Chapter 4
(Art not mine, belongs to Dragon Toons on Tumblr)
Mono looked at the TV in front of him, eyes watching the screen flickering as it created a faint buzzing noise. Took him more then a few hours, but after enough kicking, ramming, and knob and button pushing, he finally got it working.
"Try to get a hold of Veronica, ask her if she sent help, and if needed, tell her you're in a big forest with a crazy hunter after you who isn't afraid at shooting anyone. Got it? Good."
Mono didn't even notice he was making hand motions as he spoke, trench coat dragging behind him slightly.
"Now just get the signal, hold it as long as you-"
Click-click
"Dang it," he muttered, before jumped a the screen, the sound of the Hunter's rifle going off. Diving head first, the TV screen seemed to open, like a portal would do.
In a flash of light, Mono dissappeared. On the other side he was only able to let out a small scream, realizing it was in the air. A metal platform quickly made itself known as he landed on it with a painful sounding 'thud'
He laid there on the ground for a moment, slowly trying to make out the world around him. Damn teleporter fuzziness.
He pushed himself onto his hands and knees, looking around as he hauled himself to his feet. All around him was a broken down city. Windows were broken in tall skyscrapers, wires hung low from all the buildings, buildings missing walls, the air was heavy with the scent of rain and sludge from sewer pipes. Mono covered his nose thought the paper bag on his head.
This was The City.
'The Signal Tower,' Mono thought, quickly looking to see where he was. The tallest building in The City was called The Signal Tower, a tall, glass window building with a large antenna one the top. Mono could see it, and came to the conclusion he was right near the edge of The City and the forest.
"Not a place you wanna be alone..." he mumbled, looking around for his exit. His eyes scanned up to find the TV that dropped him, finding it trapped between two clothes lines above his head.
Mono looked around at the surrounding items to help him. Mostly trash, fallen rubble, and that was it. He gave a small sigh, figuring he may have to climb a wall and hope he didn't fall off trying to get back into the TV screen.
He walked to the wall closest to the dangling TV, hands gripping the slick, metal plating, barely getting his fingers to go into small dips in it.
Mono hauled himself up, about to put his foot in a class crevice, before turning his head towards the forest. The sound of gunfire roared through the air, black birds flying off in flocks to escape whatever produced the sharp, life-or-death noise.
"What did he find?" Mono muttered quietly, getting down from the wall, looking out towards the wooden area.
Again.
And again.
And again.
"Can't be a deer... he's careful with those... he doesn't miss that much either..." he muttered to himself softly for a moment, hand coming up to his paper bag.
A small gasp escaped him, racing to look for a way down. There! It looked steep, but Mono spotted the pile of... actually, he didn't want to know. Whatever it was, it was better then jumping and breaking every bone on impact.
He scaled down as quickly as he could, before hoping and landing on the uncomfortably squishy pile of he hoped was just clothes.
He scrambled down, dusting off his coat as he starting to run off to where the gunshots rang from.

"Run, run!" Six didn't have time to even react probably. It was Seven who shoved her out of the way as the flares from bullets lit the barrel of the gun in front of them.
The shove brought her back to reality, watching the bullet dart by her face with wide eyes. Shock still lingered, but she was able to move.
She ran, trying to lose the man with the gun with the help of the tall grass. Another bullet shell 'wizz'ed by her head, momentarily stumbling from the heat of the gunshot lightly burn her cheek.
"Seven!" Six didn't know where he was, but only hoped he was okay as she ran away. She couldn't look behind her, too scared to see the bullet that would end her. The grass underfoot was slippery, her heart hamming in her chest like a loud, beating drum. It felt like she couldn't breath quick enough as she ran thought the foggy forest, nearly sliding into trees and roots.
She rounded a corner, sliding a bit on slick, wet stone, a bullet bouncing off the ground right in front of her once again. The bulletshell shattered when it hit the rock's edge, pieces flying into her face and eyes.
Six let out a pain filled scream, covering her eyes with her arm, desperately trying to wipe the fragments out. Her breathing was rushed, frankly trying to regain her sight.
A rough hang grabbed the small girl tightly, and with blurred vision Six barely saw her captor's burlap sacked face. She was brought close to his face, his hot, sticky breath blowing in her face.
Six recoiled, the stench foul to the point she wanted to throw up. It smelt of rotten meat and infected tissue, a gut wrenching combination she found herself hating it the moment it hit her nose.
"Ooi, you're gonna be a fine lookin' doll, girly," he said. His voice was slow, accent rich and thick when he spoke. Six struggled in his hand, the grip getting harder to the point Six felt like her organs were being crushed.
"Now, now, girly, I don't want ya skin bruised, takes the value off ya," he murmured lowly, turning his head away, beginning to walk off with the girl in his hand.

'It was over here...' Mono scanned the clearing. This was the place, right? He wasn't far from the beach where he got a hold of Veronica, so if any help did come, they'd most likely come through here.
The clearing was large and spacious, the night sky still twinkling dimly with the faint stars above. The night air was cold, winter approaching quicker then Mono ever intended.
"Hello?" Mono looked around, waiting for an sort of response. After a moment of silence, Mono tried again, "Hellllooo?"
He took a few steps forward, listening intently. The wind blew overhead again, Mono nearly loosing the bag on his head.
Gripping into it so it didn't fly off, he looked up to try and find anything. There, off in the distance was a familiar sight. Lime wings, white fuzzy body, fluttering around in circles as it tried to find any moonlight.
"Mama..." the faint Spanish accent escaped him, walking over to the moth. Gentle as a feather, the Lunar moth landed on his outstretched hand.
"Come to help me out again? I could use it... you heard the gunshots, huh?" He asked, watching the moth gently bring its wings together.
"Yeah, me too. Did you see someone run by?" The Lunar moth fluttered up and off, gliding off into the forest, the boy following after.
The run was long and somewhat tiring, Mono finding himself actually running short of breath when the moth came to a stop. It flew in place, which made the bilingual boy confused.
It was a used path that laid out before him, leaves coating the hardened dirt. A tree was to the side and a log laid out just a bit aways.
"Why are we... oh, I see know."
Far above, there was net trap, leaves and something else stuck in it. It was trashing about, occasionally Mono saw a small hand poke out angrily. The moth flew up and landed on the pulley far above the trench coated wearing boy.
"Hey, are you okay in there?" Mono called, looking up at the trap. It stopped for a moment, a nervous, barely country accented voice rang from above.
"No, not really."
Mono studied the rope above them, the moth still opening and closing its wings as a small that 'hey, this is a possible place to get the guy down!'
"I'll try to get you down, hold on," he said, looking around at the sharp rocks on the ground before him. After finding a sharp, slightly larger rock, he grabbed it, coming and beginning to climb the tree with the pulley on it.
His fingers dug into the bark, pulling himself up rather quickly. "What's your name?" Mono asked, passing by the net trap on his way up.
"Seven Carter," the boy, Seven, answered. Mono hauled himself up onto the branch, the moth greeting him, happily landing on his paper bag.
"Seven, huh?" Mono leaned down, looking at the rope, taking the rock and starting to cut it. "My name's Mono. Mono Starling."
"Wait, Mono--" Before anymore could be said, a sharp yelp rang in the air as the rope was cut and Seven fall onto the hard ground below.
The bag wearing boy looked down, seeing the other. He was around his age (which was around sixteen. Or was he seventeen now?), with brown hair and a blue, slightly ripped jacket and dark gray-ish blue jeans. He didn't wearing any shoes, but Mono thought he saw a broken ankle shackle.
"Sorry, should have warned you a bit better," Mono said, going back to the base of the branch and climbed down the tree. Once at the bottom, Mono turned to face the other boy.
Seven hadn't moved, but he was still breathing. The moth flew down to the blue jacket wearing boy, landing on his nose as its wings fluttered slightly.
"Mama, déjalo ser," Mono said, chuckling a bit as the moth flew up. The beautiful insect looked to him, before flying off. The boy gave a small smile, whispering, "See you again soon."
He turned his attention to the other, reaching down. "Psst, hey," he said, shaking Seven. The unconscious boy let out a groan, stirring a bit from the movement.
"Five more minutes, Six...."
"Not sure who this Six fellow is, but I'm not him, that's for sure," Mono teased.
Seven jumped up immediately. "Six! Where is she, did he get her?" He scrambled to his feet, looking around. "Mono, did you see a man with a rifle walk off?"
Mono could tell by the urgency of Seven's voice something was up. "You're talking about the Hunter. He lives in a shack not that far from here. Was this Six guy taken by him?"
"I think so. I shoved her out of the way and we just ran while he was firing at us. One minute I was running and the next I knew it, I was up in the air. You have to take me to the shack, I have to get her."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa now, hold on. You can't just barge in there, he'll skin you alive, and no I'm not joking. I'm sure he's keeping her alive, don't worry."
"Don't worry? Don't worry? You're joking! Take me to there now!"
"Seven, listen to me. He ain't gonna do anything to her for a bit. Why are you even out here?"
"Cause we were sent to help you. Ms. Veronica told us to go to this place, and now we are, and the first thing that happens is Six getting kidnapped by some crazy hunter!"
Mono had a feeling the boy was here to help him. 'Miss Veronica couldn't have sent someone just a little bit... taller?' He thought, seeing Seven was maybe just half an inch taller then him.
Still, he couldn't be too picky or get on their bad sides.
"Okay, okay, just... stay quiet and stay close."
