Chapter 174: The Bloody Altar
[Outskirts of Tekoa Town, Forest]
Walking towards the direction where Asagi and all the people who can sense such eerie energy, they all then started keeping track of there whereabouts as they literally felt that something might go amiss whenever they miss a slight detail.
Alongside it, Hero Sato and his group begun to chat on the rear side of the formation, as they occasionally look behind them. After all in order to not loos sight of where they are, they w8ll always need to know where they came from.
"Hey! Do you think something will pop up?" Asked by Fujino
"What do you mean?" Replied by Hino who looked at her
"You know, like a Jumpscare!" Said by Fujino
"Jumpscare? Like those things that happens in a horror genre?" Asked by Hino
"Yup" insisted by Fujino
"Well eerie atmosphere defeaning silence, unknown threat, nightime, the things that a horror movie has, actually checks out" said by Takahashi after hearing their talk and decided to join in
"What?!?!? Well you are right it does have that kind of atmosphere, oh God if that were true... who do you think will die first among us?" Asked by Hino
As the three of them started to scare each other out, Sato actually caught their conversation, as he let out a sigh, followed by warning them.
"Hey! Stop scaring yourself! What do you mean horror? It won't be easy for ghost or monsters to kill us any longer... after all we are way stronger than a normal human, meaning no matter how many tricks it use, we would still be alive and kicking"
"Well we do know that Sato, but all we ask that if the monsters in horror movie do came out into this world, who will be saved first?" Asked by Fujino
"Come on! It's not that hard to answer"
After hearing that, Sato then begun to wander as he then answered.
"Well if that's the case then I think you are gonna be the first to die Fujino"
"Huh? Me? Why?" Asked by Fujino
"Well if there is an explanation, then it's all because your slow Fujino, plus your the least durable among us"
"Huh? Well it is true, but come on, you didn't have to embarrass me like that" said by Fujino.
As the Hero and his group were talking to one another, Zaheer on the other hand is talking to Ester, as they followed Asagi. Throughout the journey, Ester seemed a bit more calm and collected, as he slowly blend into their life and almost act as one of them. Due to that he then talked to Zaheer in a calm manner as he somehow wouldn't believe that something was hidden inside the forest.
"Hey! Sorry for the bit of the detour" said by Zaheer
"No worries! After all if nothing do come up in the direction, then practically it's my win" Reid by Ester
"Your right, however you may also be wrong, after all there are many things and a stuff in thos world that goes mugg that surprises in this world they are tryingto prove, as long as events exist, all those creepy thingy would never end" said by Zaheer
"As I said thank you for worrying about me, but I still believe that nothing is actually in this place" said by Ester
As they continued to talk, Asagi together with the rest who sensed that energy, then approached at its sight and somewhat deal with them concurrently. As the foremost leader of the group, she actually held quite a responsibility at such place in accordance to detour.
Not only do their lives were at stake, but even their own memory is challenged freely in such place.
In that moment as they all continued to walk along the path that Asagi passed through, the person himself then slowly felt something was amiss, as she begun to look at her surrounding. Upon seeing her act, the rest of the people among their group, then begun to check their surroundings and try to atleast find the things that were amiss.
As they looked around, Zaheer then suddenly realized something, as he looked around one last time and mutter one word under his breath.
"I see... so that's how it is"
"Huh? What do you mean?" Asked by Ester
"Well simply put, we've been walking in circles, no wonder why we can't reach the intended direction... we've been duped, I'm really ashamed of today"
Hearing his words, all of them begun showing signs of intense focus as they tried their hardest to solve this phenomenon.
"Walking in circles? That's impossible! We've been keeping track of our whereabouts, how did that happen?" Asked by Hino
"There's one possible explanation why it managed to slip through our observation" said by Zaheer
"What?" Asked by hero Sato
"Our senses have been affected, all of our senses" answered by Zaheer
"All senses? Like perfect hypnosis?" Asked by Ban
"Something along that line but different" answered by Zaheer
"Perfect hypnosis" is a term often used in popular culture and self-help literature to describe an ideal or highly effective state of hypnosis. In this context, it implies a state where the subject is deeply relaxed and highly responsive to suggestions from the hypnotist. The rest below are some aspects of perfect hypnosis.
Deep Trance State: The subject reaches a profound level of relaxation and focus, often described as a trance. In this state, they are more open to suggestions and can experience vivid imagery and sensory experiences. High Suggestibility: The subject becomes highly responsive to the hypnotist's suggestions, which can influence their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors both during and after the hypnosis session. Therapeutic Effectiveness: In therapeutic settings, perfect hypnosis can facilitate significant changes in habits, behaviors, and mental states, such as quitting smoking, reducing anxiety, or managing pain. Self-Hypnosis: Perfect hypnosis can also refer to achieving a highly effective state of self-hypnosis, where an individual can guide themselves into a deep trance and provide self-suggestions for personal improvement. Mind-Body Connection: There is often a strong emphasis on the connection between the mind and body, where perfect hypnosis can lead to physical relaxation and relief from stress or tension.
It's important to note that the concept of "perfect hypnosis" is somewhat idealized. The effectiveness of hypnosis can vary greatly between individuals, and not everyone is equally susceptible to being hypnotized. Additionally, the practice of hypnosis should be conducted by trained and ethical professionals, particularly in therapeutic contexts.
With such thing similar bit different at the same time, this g became even more complicated until Asagi mentioned something which caused all of them to turn towards her.
"Its a bounded field"
Bounded Field originates from Buddhism. The Concept that repels people is something much more basic than Magecraft, a fundamental function of the human brain, so Magecraft is not needed for a place to naturally repel people without the need for external, mysterious powers. Bounded Fields are always something that isolates an area from the outside world, but it has come to represent techniques by which a Mages protects his or her body.
Two types of Bounded Fields exist. The first applies a process on terrain, buildings, etc. to create a boundary between inside and outside. The second involves encircling a prepared component and then cutting the space off. The former includes wards that are used to protect a Mages’ mansion or land, designed as defensive measures against other opposing Mage, or security measures. The latter would include uses such as the encircling of a specific ground area using rope woven from hair imbued with Magical Energy, the drawing of magic circles, and so forth.
Now that such space was meant to ward them off no matter how much they try enter the designated area, recognizing it as a bounded field is much more probable than just describing as something like a mysterious phenomenon in the forest.
"Bounded Field, I think I've heard of that before, but I can't seem to put my finger on where" said by hero Sato
"So it's called bounded field eh? I see, looks like I learn new things everyday" muttered by Zaheer
"Bounded Field? What the hell is a bounded field?" Asked by Ester
"Well all I can say that, it is a type of magic which is meant to ward any uninvited guest to reach a designated area, that is the reason why it felt like we were walking in circles despite focusing on going straight"
"So because of it, it also affects all of our senses no matter how sharp they are?" Asked by Zaheer
"Indeed!"
"Then how do we break through the bounded field?" Asked by Hino
"Simple! It's either we use a really powerful weapon to forcefully destroy it, or use an anti magic weapon, an I think I just have the right weapon for it"
"Heavens armory... initiating materialization phase... humanity's masterpiece... weapon synchronization... Summoning Futsuno Mitama!!!"
Under the blinding light, everyone then covered their eyes, as Asagi summoned something from her armory and summoned a weapon she deemed necessary to break through the current bounded field. Soon after when the light died down, a huge sword was presented before Asagi, as she took ahold of it, and all the knowledge of how to wield it, suddenly surged through her mind.
Futsu no Mitama was the Totsuka no Tsurugi wielded by Takemikazuchi (建御雷), the Shinto God of Thunder and Swords, during the events of the Kuni Yuzuri (国譲り) at Izumo. The “Relinquishing of the Country” was when the heavenly gods demanded the earthly deities relinquish rulership of the terrestrial world. According to the Kojiki, the Thunder God sat on the tip of his sword when making the demands
In a later legend, the divine sword was also given to the future Emperor Jimmu by the god Ame-no-Kaguyama during the ruler’s campaign against the monsters and unruly deities of the Kumano region. The legend goes that the sword was dropped into the storehouse of a man named Takakuraji. After retrieving the sword, Takakuraji presented it to Emperor Jimmu, who then used the mythical power of the sword to overcome the toxic fumes expelled by a savage bear.
At first Asagi thought that the sword itself has a type of healing magic due to the legend it foretold regarding to curing the toxic fumes and even how the God of Thunder wields it, however upon touching the sword, she realized that she was greatly mistaken, and had actually realized that it's inner talent is not healing but rather purification. In that term purification means to purify anything that was put of ordinary and in this case the bounded field itself was out of ordinary.
Taking that into account, Asagi felt that this sword would be able to cut through the field by utilizing its talent for purification. So as she inserts her mana unto the sword, bright white light covered the sword, as she slowly lifts it up to shoulder length and posed herself into a stance for battle. After doing the Stance, Asagi then closed her eyes as she focused her thoughts towards her magic sense, as she tried to feel where the bounded field is.
Soon after with her acute senses, her magic sense then touched the surface of an invisible bounded field, as she walked and turned towards its direction and prepared to attack.
In one breath, she them swung the sword Futsu-no-mitama, as the slash left a deep cut into space, as the blade itself literally ripped open the bounded field infront of it. Soon after as if a huge glass was breaking apart, the space in front of her started to show cracks I'm space, as the sound of breaking glass reverberated in the air and the bounded field itself was destroyed by a divine weapon.
Upon seeing the bounded field being destroyed, Asagi left out a huge sigh, as she de materialized the divine sword and felt the burden being lifted off of her shoulders. After all maintaining the appearance of a divine weapon is really taxing to her mana pool. If it weren't for the system she had, she wouldn't be able to control the current of mana it is taking from her just by materializing in this world. This is the reason why often times, Asagi felt quite exhausted when summoning such weapons.
Now that the bounded field was gone, it was now time for them to head over and finally discover what is the truth.
