Polaris

It was an eventful time in the Heavens. The two babes grew like the weeds the farmers of the surface prayed would not plague their fields. Soon enough, they were toddling through the flowers, Helia by Sol's side in the golden flowers of the Western Garden and Endymion at Polaris's side on the Eastern side.

One at a time, the other Stars would come to see the two little ones, gazing with amazement at their strength and energy. With every visit, Polaris watched the twins have the same response. Helia greeted each with a polite smile before returning her attention to the golden flowers, especially once she learned how to make them glow more brightly. Endymion reached his arms to the newcomers, insisting on having all their attention focused on him. If his wishes were not followed, he protested loudly, yelling, shrieking, kicking, and pulling hair.

Endymion could be a holy terror if he was not entertained.

Polaris could only hope that the young Spirit would grow out of this need for constant entertainment, or at least grow more patient about getting the things he wanted. Until then, he devoted himself to keeping the child entertained, and slowly learning the range of his power.

Well, Polaris also hoped that Sol was not having the same sort of troubles when tending to Helia.

The few times he saw the young girl, she had reminded him in many ways of the twin's father, Tyr. She seemed happiest when she was alone, and Sol confessed he would often come across her looking at her hand, making it shine brighter or duller as well as in different colors. When the Star would interrupt what she was doing, she would begin pouting hard enough the golden flowers around her dim their glow as well. Though she had not created those flowers, she had shown an immediate affinity for their glow, and they answered her emotions.

The silver flowers did not seem to respond in the same way to Endymion, a fact that Polaris thanked Nyx for each and every time the child yelled and kicked.

Polaris had left Endymion in the care of Rigel, who had seemed more than willing to watch over the child's play for the time being and even had volunteered to entertain him when the little silver one needed it. He had gotten into the habit to walk to the other end of the gardens to visit Sol and the little Helia often. This way, he would be able to tell Nyx that he had watched over both of the twins when she returned from her rest. Barely had he arrived at Sol's side, greeting his brother with a smile and embrace, when the sound of frantic screams and a calling of his name sounded through the air.

A moment passed where he could only lock eyes with Sol, his concern clearly echoed in his brother's eyes, and then Polaris turned back towards the garden that was his home. The flowers he passed were pushed to the sides as he ran as fast as his feet could carry him toward the screams. Soon, he saw a bright silver light.

The light was brighter than any light he had ever seen.

His heart was pounding in his chest as he came to an obviously panicking Rigel's side, and he saw, there in the spot Nyx had disappeared Endymion lay still, his arm lying by his side at an awkward angle.

"I left him in your care!" Polaris accused, kneeling at the boy's side, but not touching him. He had no knowledge of healing, no matter how many of the humans prayed upon the stars to heal their woes.

"I know! I know, Polaris!" Rigel said even as he fell to his knees at his brother's side. His breath was coming in ragged gasps, unable to even pretend to remain calm in the face of Polaris's anger when it was added to the injured boy that had been his responsibility. "He wanted to play his seeking game, so I turned around for the smallest of times, and then he just....Polaris he started screaming! Immediately I abandoned the game and here he was screaming. And then he started shining, and I just...I don't know what happened!"

Polaris shook his head. He should never have taken his eyes off Endymion. This would never have happened if he had not gone to the other side of the gardens, especially since he had not even managed to see Helia on his short trip.

"Stop, Rigel. We will discuss what exactly happened it a moment. For right now, you speaking is not helping," he said shortly, fighting very hard to keep a tight hold on his emotions before he ended up panicking just like his brother.

Moving with careful deliberateness, Polaris reached out to straighten the crooked arm. The bone shifted with a sickening noise, and then the bright silver light was back, concentrated along the line of the injury. He could almost feel the bone knitting itself back together beneath his hands, and pulled away.

Both Polaris and Rigel watched with no little bit of awe as the glow faded, leaving Endymion looking absolutely unharmed. Although, as soon as they had time to recognize he was healed, the child was blinking his eyes open.

As soon as the brilliant silver eyes were open, Endymion was in Polaris's arms, crying so hard the Star thought he was going to fall apart with the force. The boy did not say a word beyond the sound of his sobs, but that was not odd. In fact, neither of the twins had ever said a word, to anyone.

Polaris cradled the child close, running a hand through the soft silver hair to try and calm him a bit. He was never going to part from Endymion again until he had finished growing and coming fully into his power. The next time he went to visit Sol to check in on Helia, this child was coming along with him.

"I will just, um, well," Rigel started to stammer as he rose to his feet, brushing off his knees as though he had been kneeling in the dirt of the surface. "I draw the line at tears, so I will, uh, just head out then, and um, well, good luck, Polaris."

Polaris could not help but roll his eyes at Rigel's reaction, even if he had not truly expected anything different. "Just head back up to your constellation, Rigel," Polaris said softly, keeping as much of his irritation contained as possible, it would not help Endymion to feel anything other than comforted at the moment. "Pass the word to the others to leave us alone for a time. Give Endymion time to finish healing from this traumatic experience."

Rigel nodded before releasing his form, disappearing back to his place in the sky.

Even with his departure, Endymion did not stop crying.

"There, there, little light. There is no reason to keep on like this, all is well," he said gently, still embracing the small figure close to his chest.

And all would continue to be well just as long as Polaris could manage to keep everything that way.
