Sam groaned softly as her eyes fluttered open, She stared at the baby blue sky above her for a moment. She just sat there while her brain registered how she ended up here, It wasn't long before a similar face came to view. Grim tilted his head while he sat on her chest. Sam sat up and looked around, she was in the middle of a six foot crater in the ground.
Sam could feel all the sore muscles and bruises ache as she climbed her way out of the crater with Grim on her shoulder. She stood and dusted herself off. She hummed as she got a better view of her surroundings; the middle of a forest in god knows where. "So, Just pick any direction?" She questioned, Grim started off north so she followed him.
The sun was setting now, it felt like she was just going further into the forest. "How big is this place!?" She growled in annoyance, she kicked the tree they had passed like six times already. Grim let out a little whine when Sam flopped down against a chair. "I can't go any further. It hurts to move— to breathe. We're just going in circles anyway." Grim nuzzled under her hand in hopes to motivate her. His persistent nuzzling made her sigh.
Gathering the rest of her strength, Sam stood leaning against the tall tree. "Fine; I'm going to get a better look around." A huff came from Grim as Sam climbed up the tree and looked around.
There was a building not to far away, she wouldn't have even noticed it if it weren't for the smoke coming from behind the building. Someone was burning something. Sam climbed back down the tree. "Alright Grim— that way. There's people there." Sam put a smile on to her cautious little buddy who was hesitant before he changed.
Grim was now about the size of a three story building. He laid down to let Sam on so she wouldn't have to walk anymore. Sam's fingers clung to his feathers as he walked in the direction.
The building wasn't very big, the purpose of it was clear when they got up close thanks to the sign on the front that read 'Pub'. "Who puts a bar out here??" Sam questioned as she slid off Grim's back and to the ground, after gesturing to the 'No pets allowed' Sign Grim shrunk and sat near the door waiting. "I'll be back in a minute." She hummed as she walked in.
Even the word 'Ghost town' was a nice way of putting how dead this old looking bar was.
Seeing no one around Sam took it upon herself to reach behind the counter and grab the neck of a bottle— any bottle. When she pulled it into view it was tequila with some worm in the bottom of it. "Ew..." she mumbled to herself softly.
Her vision was obscured when someone put a burlap sack over her head. She didn't have much time to react, it was like second nature when she hit whoever was behind her with the bottle in her hand. They recoiled do to their injury. She pulled the bag off her head. "If this is how you treat your customers no wonder this place is deader then a graveyard!" She exclaimed.
She gripped the neck of the now shattered bottle. Her assailant was a guy in a red flannel and black hair, his now had a gash on his head and tequila all over him. "And your wasted perfectly good booze!" She exclaimed now dropping the bottle and walking over to him, his silence seriously annoyed her.
He opened his mouth to speak when the bell rang signaling another person walked in. A woman with dark— almost black purple hair. She looked at the two before walking pasted them to the bar, after grabbing a towel she threw it to the man.
The silence was actually deafening now, especially to Sam who was used to her loud brother. "Okay can someone explain what's going on? Is it a promotion or something?" She was being sarcastic while she sat down.
"We don't have to explain anything to you, your not welcome here and neither is your kind!" The man hissed through gritted teeth. Sam just raised an eyebrow. "Demons?" She asked, now it was his turn to look at her confused.
"She's not from the kingdoms, you'd know that if you smelled her." The woman cut in the man looked away in embarrassment now. "Kingdoms? Ok now this is getting interesting. Tell me, who's he think I was?" Sam had a little sparkle in her eyes now as she awaited an answer. Her head in her hands like a child. "Werewolf kingdoms, there's four of them. Their not welcome here— It's not his fault for mistaking you. You have the tell-tale signs." The woman said as she gestured to Sam's ears and tail. "However much you may look like one, your scent is unlike them." She added.
Sam nods softly, "So assuming since your talking about scents that your also a werewolf? Possibly on the run." She asked out of curiosity. "None of your business." The man grumbled as he went to the back room. "Correct. Don't mind him he can't smell as well as he should. I'm Anna, and that's Jack." Anna said as she leaned closer to Sam. "Sam. So is he always got a stick up his ass or only when he fails at kidnapping girls?" Anna laughed at her remark.
"Don't be to hard on him he means well." Anna said softly. Sam nods a little. "Can I ask why exactly your don't welcome werewolves here?" She asked while she reached behind the counter for another random bottle.
While they drank Anna explained how they were actually wanted by the three kingdoms. North, South, and West. Apparently Jack is the prince to the Fallen eastern kingdom and that they were supposed to be wed in an arranged marriage until they fled together to here.
Sam looked out the window to see it was Dark outside. Jack walked back through the front door, Grim snuck in and followed behind him. "So is there like a inn around here or a town?" She questioned while Grim climbed onto her shoulder. "Actually." Anna began. "No." Jack cut her off. Anna poured at him until he sighed and finally gave in. "Fine she can stay." Anna cheered. "Yay! Now you have a place to stay."
So it was settled that Sam would stay there until she got back on her feet. Until then she would work at the bar.
