Reality
Amy woke before Mark, the sun still down and the sky dark. Only this time, it looked more...beautiful, not at all threatening like the night before.
I guess the dark isn't that bad, Amy mused silently as she got out of bed, making sure to be quiet so she didn't wake Mark up. He started moving around more, curling up in a tighter ball as he rolled over constantly, his breathing quick and shallow.
Amy wasn't sure if that was normal sleep behavior for humans, so she left him alone as she tried to find something for her to do. There wasn't any good for breakfast and she had no idea how the tv worked. She ended up going through Mark's duffel bag, finding clothes, some food, and what looked like a miniature version of a tv with a red case
She pressed the button on the top and nearly dropped the device when the screen lit up, a picture of Mark with two other people. The one on his left was skinny and slightly taller than Mark with light brown hair and hazel eyes. The other man was closer to Mark's height and was larger, his hair black like Mark's with his face covered in black hair and eyes a brown color. All three of them were smiling like they didn't have a care in the world.
"They must be the friends Mark mentioned before." Amy thought aloud. She glanced over at Mark to see if he was still asleep, only to find him visibly shaking and muttering incoherently under his breath with his eyes tightly closed. Now she was certain that wasn't normal for humans. She tried shaking his shoulder and saying his name, but his eyes remained shut.
Panicking, she found a water bottle in Mark's duffel and dumped the contents on him. He instantly bolted awake to a sitting position with a gasp of surprise, breathing heavily as he looked around.
"What was that for?" Mark rubbed his bare arms, groggily managing to move the blankets aside to get out of bed.
He suddenly paused for a moment, looking back at Amy.
"I thought I was on the floor." Mark shook his head.
"There was room for the both of us, it didn't make sense for you to sleep on the floor." Amy shrugged.
"Oh god I slept with a complete stranger." Mark groaned, rubbing his face with his hands in exasperation.
"I'm not a stranger, you know my name." Amy stated.
"What am I even doing? Driving someone I barely know around, taking them out for coffee and allowing them to stay in a room with me." Mark continued, grabbing his glasses before pacing back and forth across the floor.
"I really appreciate it if that's any consolation." Amy chimed in helpfully.
"I need you to go." Mark ignored her comment, pointing at the door.
"But-"
"Look, you seem really nice, but I need to figure things out myself. I need to get a new house, find someone to help me pay for it." Mark interrupted.
"Those people on your device in your bag, those were your previous friends, right?" Amy asked.
"If you mean on my phone, yeah. Also, why did you go through my stuff?" Mark glared accusingly at Amy.
"I wanted to learn more about you so I can help-"
"Stop saying that you can help me, you can't! You don't have a home, money, vehicle, job, or anything! Now please leave." Mark demanded quietly.
"I always keep my promises." Amy assured Mark before doing as he wanted. She ate a quick breakfast of something called "waffles" with coffee before leaving the hotel, walking down the sidewalk of wherever she was. The buildings around her were huge, the streets crowded with cars and people talking on their phones.
"Excuse me, where am I?" She quickly jogged to catch up with a person that was walking by her. They ignored her and kept walking forward.
"Earth isn't what I thought it would be." Amy sighed sadly. But she would find some way to help Mark, she was sure of it.
