Chapter 8
TW: Mentions of abuse
3rd Person P.O.V
The next day, after school, Chandler kept her promise to Jasmine and headed straight for Veronica's house. She parked her Porsche and got out, closing the door and locking the car before walking up to the front door of Veronica's house and knocking. She only had to wait a few minutes before Veronica answered the door.
"Heather, what are you doing here?" Veronica asked.
"We need to talk. There's a few things you need to hear. It's about Jasmine." Chandler answered.
"If she sent you here to ask me to get back together with her, then save it. I'm not doing that." Veronica said.
"Jasmine didn't send me here to say anything. I only came to fill you in on parts of the story Jasmine hasn't told you yet. The reason why she really acts the way she does." Chandler told her. Veronica thought about that for a while, since she had guessed there were some things Jasmine hadn't told her, but she just hadn't wanted to pry into it since she knew Jasmine hated talking about her past. She stepped back to let Chandler inside, before closing the door behind her. The two girls went to sit in the living room.
"Jasmine told me about the breakup, and it's affecting her more than you think. I'm not asking you to get back with her, since you have your reasons not to trust her right now. All I'm asking is for you to be her friend again. What you don't know is that Bud has abused Jasmine in every way possible since she was nine, beginning after her mother died. Jason found out and would take the brunt of it to protect his sister, even going as far as sleeping in her room to keep her safe. When she thought Jason died when they were fourteen, Jasmine broke up with me to protect me because she didn't want to see me dead." Chandler explained.
"When did she tell you all of this?" Veronica asked.
"She didn't. Jason did. The three of us have known each other since the age of three, thanks to our mothers being best friends. Jason was the one who told me everything, since Jasmine was too scared I wouldn't want to be with her once I found out." Chandler answered, causing the realisation to dawn on Veronica.
"So, when I broke up with her, and also stopped being friends with her, she felt alone." Veronica said.
"I also know the truth about Kurt and Ram. Those two idiots would never kill themselves. However, I never said anything because I think they deserved it. Three years ago, before Jasmine was forced to move by her father, they did to her what they did to you. So when she heard them spreading those rumours about you, it sent her back to that mind space. Her methods are unorthodox sometimes, but Jasmine is very good at protecting the people she loves. It's why she blames herself for what happened to her brother. Bud has messed with her head for years, the same as he did with her mother, Evelyn. What Bud didn't count on was Jason protecting his sister, which is why Jason almost died that day." Chandler explained, leaving Veronica shocked at everything that had just been revealed.
"So that's why she was so mad at them. But why didn't she tell me? I would've understood better then." Veronica asked.
"Bud ingrained it into the twins not to say anything. That's why Jasmine has always had some difficulty expressing emotions, aside from more extreme ones like anger." Chandler answered. That was when something occurred to Veronica.
"You said, "almost died". But Jasmine told me that Jason died." Veronica said.
"Come with me. There's something I need to show you." Chandler told her. Veronica was confused, but followed Chandler out of the house and to her Porsche. Both girls got into the car, before Chandler drove them to the hospital. Once they got there, Veronica got out of the car before following Chandler into the building. The brunette was highly confused about the whole thing, but stayed quiet as she and Chandler walked through various hallways, before finally stopping outside one of the rooms.
"After you." Chandler said, gesturing for Veronica to enter. Veronica raised an eyebrow, but did so anyway, only to get a shock when she saw the room's occupant. She immediately recognised him as the boy in Jasmine's photo.
"Is that?" Veronica started to ask.
"Jason Dean, Jasmine's twin brother. He was also the first of the two to go by the nickname JD, until Jasmine started using it to honour his memory after that fateful day." Chandler confirmed.
"So he's been alive all this time?" Veronica asked.
"Yes. For the past three years, he's been in a coma. There were a few times when doctors considered switching off his life support, but my parents and I always argued against it. Since Bud had already left town and taken Jasmine with him shortly after the incident, my parents were given medical power of attorney. This is because the twins' mother named my parents medical power of attorney for her and the twins, meaning they were the ones who would make all the decisions regarding medical care." Chandler explained.
"And you never told Jasmine that he was still alive, because she wouldn't have believed you because she thought she saw him die." Veronica finished, since the reasoning made sense.
"Exactly that. I'm really hoping he does wake up some day. It kills me inside to see Jasmine hurt, even though I don't show it." Chandler said. This made Veronica come to a realisation that had been niggling at her for a while now, but this had just confirmed it for her.
"You still have feelings for Jasmine." Veronica said, and it wasn't a question.
"I think we both know I'd be lying if I said that I didn't. Admittedly, that's only part of it." Chandler said.
"What do you mean?" Veronica asked.
"You're going to think I'm crazy, but I might as well go ahead and admit it anyway. I've also had feelings for you since the end of junior year. But obviously, you and Jasmine got together earlier this year, so I stayed back and stayed silent." Chandler answered, avoiding looking at Veronica. It took a few minutes for Veronica to process what Chandler had told her. But once it did sink in, the brunette could feel herself blushing. Perhaps her own feelings were not unrequited after all, except this had now created a bit of a situation.
"Then we appear to be in a similar situation. But I know neither of us will want to hurt Jasmine through this. I also don't want to have to make her choose between us." Veronica said.
"I agree. All we can really do is talk to Jasmine about it, and hopefully get out of this situation without making anything awkward between the three of us." Chandler said, earning a nod of agreement from Veronica.
"Anyway, I'm going to go get something to drink. You want anything?" Veronica asked.
"No, thank you. I'm alright." Chandler answered. Veronica left the room and went to the little shop she had seen when they'd entered the hospital. Chandler remained where she was, thinking about the conversation that had just taken place.
"It's nice to know that my sister still has people who care for her." A male voice suddenly spoke, causing Chandler to jump out of her seat in surprise. She turned around, and to her shock, saw that Jason was awake.
"You prat! How long have you been awake?!" Chandler questioned.
"Long enough to overhear your conversation." Jason answered. Chandler just gave a nod, since she wasn't really sure how else to react.
"Well, that's definitely not awkward." Chandler remarked.
"All I can say is that it's unlikely my sister will want to have to choose between the two of you. It may well end up that she wants to be with both of you. And you said so yourself that you have feelings for, Veronica, was it. And from what I heard, she seems to return those feelings." Jason said.
"Yeah well, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Since we're currently trying to get over a situation right now. It's probably better to wait until Veronica comes back." Chandler said. But fate seemed to be against the red-clad Heather because Veronica walked back into the room only a couple of minutes later. Veronica froze when she saw that Jason was awake, since she had only been gone a few minutes.
"I'm so confused." Veronica said.
"Long story short, turns out this ass was awake and listening to most of our earlier conversation." Chandler told her.
"Oh joy." Veronica muttered, not really looking forward to the fact she was likely going to have to tell Jason the reason she had broken up with Jasmine.
"So, you mentioned a situation. Enlighten me." Jason said. Reluctantly, Veronica explained what had happened that had caused her and Jasmine to break up, and how Chandler had ended up revealing things she hadn't previously known before, and ending her explanation with them coming to the hospital.
"So, my sister is not in a very good mind space right now, and you aren't quite sure what's going to happen next before you can try reconciling with her." Jason summed up.
"Yeah, pretty much. I guess I can try talking to her at school tomorrow, but I'm not so sure she'll want to talk to me." Veronica said.
"Well, all you can do is try. Jasmine isn't unreasonable, so I think she'll listen to you." Jason said. Veronica gave a nod, thinking about this. She knew it was likely to be more than a little challenging, but like Jason had just said. All she could do was try.
A/N: Hey guys. Just wanna let you know that this will eventually be a polyamory relationship between Jasmine, Veronica and Chandler, as hinted in the above chapter. This is my first time writing a polyamory relationship in a story, so please be nice.
