Nyx
With Tyr to inspire her, Nyx turned her focus on ways that she could grow her own home. Considering that all was nothing there, it was quite the challenge. Slowly, she managed to create a surface. It was not like Tyr's below her, as she found that rock and soil were very hard to create, but it stretched, dark as the rest of her so that it was above all his land. It took more time than she would have guessed, for she could only create a bit at a time, the effort left her exhausted.
When she had enough of a surface that she could walk from one edge of the land below to the other, she lay down in the middle and laughed. She was filled with such a sense of accomplishment there was no other way of expressing her sheer joy. To her immense surprise, two pinpricks of silver appeared in the Nothingness above the surface she had created.
And so Light was introduced into the world, though it was faint at the moment, and neither Nyx nor Tyr knew this, it would only grow to shower them both in the future.
At the sight of the new things in her darkness, Nyx rolled to her feet, and after just a moment of hoping Tyr would not shoo her away upon sight as he had the last time, she jumped to the land. She tried to appear as before, though now, she found that two small specks of silver had appeared upon the darkness of her body, one on the back of each hand she had created, and around her form, a dark mass of hair swirled, falling all the way to her feet. As she moved, the feeling of the hair upon her skin was pleasant, almost like when she had felt the water flow over her feet on her first visit to the land.
It had been so long since she had been on the surface, that everything looked much different than she remembered it being. There were taller plants now, with rough, tough brown coverings that that reached up toward the darkness. The two silver specks were even more obvious from down here, her surface not blocking the sight of them in the slightest. The feeling of accomplishment ran through her again, resulting in another bout of triumphant laughter, and three more specks appearing, both in the spreading darkness of the sky as well as on her physical body. She decided that perhaps the specks were appearing on her as a reflection of what she was creating in her Nothingness, and thought this was not a bad thing, but instead, it was just another way that she was perfect in her beauty.
This time her exploration of the surface was shorter, or at least it seemed that way, as she moved more quickly on her own two feet though she still looked at the world with a sense of awe an wonder. Tyr had created all of this by himself. A grand achievement indeed.
"You have returned," Tyr's voice sounded from behind her. She was beginning to believe he did it on purpose, just to see how much he could startle her. But how could one that had made so many wanders and done so much sound as grumpy as he still did? At what point would he be happy? Or was he just as tired as she was after working so hard on her surface in the Nothingness? "Are you hear to start trouble, or just say one thing and run off again?"
"I came to look with joy and wonder upon this land you are making, for I have seen it take shape and grow as I looked down from above," she explained, spreading her arms wide and spinning in a circle fast enough that the long locks of her hair swirled around her playfully. "I have worked day and night to create a home in my Nothing, but it is no where as impressive as the tall spreading heights of your plants or the towering pillars of stone that you have made rise above. I almost hesitate to ask if you wish to see what I have done, but here I am, asking anyway."
"You have made something up in the sky?" Tyr asked, almost sounding suspicious. She supposed that suspicion was the correct sort of response, after all, nothing she had done before the silver specks appeared was even visible from the surface, and with all the work he had done down here, he may not have even noticed those things anyway.
"I have! There is a surface that stretches from one edge of your land to the other so I can walk above all you have made an admire the beauty of the green things," she explained, smiling with the pride she felt at her accomplishment. His land had appeared on its own, she had had to create all of her own. "Do you wish the chance to see all you have done from above? It is quite the sight to behold."
"There is nothing in the sky!" he declared obstinately, crossing his muscular arms across his chest.
"That is the beauty of what I have done! The surface is there, but it cannot be seen! Then I do not have to peer through anything to be able to see your wonders! Instead I am moving through my darkness as though I were flying through what you call the sky," she explained before clapping her hands together and laughing again. As satisfying as knowing her accomplishment for herself, it felt even better to share it with the other.
That sense of accomplishment drained away when Nyx saw Tyr's brilliant green eyes narrow at her. "What is that?" he asked, voice holding a note of incredulity, almost as though he was not believing something that had happened right before his very eyes.
Nyx blinked looking toward where he was looking, and grinned at the sight of more silver specks on her skin. "Oh. I don't know yet. I laughed twice earlier and five of them appeared in the darkness and when I came down here, they were on my body. More must have appeared when I laughed again. It is fantastic is it not? They brighten the darkness!"
"They are different," Tyr replied almost begrudgingly. "I have not seen anything that color before. Perhaps in the future we can create together. Now, I have much to do."
This time, Tyr was the first to turn from Nyx, his hands beginning to glow green as he returned to his growing things, leaving her to smile behind him. They had spoken longer, and he had shown her more than just disgruntlement. And though he had not agreed to go with her to see what she had created, it sounded as though he would someday be willing to work with her, to make something new and different together.
Another bright laugh left Nyx as she released her physical form to return back to her surface above the land, now lit by the silvery light of ten small lights.
