"Dear Diary,"

Dewott Ura stepped up to the pathway leading to Westerburg High School. She wore a long black skirt, blue sweater, and purple scarf. She had blue glasses on making her brown eyes seem bigger and her brown hair was in the scarf so you couldn't see much of it. "I believe I'm a good person. You know, I believe there's good in everyone. But here we are! First day of senior year! And uh... I look around at these kids I've known all my life and I ask myself- 'what happened'?"

Dewott walked down the path, hearing all the kids laugh then suddenly start to shout. "Freak! Slut! Burnout! Bug eyes! Poser! Lard-ass!" Dewott sighed and started to sing. "We were so tiny, happy and shiny. Playing tag and getting chased."

"Freak! Slut! Loser! Shortbus!" "Singing and clapping, laughing and napping. Baking cookies, eating paste." Dewott sighed.

"Bull-dyke! Stuck up! Hunchback!" "Then we got bigger, that was the trigger. Like the Huns invading Rome." Dewott tripped over someone and fell. "Oh, sorry." She got up and hurried away. "Welcome to my school, this ain't no high school: This is the Thunderdome. Hold your breath and count the days, we're graduating soon."

"White trash!" "College will be paradise if I'm not dead by June!" Dewott moved around a group of kids. "But I know, I know. Life can be beautiful. I pray, I pray. For a better way. If we changed back then, we could change again. We can be beautiful..." "OW!" "Just not today. Hey are you ok?" Dewott went over to the boy who was pushed down. "Get away, nerd!" He got up and walked past. "Oh, okay."

"Freak! Slut! Cripple! Homo! Homo! Homo!" "Things will get better soon as my letter comes from Harvard, Duke, or Brown. Wake from this coma, take my diploma, then I can blow this town. Dream of ivy-covered walls and smoky French cafe's." Dewott closed her eyes and clasped her hands together, ending up bumping into a familiar jock. "Watch it!" He growled as she quickly moved away.

Dewott grabbed a tray, heading to get lunch, since the periods before she spent singing and daydreaming, the kids yelling in the hallways between classes. "Fight the urge to strike a match and set this dump ablaze!" Suddenly the jock from before came over and slapped the tray out of her hands while walking by. "Ooooops." Dewott frowned and looked at him. "Jay Smithson. Third year as linebacker and eighth year of smacking lunch trays and being a huge dick."

Jay turned around and walked up to her. He had short blonde hair, jade green eyes, tan skin from being outside so much, freckles, a striped shirt, red letter jacket, jeans, and black converses. "What did you say to me, skank?" "Aah, nothing!" Dewott held her hands up in surrender. Jay did the motion saying he had his eyes on her before turning and walking away. Dewott sighed and continued singing, the students joining in.

"But I know, I know, life can be beautiful. I pray, I pray, for a better way. We were kind before, we can be kind once more. We can be beautiful..." Someone tapped her shoulder and she jumped. "Agh! ... Hey Violet." Dewott smiled. "Hey."

"Violet Frost. My best friend since diapers." Dewott smiled. Violet had sky blue hair with the bottom half purple, purple eyes, a light blue heart under her right eye, a light blue and purple sweater, jeans, and purple boots. "We on for movie night?" Violet asked. "Yeah, you're on Jiffy Pop detail." "I rented "The Princess Bride"." "Ho-ho-ho, again? Wait don't you have it memorized by now?" Dewott giggled softly. "What can I say, I'm a sucker for a happy ending."
Violet gave her a closed eye smile, a pink tint on her cheeks.

"Violet Froze! Wide load!" Another jock hopped over and smacked the lunch tray out of Violet's hands, causing her to jump. "Hoooonk! Hahaaa!" "Zach Reese, quarterback. He's the smartest guy on the football team. Which is kind of like being the tallest dwarf." Zach had chin length blonde hair, blue eyes, tan skin, a white shirt, red letter jacket, jeans, and black sneakers. "Haha! Alriiight!" Zach laughed, fist bumping Jay.

"Hey! Pick that up! Right now!" Dewott called. "I'm sorry, are you actually talking to me?" Zach asked, crossing his arms. "Yes, I am. I wanna know what gives you the right to pick on my friend. You're a high school has-been waiting to happen. A future gas station attendant." Dewott crossed her arms. "... You have a zit right there." Zach said loudly, putting his pointer finger on her forehead before turning and laughing with everyone else who heard, except Violet.

"Dear Diary. Why..." Dewott sang. "Why do they hate me?" A boy stepped up. "Why don't I fight back?" A girl stepped up. "Why do I act like such a creep?" Zach stepped up. "Why..." Dewott sang. "Why won't he date me?" Violet stepped up. "Why did I hit him?" Jay stepped up. "Why do I cry myself to sleep?" Two girls and the teacher sang. "Why..." Dewott sang. "Somebody hug me! Somebody fix me! Somebody save me!" The students sang. Dewott joined in. "Send me a sign, God! Give me some hope, here! Something to live for!"

Suddenly the doors opened and everyone fell silent as three people walked in. "Ahh! Willow, Chris, and Amelia!" The students sang. "And then there's the Socs. They float above it all." "I love Willow, Chris, and Amelia." "Willow Hide, head cheerleader. Her dad is loaded- he sells engagement rings." Willow stepped up. She had long black hair, dark blue eyes, a yellow jacket over a darker yellow shirt with a black belt around her waist, a mid thigh yellow skirt, knee high yellow socks and yellow heels.

"I hate Willow, Chris, and Amelia." "Amelia Jackson, runs the yearbook. No discernible personality but her mom did pay for implants." Amelia stepped up. She had long black hair, sea green eyes, a mint green jacket over a white shirt, black skirt, green knee high socks, and black heels.

"I want Willow, Chris, and Amelia." "Chris Uragirimono, the almighty. He is a mythic bitch." Chris stepped up. He had shoulder length spiky brown hair, blue-green eyes, a red jacket over a white shirt, plaid pants, knee high black socks with red and white diamonds, and red sneakers. A red scrunchie was on his wrist.

"I need Willow, Chris..." "They're solid Teflon. Never bothered, never harassed. I would give anything to be like that." Dewott sighed, Violet agreeing. "Mmmm..." The students hummed. "I'd like to be their boyfriend!" A boy spoke up. "That would be beautiful... Mmmm..." The students sang. "If I sat at their table, guys would notice me!" A girl exclaimed. "So beautiful... Ooooh..." "I'd like them to be nicer." Violet said. "That would be beautiful... Ooooh..." "I'd like to kidnap a Soc and photograph them naked in an abandoned warehouse and leave them tied up for the rats." A boy said just as the bell rang. Everyone went to class, except the three popular kids. Dewott went to class only to get permission to go to the bathroom.

Amelia was in a stall throwing up while Chris checked himself out in the mirror. "Grow up, Amelia. Bulimia is so '87." "Maybe you should see a doctor, Amelia." Willow said. "Yeah, Willow. Maybe I should." Amelia muttered. "Ah, Willow and Chris." Ms. Izumi said as she walked into the bathroom, Dewott quickly writing in her diary. She had long lavender hair tied up in pig tails that go down almost to the floor, blue eyes, tan skin, a red shirt under a blue sweater jacket, a long black skirt, and black shoes. Amelia threw up again. "... and Amelia. Perhaps you didn't hear the bell over all the vomiting. You're late for class."

"Amelia wasn't feeling well. We're helping her." Chris said, turning to Ms. Izumi. "Not without a hall pass, you're not. Weeks detention." Ms. Izumi crossed her arms. "Um, actually, Ms. Izumi, all four of us are out on a hall pass. Yearbook committee." Dewott said, handing a fake hall pass she made to the teacher. "... I see you're all listed. Hurry up and get to where you're going." Ms. Izumi said, handing back the paper before heading out.

Chris snatched the hall pass out of her hands and looked at it. "This is an excellent forgery." He looked up at her. "Who are you?" "Uh... Dewott Ura. I crave a boon." Dewott said, holding out her hand but retracting it quickly. "What boon?" Chris stood up straight and crossed his arms. "Um. Let me sit at your table, at lunch. Just once. No talking necessary. If people think that you guys tolerate me then they'll leave me alone..."

The three laughed at that request, causing Dewott to become nervous. "Before you guys answer, I also do report cards, permission slips, and absence notes." "What about prescriptions?" Amelia spoke up. "Shut up, Amelia." Chris said, annoyance in his voice. "Sorry, Chris." Amelia looked down. Chris walked behind Dewott and spun her around. "For a greasy little nobody, you do have good bone structure." He said, lifting her chin with his fingertips.

Willow went over and put her hands on her cheeks. "And a symmetrical face. If I took a meat cleaver down the center if your skill, I'd have matching halves. That's very important." She said, squishing her cheeks slightly. "Of course, you could stand to lose a few pounds." Amelia said, walking over as Willow let go.

"And ya know, ya know, ya know? This could be beautiful. Mascara, maybe some lip gloss, and we're on our way. Get this girl some blush; and Willow, I need your brush. Let's make her beautiful." Chris sang, smirking. "Let's make her beautiful..." Willow sang, holding a hair brush. "Let's make her beautiful..." Amelia stepped closer. "Make her beautiful..." Chris sang over the other two. "Okay?" "Okay!" Dewott agreed, the three forcing her to sit.

"Out of my way, geek!" Zach said, pushing a boy with glasses out of his way. "I don't want trouble..." He exclaimed. "You're gonna die at 3 pm!" Jay pushed him into some girls, who pushed him away. "Don't you dare touch me! Get away, pervert!" "What did I ever do to them?" He walked away quickly. "Who could survive this? I can't escape this! I think I'm dying!" The students sang.

"Who's that with Chris?" Ms. Izumi said, looking over at the group. "Whoa. Willow, Chris, Amelia..." "And someone!" A girl sang. "Willow, Chris, Amelia..." "And a babe!" Two boys sang. "Willow, Chris, Amelia..." "Dewott?!" Violet exclaimed, eyes widening. "Dewott? Dewott? Dewott?!" The students sang as Dewott stepped up, smiling. Her hair was brushed out and curly, she wore contacts now along with makeup, she had a blue jacket over a white shirt, grey mini skirt, blue knee high socks, and black flats.

"And you know, you know, you know. Life can be beautiful. You hope, you dream, you pray. And you get your way! Ask me how it feels lookin' like hell on wheels... My God, it's beautiful! I might be beautiful... And when you're beautiful..." Dewott grinned and threw a fist in the air. "It's a beautiful frickin' day!"

"Willow! Chris! Amelia! Dewott! Willow! Chris! Amelia! Dewott! Dewott! Dewott! Dewott! Dewott!" The students sang, Dewott jumping for joy and grinning happily, not noticing the worried look on Violet's face.
