coincidence? What were you scouting oh Gabriel from unknown land? were you perhaps scouting our land? finding our weaknesses? explain as you might foreigner, once we deem that you are a danger to us, we will not hesitate to kill you"

"... Barbaric as always... My mission was to scout the surface and search for any remnants of the demonic beast roaming the land"

"Demonic beast? Never heard of it"

Hearing the tone of voice from the so called leader of the tribe, Gabriel then deemed that she isn't lying at all. However if that were the case, then the so called natives of the mountain had no idea just how close they were at deaths door for having a demon  occupy a part of the mountain ranges.

If that white demon was allowed to grow freely alongside the demonic beast, then Gabriel was confident to say that they will shift their fangs towards the mountain people after decimating the available port town in the plains. As such the camp might have been in the same situation as the port town that they have encountered if they were somewhat slow on their travels.

"You ignorant surface dwellers"

Upon hearing Gabriel's comment, Tetra then said.

"Based on your tone, it seems like these so called demonic beast are a troublesome opponent"

"Troublesome? It is far beyond that, those demonic beast is dangerous enough to eradicate everyone in this camp... did you know that the port town in the plains were eradicated by those so called demonic beast? that is how dangerous they are"

"If your talking about those plain  dwellers, then your sorely mistaken... we are far different from those weak plain dwellers... we are far stronger than them"

"... Arrogance could lead to downfall, especially if you don't have strength to back it up" said by Gabriel as he turned to look at Tetra who was somewhat confident on their tribes strength

"... Being stronger doesn't always refer to having strength... strength alone couldn't describe one as strong, being strong involves wits, will, tactic, and technique... all of these are aside from strength" replied by Tetra

"So your saying you are capable of this things?" asked by Gabriel

"Of course! that's why I'm a capable leader... as long as i have my wits, I'm confident that i can sustain this camp in this harsh environment"

After stating that, both of them went silent for a moment as the only sound could be heard was the voice of the people outside the tent. Just by listening to the sound outside the vicinity, Gabriel can pretty much sums up the situation of the camp. There were no complaints nor grumbles could be heard outside.

Even with using his rune law of space to heighten his hearing and hear any hidden sound from different sound waves that are mixed in the air, no sound of dissatisfaction could be heard at all. From that Tetra might be actually the person she claims to be. A person who has goals, morals, and views of her own. If she claims that her men could handle the demonic beast despite his warning, then she might believes it so.

With that Gabriel then proceeded to continue the talk between them, but before he could even take the initiative, Tetra herself had already beaten him to it.

"Nevertheless i am grateful for your warning, if it would ease your tension, i will order my men to stay vigilant towards such creatures appearing in the area"

Surprised by how calm she tackles such threat, Gabriel then replied.

"Sure! that would be great"

At that Tetra then raised another issue.

"Aside from that, i believe that your warning is not the only thing you came here right?"

"Indeed! To be exact the queen of the country I'm serving would like to establish a connection towards your camp, After all your camp is the second  contact we have from the natives of the northern continent"

"Northern continent?"

"Yes! your land is called the northern continent of the world, we came from the middle continent beyond the blue horizon"

In that moment curiosity filled Tetra's face as she actually heard such information for the first time.

"So your saying came from the land beyond the horizon? there are actually other people beyond the horizon?"

"There are! you don't know that?"

"I've never left this land since the moment i was born"

"... Figures"

Even thought Tetra was filled with curiosity, she held back her urges as she retuned the topic back to its original track. The topic regarding the other land would be discussed in another time. There is a time and place for such topic, and now is not the time for such discussion.

"To be exact your a representative? your here to talk about connection? are your really eligible to make such connection? Is this how you do it in your country?"

"Nope! not at all!, I'm just informing you of our intent... My queen would arrive at this place at a later time... If you give a positive reply, the talk of connection would be smooth from here"

"I see... I understand! You could inform your leader that she is welcome to make a connection to our camp, after all were not a tyrant"

"... I'll gladly relay your words"

With that Gabriel slowly stood up as he plans to leave the camp in order to inform Asagi with the positive news. But before he could leave the tent, Tetra then quickly ask up a short question.

"By the way a quick question, what are you? you look like human but your have wings as white as snow... are you one of those so called hybrid?"

In response to her question, Gabriel then said.

"I'm an archangel!... a type of rare species"

"I see"

With that questioned answered, Gabriel then proceeded to leave the tent as the coldness of the air smack right to his face the moment he stepped outside. After taking a few breather, he then started heading back to the gates of the camp.

However before he could arrive at the gate, Leila quickly ran up to him and thanked him once more. As they take a few short talks along the way, Gabriel couldn't help but ask Leila a personal question which involves her status. After all she is wearing rag clothes in comparison to the tribal clothes of the people in the camp, If one could describe it she and the other woman who wore the same clothes as him totally stand out from the rest.

"By the way... what are is your position in this camp?"

"Me? well I'm basically a slave"

Hearing such status, he was then suddenly alarmed as he begun to look warily at the people of the camp. But due to Gabriel's sudden shift of atmosphere, Leila quickly realized the misunderstanding as she hurriedly clears it up.

"I'm a female slave that was captured from another camp... the people of this camp saved me and my other slave companions... due to that were currently living as a refugee in this place"

"Is that so? But why don't you head back to your home?"

"... Its not that we don't want to, its just that we don't know how to return... the mountain path is a  strenuous  way... for us who are mostly consist of women, such a path is quite dangerous"

"Mostly consist of women? there are no men?"

"None! us women slaves mostly captured for slave labor or pleasure purposes from our previous camp..."

"... Barbaric peace of sh..."

"What did you say?"

"... Nothing, anyway  where is your hometown?"

"Well based on this place vocabulary, were actually plain dwellers... In particular my hometown is the town by the port"

In that moment a sudden realization dawned on Gabriel as his eyes turned wide in surprise at the hometown of Leila.
