Nyx
Watching the sheer joy that passed over Polaris's face and hear it ring in the sound of his voice and laughter, brought a large smile to Nyx's face as well. It was a sheer delight to see him, a being that her power had created, so full of innocence and happiness. A desire to meet the rest of the Stars ran through her, even as she longer to create more from her Power.
Nyx rambled over the fields of grass and under the boughs of the trees, through the burbling brooks and across chill stones, laughing at Polaris's side. As they walked, she listened to him speak of how he had seen all these plants from above and desired to bring even a fraction of their beauty to the heavens.
His words were as fair as the sights surrounding them, and made Nyx's heart beat fast. In her mind's eye she could see a spreading field of the small flower he was offering her in the palm of his hand.
Could it be true? Could they truly bring enough flowers to the air to create their own gardens to enjoy?
She could not pass any doubt onto Polaris, and returned his smile with a grin of her own. "I think that is a lovely idea," she agreed, kneeling down at his side. "It will take a great effort, and much time. But with your help, and those of your brothers, I believe we can create our own flowering gardens in our home. Though we will have to make our own flowers. I think you and I can do better than this little plant."
And that was where Nyx believed the matter would end for the time. But Polaris surprised her by turning his intense gaze back to the flower in his palm. By that point, it was too late for her to stop him from exerting himself too much so far away from their home. Already in his second palm shone his version of the delicate blossom.
She froze, afraid that any distraction would ruin the beauty unfolding in Polaris's hand. The blossom was truly a sight to behold, shining with the same light as his Power, and yet it was something completely its own.
The flower was a creation all his own. It was a representation of the power and imagination he held within himself, and just a glimpse of what Polaris would be capable of when he grew into his Power completely.
"I have made you a present, Nyx," Polaris murmured, offering her the shining silver flower. She could see just how exhausted he was from the effort by the dimming of his eyes. It seemed as though all his light was now in the flower in the palm of his hand instead of being in his eyes and skin. "A blossom for your garden, to cherish for all time."
Nyx barely had time to shift closer to his side before Polaris slumped against her frame, completely drained. It was that moment she learned just how strong of body she was, for she did not even sway under his weight. Instead, after conquering her surprise, she claimed the glowing flower from his hand and tucked it into her hair to protect it from harm. And then she shifted until he was laying upon the spongy moss under the trees, careful to make sure he was not smashing any of the small yellow flowers he had seemed to like so much.
"What was that?" Tyr's voice sounded from behind Nyx suddenly. Yet again, he seemed to have been able to sneak up behind her while she was busy focusing on the Star instead of being alert to the possibility of the land's Spirit coming upon them again.
Nyx looked up at the Spirit she considered a friend, no matter what he said on the matter, her eyes large with both worry and surprise. "Polaris made me a gift and exhausted himself," she answered him shortly, warning him with her tone to leave the Star be, though she did not expressly say it.
"It looks as though he did not know the limit of his Power before starting his project," Tyr observed, moving to crouch next to Nyx, looking at the flower in her hair. Though his words were as rough as always, his voice almost sounded a bit gentle. "Did he create that just for you?"
Nyx offered her friend a small smile before turning her attention back to the Star. Gently, she shifted the man she had managed to create on accident so his head was resting in her lap, and her nimble fingers played with the silken locks of his hair. "He did," she answered fondly. "I believe he wishes to create a garden of them above the surface. Then we would not need to make so far a trip to look at the beauty of your creations."
"Do you not like the landscape that I have created?" Tyr asked, his luminous green eyes showing what looked like concern. And if she was not seeing concern, perhaps there was also a bit of hurt.
"Oh! No! That is not what I meant at all! I just want to make more in the sky so there is a place for my Stars to live and love, with beauty surrounding them," Nyx assured him, reaching a hand out to take one of his and squeeze it firmly.
"I want to find a way to shower the beauty of your home in light so that all the colors of the plants can shine in their own way, to show their own beauty without needing to come be right on top of them to see it. For I am sure that soon, your land will have more living upon it than just yourself. Perhaps they will not be able to see as well as you and I in the darkness that surrounds us all at this time. And for all I love my Darkness, I love your plants, the mountains, the streams, and the light of my stars as well. I want things to grow to be even more than they are now, and in my heart, I believe that we will see all this happen and even more. It will just take time."
That speech was the most any of them had said at a single time for as long as they had existed, and there was a sense of Knowing in Nyx's words. At that moment, they both knew that her words would come true, not that day, nor the next, nor possibly for years to come. But one day, there would be light to shower down on the green leaves and clear waters, and there would be people on the land to admire all they had done.
But first, there was an unconscious Star that needed care, else he would be stuck on the land for quite some time. Nyx was fairly certain that would only result in Tyr's great displeasure.
"Help me get Polaris off the ground," Nyx requested, maneuvering carefully from beneath Polaris's head and lifting his shoulders as she rose to her feet. "I will take him to rest and we will leave you be for now."
Tyr nodded, rising to his feet in the most biddable manner that Nyx had ever seen from him. Rather than comment, she followed suit and together, they managed to get Polaris upright enough to sling his arm around her shoulders. The Spirit of the Land did not back away until he was sure the Lady had the Star balanced properly.
As soon as Tyr had stepped away, Nyx offered him a smile. "An idea has occurred to me, how we can work together in the future to bring light to your land. But for now, I will return to the sky to tend a lovely garden."
And with that, she released her physical form, using her Power to steal away to the heavens, taking Polaris home to rest.
