Polaris
The surface was everything that Polaris imagined it would be and more. It took a few moments before his eyes had adjusted to being surrounded by so many things at such a close distance. He was used to looking at objects from so far away that the sheer quantity of leaves only a handful of feet from him.
All the greens and browns circling him, not to mention the noises and scents of everything, was truly overwhelming. Maybe all the trouble he felt was just because this was the first time he had been on the ground. And then he felt a powerful presence.
It had not been difficult for him to spot the spirit. After all, he had been peering through great distances to observe everything and trying to feel things over that same distance. But after he had appeared physically, perhaps he should have said nothing for everything seemed to go wrong after he spoke.
The meeting with Tyr was quite possibly the oddest thing that Polaris could ever have imagined, though to be honest, he had not even considered the fact that there was someone like him or Nyx down on the surface making the plants grow. He did not like the short, overly muscled man, there was just something that set him on edge.
And yet, Polaris heard Nyx's words and retreated from his defense of her, for now. Should Tyr return to insulting the Lady of the Night, he would learn to regret his cruelty. But, surprisingly, she had been able to obtain permission for the both of them to wander the land.
That was just one more thing for Polaris to thank her for when they returned to the air and he resumed glowing in the darkness. But those were thoughts for later. Now? Now was his time to explore all the sights he had seen from miles and miles above the ground.
When Tyr had disappeared, Polaris offered Nyx a bright smile, the same glow that had surrounded him in the air shone from him brightly. It clearly showed his excitement, and made it easy for his companion to follow him as he moved over the land.
His steps were quick as he tried to take in absolutely everything from the smallest grain of silt on the ground to the highest stone piled on top of the towering mountains. How could someone as sour as Tyr create such wonders that surrounded them?
And that question lead to a thought that was far more powerful that he just could not contain. He had to ask it.
"Why do you not do something like this on that clear surface you have made in the sky?" Polaris asked Nyx evenly.
Nyx did not answer him immediately, and Polaris did not turn to look at her. Instead, he crouched down to look more closely at a small, delicate looking plant that grew very near the ground. Its leaves were smaller than the rest that he had seen, and there were many of them, making the stem look almost as though it had frills, and at the end, they were larger, arrayed in graceful circle, and colored in a way that he had never seen. He decided to call it yellow.
Cradling the blossom gently, he turned, eyes bright as he offered it to Nyx's sight. "Can you imagine? A field of something like this in the sky, shining?" Polaris asked, giving her a smile full of hope. "We could wander through flowers without needing to come all the way down here. Think of the beauty! Think of how much wonder we could share."
A thrill ran through Polaris as Nyx returned his smile. "I think that is a lovely idea," she agreed, kneeling down at his side. "It will take a great effort, and much time. But with your help, and those of your brothers, I believe we can create our own flowering gardens in our home. Though we will have to make our own flowers. I think you and I can do better than this little plant."
Polaris nodded, holding out his empty hand next to the one holding the small flower. Focusing his power into the palm of the hand, he created a shining silver copy of the tiny blossom.
When the small silver copy was complete, Polaris let out a slow breath. Now that he had made an echo of Tyr's creation, he needed to make it his own, to change it enough that it was an even more beautiful flower than what the other Power had created.
Tilting his head to the side thoughtfully, Polaris focused his Power again, joining the frilly leaves together to create larger, blade like leaves of a very dark silver, and then the petals grew longer, until they dripped over the leaves a very light, shining silver, and the heart of the flower held delicate filaments heavy with pollen to create more. It was a true work of art.
The effort left Polaris feeling lightheaded, drained with the amount of his Power that had gone into making the blossom. A worried noise left Nyx as she caught him around the shoulders to support him before he could collapse to the ground. He offered her a sleepy smile, triumph fighting off exhaustion for the moment.
"I have made you a present, Nyx," Polaris murmured, offering her the shining silver flower. "A blossom for your garden, to cherish for all time."
Then he knew no more, exhaustion dragging him down into unconsciousness.
