Nyx
Slowly, the Stars began to congregate around their fallen brother on Nyx's home surface in the sky. And last to arrive was Nyx herself, gently touching each Star's shoulder as she moved past them. Seeing such a mass of silver glow, dimmed only by the fact they had all taken physical form for the gathering, made her heart feel full of warmth and love. Her Power had brought all this into being.
As she moved closer to Polaris's side, she notice small copies of the flower Polaris had made started to appear on the ground by her feet. The closer she drew to the Star's side, the larger and brighter the petals grew, as though instead of just resting to restore his own energy, Polaris had actually chosen to focus his power on creating the garden he had spoken of for her.
That thought was nearly too much for her to contain. Why would anyone do that for her?
Nyx expected to find Polaris still and pale, laying where she had left him on the blank surface. The spreading blossoms were enough to ruin that image right away, and yet, her heart gave an almost painful throb at the sight that greeted her when she finally made it through the thick mass of Stars.
"Nyx!" Polaris said warmly, a bright, innocent smile spread across his lips. He was no paler than his original shade, and his eyes were bright and alive with what looked like happiness. "I thought you would never return to see the wonder I have been working on for you!"
"I was meeting your brothers!" Nyx laughed, dropping to her knees to be right next to him. Without any other warning, she pulled him into a strong embrace, laughing with happiness. "If I had known you were awake, I would have come to fetch you so that we could travel together once more!"
A ripple of laughter ran through the Stars surrounding them before the large crowd began to break apart into smaller groups, lost in their own chatter. There were enough that all the words broke into just a hum of noise that faded into the background as Nyx turned her complete attention to Polaris. It was that moment she knew just how worried she had been for him, the traveling naught more than a way to distract herself from that feeling.
"That is what Rigel told me you had been doing," Polaris said, the wide smile not fading at all. If she did not know he had been laying so still and drained so recently, she would never have known that he had been in such dire straits at all. "So as they all came to visit me, to see if the words you spoke of me were the truth, I convinced them all to help me to start your gardens. The more that arrived here with me, the stronger we grew, and the more flowers blossomed at our will without us tiring nearly so quickly.
"I knew then this truth. We are stronger together than any of us could ever be alone. Together, we Stars can move the very Heavens themselves."
Those words brought amazement to Nyx's dark eyes. Where had her innocent Polaris gone? He seemed to have left her, leaving this leader behind and fulfilling her own predictions. She missed the naive Star that had stood between her and Tyr so protectively. And yet, this new man was fulfilling the potential she had seen in him at the very beginning.
"Not that we would move the Heavens," Polaris said, reaching out to touch her shoulder gently. Something in her reaction to the strength of his words must have unsettled him. "The Heavens are yours. We wish only to make them beautiful, so you have a fitting home for your beauty, Nyx."
"Having you all here with me is more than I knew to hope for, Polaris," Nyx assured the Star, drawing him back into another strong embrace. She had made such a strong Spirit when he sparked in the sky above. "And seeing just how you have drawn your brothers together around you is all that I hoped you would be able to do when I took you down to the surface with me. If Tyr could only see you all now, like this, using your Power just as he has. I doubt he would find a cause for his normal gruffness."
Polaris huffed at the mention of Tyr, obviously not having discarded his dislike in the time they were apart. "I don't think there is anything in the whole world that could make Tyr not be a grumpy, overly muscled brute," Polaris complained, though the smile was still on his face when he drew back from her embrace.
"But come, let us not talk of him, instead, come revel in the sweet scent of your garden! Lay in the soft carpet and let the light of the flowers caress your skin! Feel the love we hold for you by letting it flow about you!" Polaris exclaimed, jumping to his feet. He held a hand down to her, offering his aid in regaining her feet.
Nyx looked at the offered hand for a moment before her gaze traveled up his arm to his open, trusting face and marveled for a moment at the hair framing his mouth. For all he was opposite of Tyr, she had no doubt that enough strength rested in the Star's arm to pull her not only to her feet but also all the way off the ground and into his arms.
In the moment of contemplation, Polaris moved his hand closer, insisting that she take his offered help. Nyx lifted her face to meet his gaze fully, taking his hand to help lever herself to her feet. As soon as she was fully standing, he launched into quick steps to show her through the wonders of the garden he had helped to create.
It did not take long for Nyx to see the difference in the flowers that spread in a carpet at her feet. She could tell which Star had lent their Power to starting the growth by the color of the glow that came from the petals, and variation began to come in the shape of the petals, the number of the leaves decorating the stem, and the delicateness of the filaments rising from the heart of the blossom.
She was sure that if she brought Tyr to see this wander, the nuances of the subtle color differences would be lost on him. He had concentrated so long on his browns and greens, only starting to make flowers after the towering giants that demanded the attention of everyone looking at his spreading landscapes. And another thought came to mind.
Nyx pulled her hand from Polaris's, sinking down to her knees next to a small blossom with more petals than the others, its color more golden than the silver of the flowers around it, and the heart was a dark, almost black color with none of the dripping filaments. "Polaris, who created this blossom?" she asked softly, eyes fastened on the treasure in her hand.
Without a thought, the Star was on his knees next to her, contemplating the flower nestled in the palm of her hand. "Sol created that blossom and all those that look like it," he answered after a short beat of time. There was no question in his words for he knew each Star and their capabilities without a doubt.
"Bring him to me, and others that have a warm light like this. I will wait for them on the other end of our land to share my thoughts and wishes," Nyx declared, not even considering the fact that Polaris might not wish to follow her wishes.
She kept the flower carefully in her palm as she quickly moved off in the direction of her surface that still lacked the light of any flowers or stars. Her steps were quick as she moved to the very edge to place the warm flower on the ground, willing it to take root and grow tall and strong to reach toward the Darkness where the Stars would one day return.
It did not take long for Polaris to follow her, a handful of Stars including Sol at his side. Nyx brushed her fingertips along the soft petals of the flower that now stood as high as her hip. The knowledge that her encouragement was what had brought about its growth spurt sent a thrill of pride through her veins.
"Thank you for coming to see me," she told them warmly. "I was hoping the lot of you could help me to make this end of the heavens golden, the light filtering down to the surface to help the flowers there grow as well. It will be a fiery warmth to dapple the surface."
The Stars looked at each other for a moment, almost seeming to speak wordlessly between themselves before returning their gazes back to her. "Of course," Sol answered for them all. Just the sound of his voice filled her with a soft contentment that made her long to take a nap beneath his warm rays. "Shall we make flowers similar to the one growing by your feet or like the ones Polaris created on the other edge?"
It was at the mention of Polaris's name that Nyx realized the leader of the Stars had withdrawn, moving back toward the other side of the surface, his footsteps silent here where there was nothing to tread upon yet. He did not appear to be upset by the request she had made to the other Stars she had requested he gather for her. Perhaps he knew there was nothing he could add to help with her vision. She only hoped that was the case for she would never wish to hurt him.
"Let your imagination run free, my Stars," Nyx answered, offering them a proud smile. "I wish to see the beauty of that which you will create for me. And Tyr will look up from above and we will at last chase the frown from his face, replacing it with pride for the beauty of his creations we are revealing with our Light from above."
