Chapter 6
(Art by me)
Six knew she shouldn't be so excited about everything, especially when there was a crazy man out to kill them. She couldn't help it though!
It had only been her and Seven, and for the longest time, he was her only friend. But now, Mono was here! He came from the Mainland, so he must know a lot about the place!
Her brown eyes looked over him, noting small scars on his hands, pale colored skin, though it did hold a small bit of color to it. His head was covered by a brown bag, a dark grayish-brown trench coat over his shoulders and arms, sweeping behind him as he walked.
Brown pants, cut off right above his ankles, feet bare like her and Seven. Seriously, how hard was it to find shoes their size?
Zero padded along Six's side, looking like a small, puffy, multi-colored cloud with legs. Seven followed behind her, being the rear of the group to watch out for anything.
The four climbed up the the stairs to the hallway. Once up, Six finally looked around. The wash white walls had a blue tint in the darkness, a small cabinet standing under a deer head on a plack.
The rug under their feet felt matted and old, Zero giving a small sneeze from the dust and dirt that came off from it.
Mono stopped and looked around, before walking down the small hallway with two doors, both of them slightly open. He lead the group to the second door, slipping inside the room.
Six followed, spotting a frozen Mono. Worried, she came over, gently placing her hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, you okay?" she asked. Mono looked pale, the color draining from his hands and neck (and she guessed his face was too, under that paper bag of his).
Mono suddenly didn't look so good, his shoulders tightening and his arm going to his stomach, walking off rather quickly.
"Mono?" Six said, Seven now joining her side. He nudged her arm, pointing up. Six casted her eyes up, taken back at the sights.
It was a tall, wooden diner table, around it, stuffed humans corpses stitched and stapled together. Their eyes were seemingly missing, white stuffing poking out for the loose or torn skin holding it together. A gut wrenching smell came from it; but at this point Six was nose-blind to the smell of rotting flesh and blood.
The bodies were suited in old farm styled clothes, heads awkwardly bent down towards the table. The light above dangled lowly, seeming to shine on how creepy and horrible the sight was.
"Did the Hunter do this?" Six asked, trying to drown out the noise of Mono's vomiting.
"It has to be, it doesn't seem like there are any other people around," Seven replied, eyes glued to the sight.
Zero went over to one of the stuff corpse's leg, sniffing at it. She opened her mouth, taking a bite of the flesh and stuffing, pulling it off and trotted back to Six and Seven. Six bent down, taking the piece from the dog.
She ran her thumb over the tanned skin, feeling the smoothness of the leather. The stuffing was nasty and matted, dried blood dying the once while wool.
"Yeah, it's real. Gross." She dropped the piece of flesh, Zero watching it land of the floor with perked ears.
Mono came back, straightening out the crinkled top of his bag. He panted slightly, holding his hand up to shield his eyes from the gruesome sight.
"Let's hurry it up, please," he said, voice shaky as he tried to recover. The two gave a small nod, Seven looking up towards the table. He jumped up, grabbing the ledge and pulled himself onto the top.
Six went to follow him, but stop as she heard Mono jump up to try and grab a cabinet shelf. He grabbed it, before nearly falling from such little room to pull himself onto.
"Six, come on," Seven whispered from above. The girl in the raincoat looked to him, before glancing back to Mono. Zero whimpered, running her paw on Six's leg.
"Sev, take Zero," she said, picking the puppy up and throw her up towards the boy. Seven caught the fluffy dog, who greeted him with a kiss on the cheek.
Six walked to Mono's side, tugging the end of his trench coat. "Here, let me help you," she said, helping him down from the small ledge.
She got down, cupping her hands together to give him a boost up. Mono gave a small nod.
"Thanks." He gripped her shoulder stepping up into her hands, the two of them able to boost him up to the top of the cabinet.
Once Mono was on the top of it, he reached down, grabbing her out reached hand and pulled her up. She fell beside him, but got to her feet right after. Mono reached out, Six taking his hand again and helped him up to his feet.
"You're welcome," Six replied, dusting her raincoat off. She looked over her shoulder to the the table, seeing Seven staring at them.
"Sev, you good?" She asked, "We got to get going, we can't stare into space all day."
Seven gently shook his head, holding Zero tighter in his arms. "Right, be right there," he said, voice monotone. He situated Zero under one arm, running and jumping onto the ledge of the cabinet the other two were on.
The three of them continued on, dropping down into a room with a level hanging down from the ceiling. Six's eyes followed the line, up to a square above them, a ladder being seen. An attic.
"Sev, gonna need you to give me a boost," she said, coming over, seeing how high the lever was.
Sev mumbled something under his breath, putting Zero down onto the floor. He came to her side, taking the same stance she had done for Mono. She stepped onto his hand, him throwing her up into the air to catching onto the lever.
It wasn't enough, she was barely heavy enough to get the ladder to move. Seven jumped up, gripping onto her leg. The lever was pulled down all the way then, ladder shooting down to greet them. Six lost her grip, the two of them tumbling down onto the carpet below.
Zero let out a yelp, the wood shooting past her side. She whimpered again, coming to Six, licking her face to make sure she was okay. Six pushed the puppy away from her face, spitting and sticking her tongue out.
"Ewww, Zero, you got in my mouth!" Zero let out a small bark, walking over her to Seven, giving him the same treatment. He gave a groan, pushing the small dog back by her head.
She gave a huff at him, turning her flicking her small nub of a tail up at him, walking away with her head held high.
Seven wiped his cheek off with his jacket sleeve, looking over to the ladder. His eyes trailed upward, seeing the dark hole that lead to the attic.
"Well, time to go up I guess. This the right way, Mono?" he asked, getting up and stood at the base of the ladder.
"Yeah, I think so. He has a key up there that goes over to that lock over there," Mono answered, pointing to a door.
Six hadn't noticed the padlock on it before, but definitely saw it now. It looked rusty, but not to the point they could break it. Hearing the sound of footsteps, she turned her head, seeing Seven already climbing up the suspended wooden bars.
She followed after, turning to look at Zero, who sat on the carpet and looked at her.
"Stay,"
"Arf!"
"Good girl."
Six turned back, climbing up the ladder, Mono behind her.
The attic was dark, Seven barely able to see in front of him if it wasn't for the window above them. He could make out shapes of sacks and wooden furniture, cabinets and chairs mostly.
The jacket wearing teen walked over to a suitcase, pushing on it. It didn't budge, too heavy to be moved by himself.
Six and Mono joined him soon after his attempt, the bag wearing refugee joining him. "Here, I can help."
Mono put his hands on the suitcase, pushing it. Seven helped, pushing against it with all his might. Slowly, it moved, the two able to get it too a cabinet where they could climb over.
Six joined them, looking up towards the top of the cabinet. "Mono, how many times have you been here?" she asked.
Mono climbed up, looking down as he reached a hand down to help them. "About two times, but it was mostly me just scouting the place out."
Six took his hand, climbing up. Once at the top, they helped Seven up, Mono flinching slightly from feeling the other's grip.
They got to the other side, Seven spotting the key hanging on a meat hook above them. He followed it, finding a rope in the air that connected a large body bag to a crank.
With not words said, Seven glanced around, before spotting another opening over a cabinet.
He walked off, hearing Six try to talk to Mono about what it was like in the woods. He shook it off, he didn't care. The faster he got them off the mainland, the faster he could say goodbye to Bag Boy.
Why was Six so friendly to him? She was normally cautious about new people, why was she so interested in Mono? A small growl escaped him as he climbed to the top of the cabinet, and landed on the other side.
'He's not from the Maw, maybe she's just curious about what it's like on the mainland,' a part of him said.
'Neither am I, but she never asked me about it.'
Seven remembered only a few moments from when he was home, the most prominent being his brother and his trap. A shiver ran down the boy's back, remembering the snapping jaws of the blood hound, and the wails he made as his brother drove the knife into the skin of his back.
Seven didn't care how many times Tex apologized, he wasn't going to forgive him for that.
He looked around, finding himself in a room with another stuff human, a crank in her hand. Without a second thought, he grabbed it, tugging on it, the arm of the corpse ripping with stuffing leaking from it.
He tugged and tugged, until the arm ripped off completely, making him fall over, the dead limb laying on him. Seven kicked it off him, getting and grabbing the metal crank.
The boy made it too the others, Six smiling brightly and chatting quietly.
"So there's this 'winter' thing coming? That's so cool! What's it like?" Before Mono could answer, he looked over, spotting the other with the crank.
"So that's where you went," he said, coming over to help him. Seven jerked away, fitting the crank into an empty spot at the base, turning it. "Just get on."
Six looked at him with concern, but Seven didn't care at the moment. She walked over, climbing onto the body bag, Seven cranking it higher for her.
She leaped, grabbing onto the hook. The sudden motion made the key launch off, Six quickly tumbling down with it. Mono jumped in, catching the raincoat wearing other before she hit the floor.
"Gotta cha!" he said, helping her down. Six returned with a small smile. "Thanks, Mono."
Seven gave a growl, eyes narrowing as his hands gripped the crank angrily. He let go, walking over to the two. Mono had picked up the key, clipping it onto a look on his trench coat.
"That should be the one. The Hunter should be outside still, so let's get out-"
The sudden sound of Zero's wild barking made the three freeze. A voice, rich with accent, cut through the air.
"Oi, who let you in here, puppy?"

"Mom, let me go after them!" Negative shouted, staring up at the tall woman. Her mother's porcelain mask showed the same blank features, but Negative could feel the angry hazel eyes glaring down at her.
"Negaitve, if you go out there, you will die. I'm not losing another child of mine to the outside world," Veronica snapped.
"I told you, they aren't dead! If they were dead, I would be too!"
Veronica turned away from her. "Negative, the only thing keeping you alive here is me and this ship. If you leave, you and your powers would dissappear."
"Mom-"
"Clover."
Negative froze at the mention of her birth name, a small growl under her breath. Her white eyes glared up at the other, white wisps gently flowing off of them.
"Mom, Six is my sister and counterpart. You can't expect me to do nothing but wait day in and day out for her to come back. I have to make sure she's okay. Didn't you hear her scream?"
"Of course I did, I'm sure everyone on the Maw heard her scream! No matter what though, I can't let you out of here. Now, please, just-"
"Madames. There is someone here who wishes to speak to you," spoke an old, tired, rusty voice.
Negative turned, spotting a sickly old man. Roles of skin over his eyes that always obscure his vision, long, snake like arms, short stumpy legs. The Janitor.
"Roger. I'm sorry, I didn't see you there. I didn't make your headache worse, did I?" asked Veronica.
He shook his head, the sound of his teeth gnashing and his jaw and shoulder popping following after. "No, no, I'm fine. Nothing sleep and cold medicine can't fix. Your visitor is downstairs, he's said it was important."
The two royals looked to one another, confused. 'Who is it?' Negative thought.
The three went down to the greeting place, Veronica brushing off her velvety dress once they came to the door. Negative rested on her shoulder, watching as her mother opened the door.
On the other side stood a tall, skinny man. A hat covered his head, a suit, tie, dress pants barely clung to his body. His neck was bent in an awkward way.
"Hello, Ms. Veronica. I suppose I should introduce myself before I kill that little shadow on your shoulder. I am the Broadcaster."
