Tyr

Tyr had found great joy in working on new creations upon the islands that he had raised from the sea bottom. Even the work he was doing on the plants he was hoping would take root in Oceanus's depths filled him with a great sense of pride.

So rarely did he turn his eyes to the sky that he did not notice the movements of the Stars in Nyx's Darkness, nor did he see the point that they disappeared.

Instead he focused on making plants unlike any that were found in the rest of his world. Across the ground delicate fronds of ferns could now be found with trees that stretched toward the sky with only palms at the very top. At the base of those palms there were hard round balls covered with a fiber husk and filled with a sweet liquid. Those were secrets he was proud of creating, and took to calling them 'coconuts', a word that truly amused him.

It was when Tyr had finished congratulating himself on the creation of those coconuts, that he noticed the missing stars. There was still the faint silver light in the air as though they were still in their spots in the sky, and yet, there were no silver sparkling spheres. Even more puzzling, far on the horizon he could make out a faint, warm glow. It was brighter than the gentle silver, unlike anything that he had seen in the past. What was happening?

A long moment stretched before him as the light only seemed to grow, before Tyr stepped to the edge of the land. He crouched down, pressing a hand to the top of the water to send a quick pulse of Power through the liquid as a way of letting Oceanus know that he was leaving for a time.

There should be enough plants in the water to keep the strange, small creatures he had seen swimming around fed for quite some time. And if the kelp and weeds that he had created did the same as their family on the land, they would need no more of his Will to spread further through the waters in great multitude.

Tyr took long strides, stepping from island to island in order to finally land upon the main land, his two feet sinking into the sand he had created on the beach in an almost welcoming manner. Until that moment, he had not decided whether he liked the sand he had replaced the rock with on the shore, but it had been a good choice. He looked forward to striding along the shore in a time when he did not feel as though he needed to rush to another location. He made a mental note to walk along the beach as soon as possible.

After that feeling ran through him, Tyr released his physical form to rush over the surface of the land until he could see just what was creating the warm light. Traveling in that manner, it did not take long for him to travel a great distance.

His physical form was only remade when he had neared the edge of the surface, where he judged the warm light was nearing its strongest. If there was anywhere he could discover the source of the light, it would be here.

It was as though Tyr had stepped through a door into an entirely different world than he had ever seen before that moment.

The plants that he had taken such care in creating had come to life in an entirely new way, awash in the warm light. Their leaves were verdant greens with tints of blue and yellow, flowers blossoming in bright purples, blues, yellows and more colors and shades than he had ever thought possible in the dark and twilit world that had existed previously.

Time held no meaning in his mind as he looked at all the wonders that were surrounding him. Was this the sort of awe that went through Nyx when she walked upon his world?

As though his thought of her magically summoned her, Tyr suddenly heard Nyx's bright laughter danced through the air. She appeared a moment later, standing right before him with a smile on her face and excitement in her dark eyes. And yet, under the light, there seemed to be something different.

Instead of the smooth dark color Tyr had grown used to seeing as Nyx's skin, it now was lighter, almost as though the light in the sky was being echoed in her skin tone. And then her physical form seemed to flicker before his eyes.

"Look what we have done for you! I call it daylight," Nyx crooned brightly, not seeming bothered by what he was seeing at all. Perhaps it seemed more serious to him because it was happening before his very eyes. "Do you see all the colors? Your plants have really come alive!"

Tyr smiled both at her enthusiasm as well as the fact that Nyx had done all this work just for him, to make him happy and to highlight the beauty of all the work he had done. The look of surprise that crossed her features confused him for only a moment before he realized that this was the very first time he had ever offered her a smile instead of harsh words.

Instead of commenting on her reaction. Tyr's green eyes ran over Nyx's form and he caught sight of something he had not seen before. It was something he would be able to help make grow.

"Thank you, Nyx. I had never even thought of my work needing light," he thanked her sincerely before taking a step closer. "Within you there is a seed for even more light. Will you let me help it grow within you? It is the least I can do in thanks for this wonderful gift you have given me."

A look of complete surprise came over Nyx's face before she took a step back. It seemed as though she was hesitant to be too near to him, but the reason for the hesitance he did not understand. Did she fear him?

"I have never heard you say such things, Tyr," Nyx said softly, her head tilting in a way that suggested curiosity. And yet, she moved no closer. "Is all well, or are you someone wearing Tyr's mien to trick me into trusting you?"

That question settled directly next to Tyr's heart as though the words were stabbing at his chest with sharp blades. It was an uncomfortable feeling, and he crossed his arms across his chest to ward it away, scowling lightly. "If that is the thanks I get for attempting to show gratitude, I will just return to Oceanus and his fish," he said grumpily, his normal gruffness returning after such a brief moment of happiness.

As soon as his arms crossed, Nyx was already laughing, and had moved far enough forward to place her hand on his bulging muscles. "Forgive me, Tyr," she said, voice sounding sweet now she was no longer speaking such harsh words. "I have been spending much time with the more playful Stars, and they often speak with each other thusly. I truly like when speak such words to me. But what seeds lie within me? I am not made of ground like where your plants grow to the very heights."

"I do not know what would happen, I just know that I sense seeds within your core," Tyr answered. Nyx truly asked too many questions. Why could she just not accept the gift he was offering her and be happy for it? "I feel as though they may result in an even greater light than that which shines upon the ground even now. But I could not say the manner in which it will grow, or even what shape it will take. I only am sure that it would take both our Power to accomplish."

Nyx seemed to contemplate his words only for a moment before gently taking one of his hands and placing it over the smooth surface of her abdomen. "Then make the seeds grow, and we shall see what comes of our Powers melding."

Another smile came to Tyr's face before he closed his eyes to focus his Power into Nyx's core. He was able to feel two seeds, and added his Power to them, pouring more into her core than he had used to grow anything to that point. He only stopped when he felt them begin to grow. "There. They have taken root, and soon, we will be able to see what comes next."

Nyx looked to him with eyes filled with such wonder, he felt as though the breath had been stolen from his lungs. "I can feel them. They will be great Lights when they appear," she crooned, stepping away even as she put a hand over her abdomen. It felt as though she were carrying a precious gift. "But for now, I need to return to the sky. It is not as easy to hold my form in this Daylight. Soon we will meet again, under the light of the Stars, and I will make you show me these 'fish'."

With one last grin, Nyx spun on her heel and disappeared back to her home.
