Chapter 66: New Hope
[Ice covered Port Town]
For the nth time, the red demons had literally lost count on how many times they were shocked by their opponents strength. To simplify it all every feat that the opposing side had did, is somewhat astonishing and stupefying at the same time.
To enumerate everything, it all started when the two unidentified people showed their own strength and destructiveness as they defended the whole town with their presence alone. In fact the first time they saw them, they even disregarded their presence and concluded that they might be overrun by the demonic beast in the end.
However never did the red demons expected that such people themselves exude aura comparable to the divine race and was able to last the siege in two nights.
The Divine Race are one of the six oldest races of creatures to emerge onto the world several eons ago when the world was a newly made. They are respected and revered by other races, even worshiped in some cases for their intense magical ability that can elevate members of their species to be on par with a demi-god.
These creatures live for vast amounts of time, bordering on immortal when compared to common folk like Humans, Elves, Demons, Beastfolk, and Dwarves yet they too have an eventual end in the grand scheme of things. Other races that follows the oldest race are just a branch of subcategory due to process of numerous mix and matching of mix breeds.
After that first feat, the next feat then came in as the an army of winged people exuding the aura of the divine race appeared in front of the huge wave meant to swallow the two people protecting the town. In fact realizing two people exuding divine aura was already shocking and alarming enough for the demon's present. Never had they expected that a whole army exuding the same might would appear before them.
After that came in of the third feat as a human mage showed up and exhibit his own power as he decimate a large portion of the demonic beast wave. At that never did the demons expected that such a human could wield such destructive power, for a moment they even almost mistaken such a human as the Grand sorcerer. A title that could only be given to a specific person who becomes the greatest and strongest mage alive in its generation.
Even though the title Sorcerer king and Sages are wielded by people powerful at their own right, the title Grand sorcerer is still one league above such title. In comparison to sorcerer king and sage title which multiple people in a generation could achieve, the title Grand sorcerer can only be wielded by one person in each generation.
As long as the current Grand sorcerer is alive, such a title wouldn't be passed down towards the next generation. But after taking a closer look at such a human standing arrogantly above the town's wall, they then realized that such a human was just comparable to an Archmage which is league below that the aforementioned titles.
Nevertheless despite having their evaluation gone low on such human, that particular human still exude a hint fragment of the blood of the divine race. In other words such a human must be a descendant of numerous mix breeding from the race of old.
Finally the last feat which stood out the most was the sudden outburst of divine power which stems out from the town itself. When a beam of light suddenly shot out from the town, the demons then realized that such a power would have come from a divine artefact or weapon of some kind. Even though such a power was astonishing, they still eventually snapped out of their daze and continued their fight against the angels.
After all the blood feud between the demons and the divine race had gone on since the times' of old. No amount of power could deter their hate for each other. If the demons wanted to get of this situation Scott free, then they had to kill the divine race themselves.
While the battle continues on, Michael then grew worried upon seeing the beam of light come out from a certain location of the town, plus if his hypothesis is right, then most likely their queen was under attack by the demonic force. Even though Asagi had already clarified that that herself in this town is none other than a avatar that stems out form her skill, Michael then couldn't stop worrying for the fact that she might get hurt. After all Asagi is the queen of angels and seeing her killed by some monster and demons, would naturally struck a trauma and mental stress on the kingdom she is ruling.
Even thought she wouldn't die just by having her avatar killed, such an image would still imprint itself to her numerous subjects causing their performance in real life situation to stagnate to ruin. Such is a reason why Kings, Queens, Emperor, and Empress are always advised to stay safe indoors and never personally join any death gratifying battle, after all the moment a ruler is killed, that is the moment that a country would naturally lose due to the lose of morale.
Gritting his teeth, Michael then quickly flew back towards the town as he hurriedly tries to save his queen. unfortunately before he could even get to the wall, former emperor Amos shot a warning shop towards his direction causing Michael's attention to shift towards him.
"What are you doing?" roared Michael
"That should be my question! What the hell are you doing? Didn't your queen gave you a royal order to defeat the demons as fast as you can? Why are you running away now?" roared back by Amos as he crossed his arm above his chest
"I'm not running away! I'm going to aid my queen in fighting the demons that had bypassed you due to your own negligence" retorted Michael
Hearing Michaels words, Leon was then offended to some degree as he felt like someone just called his former emperor a stupid person. But before Leon could talk back, Amos then glared him shut as he replied back towards Michael's words.
"Indeed! I did fail to practically hold all of the approaching demons back, that is all on me.... But that doesn't give you a reason to turn your back in this battle"
"You..." groaned Michael
"How long will you try to pamper her?" asks Amos
"!!!"
"She is a queen is she not? If she is a queen then she must know how to defend her throne, defend her people, defend her kingdom... In other words she must know how to fight! said Amos
"She doesn't need to do that! we can do everything ourselves" replied Michael as he grew irritated
"That's the problem! you cant pamper her like a doll! She's a living being, she has the rights and freedom in her own hands not yours... If your going to spoil her, how will she grow? Are you sure your making her into a independent person? Why do I feel like your just carving her to dependent on her subjects all the time?" roared Amos
"..."
For a moment Michael was speechless, but before he could even reply, Amos had already continued his words.
"Just trust her when she says that she can handle herself"
With that Michael couldn't help but agree towards Amos words as he felt the weight of such words. Due to that Michael then discarded his previous worry and went back to the battlefield.
*********
Meanwhile while the battle outside the town was still going strong, the Lævateinn that Asagi used to decimate the red demon she was currently fighting, then suddenly shattered into pieces as it disappeared from exhausting its divine power. Just like stated such a skill can only be used once more at a later time.
With one red demon out of the way, two red demons were then left behind as they are being dealt with inside the town. But as if indicating her as a bigger threat than the two humans that are protecting her, a red demons who once faced Benkei then dashes towards her in a single flap of its wings as it roared and struck down its red sword.
In that split moment Asagi panicked internally as she tries to erect a barrier in between her and the red demon in order to protect herself from the sword slash. But before she could fully erect her barrier out, Benkei then slid in front of her as he swing his spear sideways and parried back the demons attack.
After that Benkei then changed his handling of his spear as he quickly lift it up and smashes it down toward the red demon in front of him. Unfortunately before his attack could hit its target, the red demon then quickly jumped back as it puts a distance between him and Benkei itself, causing the attack to miss and hit nothing but air.
"Stand back your majesty! Let me handle this guy!" said Benkei as he glanced back towards Asagi
"You cant! You wont be able to kill it without the use of divine attribute" said Asagi
"Is that so? Well we wont know if we don't try right?"
After hearing that Asagi was flabbergasted for a bit as she wanted to retort back to Benkei's words, but before she could even speak out, the person himself had already dashed towards danger.
After dashing towards the red demon, Benkei then thrusted his spear forward, only to force the red demon to dodge sideways from the direction of his thrust. Despite that Benkei didn't give in as he quickly pulled back his pull on his spear as he thrusted it out once more, unfortunately the result was still the same.
Once more Benkei then thrusted his spear at an unimaginable speed as he drilled a fast rapid thrust towards the red demon. However no matter how fast he thrust his spear, the red demon simply dodged his attack as it prepared to counter attack.
In that moment while still in the middle of his thrusting motion, Benkei suddenly changed his spear trajectory as he spun a reverse 360 and slashed horizontally towards the red demon. With this even if the red demon dodged left and right, he would still be able to hit it evenly with a quick horizontal slash from his thrusting motion attack.
Sadly to say the red demon had somehow able to perceive Benkei's intention as he ducked down below just in time to dodged the latter's horizontal slash. Using that opportunity, the red demon then slashed his sword upward with an intent to finish him off in a single exchange.
However just like how the red demon perceived Benkei's movement, the latter was also able to perceive the former's movement too. By taking ahold of the second spear on his back the moment his attack hit nothing but air again, Benkei then slashed downward with his second spear as he directly parries the red demon's sudden upwards slash.
Surprised that a human was able to perceive its intention, the red demon then roared in anger as it enforced a strengthening buff on its arm and blew Benkei away using brute force. But the moment Benkei was blown away from the red demon, Asagi then took this slight chance as she formed a light bow and arrow from her mana and fired off a spell towards the red demon
"Artemis Shot!!!"
In an instant the buffed red demon than have its own head blown to pieces by Asagi's spell, causing its whole body to limp down to the ground and fall. But since only the head was blown away, the rest of its body naturally tried to regenerate the head in a moments notice. However Asagi wouldn't let that happen as he completely vaporized the red demon in her next spell
"Sanctuary!!!"
Surrounding the demon's body in a domain controlled by a divine aura, the body naturally disintegrated into nothingness as the red demon finally died without a second chance of comeback.
With that red demon gone, Benkei and Asagi then aided Irish as they dealt with the last red demon together and leave the rest towards the other people.
Of course the skirmish in the town lasted on for about 5 hours more. The moment the two sides had exhausted each other, a roar was then heard from a location far away, forcing all of the demonic beast and red demons to retreat for the night.
For the first time in their history, there were no casualties on the angels side. On the other hand the demons have suffered about 345 red demons dead and 284,561 demonic beast dead. With such a result the skirmish could then be declared a victory for the Azure kingdom's side.
