Chapter 123: The City of Mages Avalon
[City of Avalon, ???]
Located at the academy hall of one of the majestic buildings in the city of avalon, a group of robed men were currently following and listening to the words of another robed man who has a different color of shade on his robe. To be exact the group of brown robed men is currently listening to the white robed bearded man who seemed to teach them something regarding to magic.
"It may have already been taught to you but i will say it again, Magic, sometimes spelled magick, is an ancient practice rooted in rituals, spiritual divinations, and/or cultural lineage—with an intention to invoke, manipulate, or otherwise manifest supernatural forces, beings, or entities in the natural world"
"....."
"It is a categorical yet often ambiguous term which has been used to refer to a wide variety of beliefs and practices, frequently considered separate from both religion and alchemy. Although connotations have varied from positive to negative at times throughout history, magic continues to have an important religious and medicinal role in many cultures today"
In that moment one brown robe woman then raised her hand and asked a question.
"Sir is there any category in magic?"
In response to that, the white robed man then answered honestly.
"Yes there is, expressedly white magic, grey magic and... black magic"
"!!!"
"White magic has traditionally been understood as the use of magic for selfless or helpful purposes, while black magic was used for selfish, harmful or evil purposes. With respect to the left-hand path and right-hand path dichotomy, black magic is the malicious, left hand counterpart of the benevolent white magic. There is no consensus as to what constitutes white, gray or black magic"
"....."
"like many other aspects of occultism, what is termed to be 'black magic' depends very much on who is doing the defining. Gray magic, also called "neutral magic", is magic that is not performed for specifically benevolent reasons, but is also not focused towards completely hostile practices... Now tell me what are the specific magic correlated to white magic black magic, and grey magic?"
Hearing his question, one particular person among the crowd then raised his hand as he answered the question. following him, the others then followed suite as they chained their answers.
"For white magic... i think it is referring to holy magic or divine magic in the realm of the gods"
"Then for black magic, i think it refers to demon ic magic and necromancy, anything that is considered taboo"
"If that's the case then the grey magic might refer to the common once that can be seen in all mages... the fire, water, earth, air, and etc."
Upon hearing their answers, the white robed man then smiled at the group as he then pushed the class for further discussion. However just at the moment he thought of this, he suddenly felt a foreign presence outside the city as he then quickly looked at the far distance on the horizon.
Sensing that this wasn't a simple issue at all, he then dismissed the class early, as he heard the grumble from some of the people following him. After he saw them walk away, the white robed man then turned around on the opposite direction as he walked away and hurried at one of the towers in the city, which peak high up into the sky.
Not long after he entered the tower, he then silently pass by some of the mages in the area as he headed to the main elevate transport of the tower and had himself be transported at the very top floor of the tower itself.
After for what seems like a few minutes of climb, the white robe man then finally reached the top floor as he walked into the hallway and bypass the stationed living armor that stood still in every cubit of the hallway.
Afterwards he then faced a huge door three times his height, as he inserted his mana unto its encryption on the door and begun unlocking the lock that the person inside had put for the people close to him. After for what seems like another minute of complicated puzzle solving, the white robed man finally unlocked the door as he used his own mana to push the heavy door open.
Once the door was open, the white robed man then walked inside as he saw a huge golem walking around the huge dome library carrying books on its hand and letting the living objects return the book of its situated shelf. Behind the golem lays a small desk and a person with long white hair reaching its legs as it carefully crafted another golem on its hand. Such a person was an important figure in the city of avalon and practically the person who controls the city itself
"I greet the supreme sorcerer Albion"
*********
Albion
??? yrs old
Male
Supreme sorcerer of the city of mages, Strongest magic wielder, Oldest sorcerer, Ruler of the city of avalon
*********
Sensing the presence of a guest, Albion who is currently wearing a white long sleeved medieval white shirt and a slim black pants which showed his curves, then looked over his shoulder as he saw the white robed man at the entrance of his room.
"Belfast? What are you standing there? come in! take a seat"
*********
Belfast
73 years old
Male
Archmage, city official, friend of the supreme sorcerer
*********
Even though based on appearance, Belfast looks way older than Albion due to his old age and Albion who literally look like in his middle of twenties, it was already an understanding fact that the latter is way older than the former. To be exact Albion is way older than any elders in the city despite looking like in his mid twenties, there is even a rumor than he is even older than the city itself.
One apparent reason is because Belfast has already seen and befriended Albion ever since he was 5 years old, buts despite the passing of time, Albion doesn't seem to age at all where to the point it reaches that he looks way older than his friend.
Albion's circumstances was the envy of all the residents of the city. The trait of eternal youth, all the people whether they are mages or alchemist covet the eternal youth, many had experimented on themselves, while other had tried different magic in order to extend their life. buts despite all their effort, they still weren't able to copy Albion circumstances of being young for eternity.
The only thing that came close to eternity are the mages who succumb to dark magic and tried to extend their life through either life stealing from the mana stones or through necromancy. But despite the dark magic taking a hold of some people's lives, there were never discrimination among the residents since everyone is seen and treated equal even if their path was diverted elsewhere. Due to that there were never conflict in the city of mages throughout the history. A literal paradise for the people who seek equality and no discrimination.
The moment Belfast took his seat, Albion then controlled two cups from his shelf, as he hovered it in the air and placed at the table in front of Belfast. Afterwards with a swish from his had, Albion then controlled the boiling teapot to be lift from its stove as he placed it at the table, while also turning off his stove with a snap from his finger, as he walked over at the chair opposite of Belfast.
"After all this years...your still proficient on doing that petty trick, why do you waste your talent on such thing?" asked by Belfast as he poured a tea on his cup and warmly accepted it on his lips.
"Its not a waste of time my friend, controlling objects using mana force is also a type of training.... after all by doing such trick, one would need an immense amount of willpower and concentration... something that the current young mages lack" said by Albion
"Times have changed Albion! Time itself can literally change a person, including me.... look at me, i'm already look old enough to be called an elder, you on the other hand is different... time doesn't affect you, so i cant understand why you would waste your time on petty tricks with all of this time for you to use"
"What can i say? if you have so much time in your hand, it is bound that you will get bored after living for so long.... using mana force to control objects is a form of training my self control and also a type of entertainment to keep me sane... Not aging is a terrible thing"
"How can it be terrible?"
"Believe me... it is terrible... the cons of living for so long is that you will outlive all the people you care about... your parents, friends, lovers, and even acquaintances, at some point you would also see various faces of a human throughout the time... envy, rage, greed, lust, and etc. With such life, it is not far off to say that having immortality is a form of a curse itself"
Hearing Albion's words, Belfast then took a moment of time to think through his words as he gave a sigh before putting down his cup.
"I get what your trying to say... anyway i'm here to discuss something quite different and new"
"Well i expected as much considering the land in the south seemed a bit rowdy and boisterous this days"
This time, upon hearing such information, Belfast was shocked for a minute as he was surprised that something major was happening in the south. After all aside form the city of mages at the middle of the northern continent, all side from the north, south, east and west four mountain ranges are occupied by tribal group, and further beyond those mountain land are residential areas for the commoners of this land.
Considering their daily life, there aren't supposed to be major happening that would directly affect their city. But this time Albion said something different. By his words, it was as if the event that happened in the south is so major enough that it could affect their city. If such information is true then the events that happened in the south cannot be ignored.
In that moment he begun piecing everything out towards the unknown energy he had sensed in the south.
"Does that mean that the thing approaching our city in the south is the cause of the events happening in the south? Then we need to prepare to fend them off" said by Belfast as he begun to look at the south direction.
Seeing his friends reaction, Albion then chuckled.
"It is the opposite my friend, in fact we should welcome them... they are the sole reason why the problem in the south has been resolved"
"... What? are you telling me that the events in the south is caused by a different culprit?" asked by Belfast in a confused tone
"Indeed! The people that are getting close to our city is an ally of sort... they are not here to harm us but rather they are seeking for answers"
With that answer, Belfast then calmed down for a few moments, before he suddenly look back at Albion in confusion once more.
"They are looking for answers? How do you know that?" asked by Belfast
In front of such question, Albion then gave out a small laughter as he replied towards Belfast.
"I've got eyes and ears everywhere my friend! there's no event in this cold ice continent that goes without me knowing about it"
"Are you telling me, that you know everything that is happening from the very beginning? is this some kind of magic too?" asked by Belfast as he tries to confirm something.
"Maybe... it could be one of my petty tricks tho"
Hearing his sly answer, Belfast then sigh for a bit as he then stood up and lastly confirmed Albion's decision.
"So we should just warmly welcome them?"
"No! just act normal, let them be the first one to engage on us"
"... Understood"
With that Belfast then left the room as he left Albion sitting on the chair and watched him leave. After Belfast left, Albion then slowly stood up from his chair as he looked over at the window, before he turned his back against it and instead summoned one of the book from his shelf unto his hand with a snap of his fingers.
Looking at the cover of the book, Albion smiled as he reads through the foreign language that is different from this world, as such letters is literally similar to the Shakespearean font used in the plays of the olden times on earth. The book itself tells the story of a myth that belonged to the Greeks, it is the story of a person who flew to close to the sun, the story of Icarus.
No one knows how he was able to acquire such book of another world, but such mystery is something related to Albion's experience as a person who had lived for far too long.
