-Later-
3:40 P.M.
"Onee-san! How was school today?"
Hanabi asked in glee as she now sat strapped in the passenger seat of my car, her cute lavender eyes held on me the entire time.
It was now past 3 o'clock and we both were heading home for the day.
Thank goodness.
I thought, a relieved sigh spilling from my lips. But of course, I didn't forget to respond back to my happy little sister, my head turning to spare her a glance.
I smiled. "It was, alright. Nothing major happened. What about you? You seem pretty happy." I responded back sweetly, wanting to know what has gotten her in such a positive mood.
Her hair and outfit was just as neat and pretty as I first saw her this morning, her lunch box and book bag stashed underneath her seat. Her cellular device was held on her lap because she was just playing on it recently.
The brown haired girl giggled by my question, a large grin coming upon her bright face.
"Well, there were a bunch of people that talked to me today! It was so great! There was even... a boy."
And as soon as she said the three letter word of death, I gasped loudly and sharply. My head whipped towards her for a split second to only show her how horrified I felt.
"What? A b-boy? You know Father would freak out if he were to-!"
But I was interrupted by a hand wave from Hanabi, her features calm despite me mentioning Father. "And he won't find out because it isn't anything serious, onee-san. We just talked a little. He even gave me his name."
"And what is his name, Hanabi?" I responded back, wanting to know everything I can about this, boy.
Hanabi raised an eyebrow by my quick response, my hands holding the steering wheel tighter as I turned it. We were almost home.
Just a few more turns.
Father should be there waiting for us. Hopefully, he's made dinner.
I am terribly starving now. After all the work I had to do, all the lessons I had to sit through, I was right back hungry again. So dinner, sounds really nice right now.
I licked my lips quickly upon that thought but it was interrupted by Hanabi's voice.
"Konohamaru. That's his name. He's really sweet too. Also funny. I will definitely be talking to him again." She declared confidently which actually earned a giggle out of me.
Oh Hanabi...
I shook my head, turning down another road once more while staying in the correct lane which could take us to our designated destination.
"Well he sounds great. As long as he makes you happy. Then it's fine. Just don't rush things, please. You know what father says-"
"I know, I know. Don't date until we're thirty, got it." She mocked amusingly which made me let out a full blown laugh this time.
Her words were so hilarious, I couldn't contain myself.
Father never outright and tells us an age in which he thinks we should start dating but he does seem to signal an age.
An age that's old.
Very old.
And by hearing Hanabi say such words, I couldn't control my laughter.
The rest of the car ride home we both did nothing but laugh and joke.
A good time was what we were having but as soon as I drove into the parking lot and saw a silver Honda Odyssey in the driveway, our laughter quickly died down.
Father's here.
A gulp slipped down my throat and suddenly I remembered last night.
The night where we both stayed up and made a bunch of noise.
Father never truly spoke to us about such a time so now...
Just might be that time.
I started to grow tense at that, the car now quiet. I drove slowly inside and chose to park directly beside Father's vehicle, soon working my right hand over to pull the gear up to the "P" which stands for park.
There, I sat in my seat in silence for a few seconds, just using this time to collect my emotions and also my thoughts.
Hanabi did the same because she felt just as I did.
Extremely tense.
She gulped, her eyes switching towards the dashboard.
"U-Uhh, couldn't father have forgotten about last night?" She asked shakily as if reading my mind. But we both know, her words were false.
If Father is pissed, he stays pissed until he solves his problems himself.
So that means father, remembers last night and will address it as soon as we walk inside that door.
My shoulders rose in discomfort, my breathing slightly growing faster. But...
The longer we sit here, the more we drag this out.
So it's better if we just get this over with, to tackle this head on.
It's, gonna be tough but..
We can do this.
So, with a glance over at my tensed little sister, I pulled one hand over to grab her hand which was propped on her thigh, immediately getting her attention. Her head snapped towards me and her eyes widened, slightly.
I sighed. "I know this is gonna be difficult to do but, we have to face father, head on. Once we do, it'll be all over." I spoke with a nod but my words didn't sit well with Hanabi.
She pouted, shaking her head. "But what if he grounds us? What if he takes away our TV? What then?" She asked desperately, just not liking our odds.
And by her words, I grew right back tense.
Damn it!
But it was no use sitting outside in my car all day.
We gotta do this.
So, I shook Hanabi's hand in a way that comforted her, my eyes still staring deep within her own.
I smiled, my thumb rubbing the top of her hand, back and forth. "We'll work it out. I can do most of the talking, okay." I said softly, to reassure her. And by my last words, it finally did the trick.
She blew out a deep breath, one that calmed her spirit, her soul. Once she was in a state that was manageable, one that could carry her on, she nodded.
"Alright. Let's go."
Those words were just enough for me to finally build up some courage to leave my vehicle, my hand throwing open my door. Hanabi did the same but a little slower than I did, her hands also scrambling for her belongings underneath her seat.
Exiting my car, I closed the door behind me to only make my way to the back doors, one of my hands launching out for the handle. I opened the door quickly to grab my own belongings, soon closing the door again by my hip.
Hanabi, now standing outside, remained close by the passenger door with a very uneasy look on her face, her lavender eyes steady eyeing the front door of our home.
I watched as she gulped once more, nothing but fear and hesitance present in her eyes. Emotions I just did not want her to feel at the moment.
It made me feel even more guilty to see her in such a state for I was the one that convinced her to disobey father.
It's once again, my fault.
And now, I have to suffer the consequences.
I blew out a deep breath, to steady myself, to calm my raging heartbeat and to get all of my thoughts together. Because once we enter inside that door, it will be like stepping inside a gladiator fight.
It will be a 50/50 chance that we will win this battle but, we have to try.
So with that, I closed the door to my back seat and nodded my
head at Hanabi, signaling that it was time to go inside.
She hesitated a bit which made me frown.
"It's okay, Hanabi. Everything will be fine." I reassured her softly, a smile present on my face which convinced her to trust my words. And it made me happy to see the faint smile that appeared on her own face, her feet quickly taking her over to me.
"Alright, onee-san." She responded back sweetly and from there, we both made our way to our home, passing by father's vehicle and walking directly towards the front door of our modern one story house.
And all the while, we both were wishing that the conversation that we are about to have with father, won't be so bad..
-Inside-
With shaky movements, Hanabi and I slowly worked ourselves inside our home, the front door creeping wide open for the both of us.
My lavender eyes peered in briefly and I couldn't help the gulp that slid down my throat when I took in how quiet the house was.
Hanabi inched closer beside me, her innocent eyes also taking a look inside.
And there, close beside me, was where she stayed even, when I inched inside, officially making it into our home.
I looked around, back and forth. But I saw father nowhere. I found myself sighing in relief at that.
So far so good.
We at least need to make it to our room, that'll give me enough time to sort out the rest of my thoughts. I smiled.
Yeah, that'll be grea-
But my inner thoughts were cut short when a deep masculine voice arose in the quiet air, doing away with the peace.
The voice was one I did not want to hear at the moment. It was also something I did not want directed at me.
At least not right now.
But it was there, and it filled up the entire house.
"Hinata! Hanabi! Kitchen, now!"
Hiashi, our father, held anger in his voice as he barked for us to enter a place where he, was located, worsening the worry we felt.
Hanabi whimpered fearfully in response, moving even closer to my shaky form until our hips touched.
"Oh no." She whispered underneath her breath which raised the guilt for me. But I knew, we had to follow Father's orders or we'd just get him even more angry.
So, with a deep, quivering breath, I turned to Hanabi to only signal her forward with my hand, to get her to walk.
Reluctantly, she did and we both began to travel away from our positions to the direction where Father resided, not forgetting to close and lock the front door first.
And before we began to advance forward fully, we instead turned to set our belongings into the living room, just gently propping our lunch boxes and book bags on the love seat that was there, freeing our hands.
Afterwards, we walked forward with caution in our stride, following the small hallway that shot straight from the front door to the kitchen which sat on the right of us.
Both of us were shaking in our boots, frightened of what father was going to say about our past actions as we grew closer and closer.
Hanabi walked some ways behind me while I took the lead, her journey forward much slower than mine.
But once we finally stepped inside the kitchen, once we made it to the destination we both dread, we were faced with some unexpected things.
An aroma of no other hit both of our noses which involuntarily made the both of us salivate.
It was as if the delicious smell in the air signaled our empty bellies to growl and gurgle in hunger.
We both, Hanabi and I, were not expecting to see the dinner table in the kitchen all prepped, and ready for us to eat.
Our father, who was busy washing dishes at the moment, stood with his back turned to us, just allowing us to take in the impressive steak dinner before us.
A surprised gasp shot out of Hanabi's lips, the scene before us just totally blowing the both of us away.
"Wh-What?" She whispered out in disbelief while I just stood speechless, my lavender eyes glued on the glass plates which sat neatly on the square table in front of us.
Our father let out a chuckle, soon turning to look at us over his shoulder while he constantly scrubbed at a dirty pan, his hands soapy as he clutched a drenched sponge.
He nodded towards the table, also raising an eyebrow as he caught sight of us just cautiously standing by the kitchen entrance.
"Well, aren't you girls hungry? Come and eat." He only said before turning back around to tend to the rest of the dirty dishes inside the sink, giving us the time to walk on over to sit and eat the delicious meal he personally made for us.
My eyes were shot wide open the entire time, my mind just totally blown.
What, is going on here?
Father seemed mad at us when we first arrived inside the house but now...
He's calm?
He isn't fazed that we broke one of his rules?
The situation that we were in was a strange one. One that I just couldn't wrap my head around.
This isn't like father at all...
I squinted my eyes upon that thought, soon turning my attention onto the older male before us, my lavender eyes steady piercing his back.
Father, now home from work, wore something more comfortable, instead of his uptight tux's and slacks which he usually wears. Now, he wore a large grey robe which covered just about everything. The long cozy fabric started at his neck and swooped down to his legs which met long black sweatpants with grey wool slippers.
His back was directed towards us all the while, never once stopping his work to check if we actually followed through with his previous orders.
I raise my own eyebrow.
Something's not right...
But as much as I wanted to figure it out, as much as I wanted to discover the trap that father could have planned for us, my stomach was not allowing it. It constantly voiced how empty it was, leaving me severely uncomfortable.
I groaned in discomfort and with that, I picked up my feet to work myself towards the table, just giving up. Besides, I can't think on an empty stomach so I won't pass this one up.
And at the sight of my movement, my worried sister began to slowly work her way towards the table too, just following in my footsteps.
Her eyes, though, were trained on our father the entire time who was quietly rinsing and washing all the dirty pans he previously used to make the meal that now laid before us. His facial expressions were hidden because of his long brown hair which framed his face, covering it entirely.
Another gulp slipped down my throat but I soon found myself making it up to a chair on the side of the table which was facing the position me and Hanabi once stood, the spot that was the entrance to the kitchen.
Hanabi decided to sit further away from father, her hands shakily pushing back the tall black chair on the end to give her room to sit down.
I, did the same, and soon we both were sitting down quietly, the food father made now held closely within our eyesight.
I stared down at it cautiously, tilting my head left and right to closely inspect it.
Hmm..
I didn't see anything wrong. It looked normal. Nothing crazy that screams punishment. It actually looked extravagant and tasty.
Now staring at the juicy, tender steak which was sprinkled with all types of seasonings along with fettuccine noodles which was drenched in alfredo sauce and to make the meal healthy, I saw slices of spinach and dices of cherry tomatoes here and there on my dish. And to work alongside it, we both, Hanabi and I, had a glass of water to drink.
Everything looked wonderful which almost, made me forget that father was mad at us.
So eventually, my restraint slipped and soon I found myself launching out to the metal fork by my plate and I stuck it into my dish.
First, I picked at the chopped steak until the fork could delve inside a lone piece. Once I got my chosen steak hooked on the end of my metal fork, I quickly pulled it up, in a hungry fit and threw it into my mouth.
Immediately, large bursts of intense flavor and tenderness hit my taste buds, my teeth quickly chomping down on the fine meat. My eyes, closed in joy in response, my jaws slowly moving to take in every bit of flavor the juicy meat possessed. Hanabi, from where she sat beside me at the end of the table, stared at me with raised eyebrows, a part of her slowly giving in by just my reaction to father's food.
So soon, she was just like me, eating at father's food with nothing but joy present in her heart. Silence erupted in the kitchen as we both just settled on filling our bellies, completely letting our guards down.
The meal was exceedingly pleasant, one that hit the spot just right.
It truly left me speechless.
So we both, hungry as can be, ate a way at father's food as he stood busy washing dishes. Ever so often, his white eyes would trail off of the dirty dish he held to instead look at the both of us who were enjoying his food, no longer tensed.
His eyebrows furrowed, his hands soon placing the dry dish over with the others, ending his task. Once he was done, washing, cleaning, rinsing and drying his pots and pans, he began to work himself around the room to place the kitchen supplies back to where they rightfully belonged.
But his actions were not on my mind. Hell, his mere presence was forgotten as I just steadily picked and ate away at the fine dish in front of me.
I hummed in complete joy, my teeth now chomping on the alfredo covered noodles. A delight filled groan slipped through my lips in response.
Mmm... so creamy!
The flavor to everything was so heightened as to where it was almost overwhelming. The alfredo sauce was thick and creamy while the noodles were steamy hot and soft, easy to crunch onto. The steak, wasn't hard and chewy.
No..
It was tender and succulent, it's meaty juices filling and attacking my taste buds in a way that it was mind blowing. Everything was amazing, including the veggies that were there. They were just as tasty and rich as everything else. The food was absolutely impressive. I just had no words.
I groaned once more, pausing to reach over my plate to retrieve my glass of water, pulling it to my lips to drink so I could work down all the delicious food I just chewed and swallowed. The room Hanabi and I sat in was quiet, other than the random noises of pots clattering and drawers being opened, producing slight thuds. Quiet ones though.
Hanabi, sat in a state similar to mine.
Completely satisfied.
Her movements were rapid as she just ate away at every single thing that was placed on her plate, her jaws moving and her hand constantly reaching out for her water.
We both, were hypnotized by father's food, placed in a trance which would cost us, big time.
Our father, after placing all the dishes away, leaving the kitchen spotless once more, slowly made his way towards the table we occupied. His eyes scanned the both of us, eyeing as we ate in complete silence.
He smirked to himself. But he said nothing, only sat down on the seat positioned at the other end of the table. Now, he was facing Hanabi while I was positioned on his right.
For a moment, he only sat there and watched us hungrily eat the meal he fixed for us. He surveyed the both of us the entire time and we didn't even notice.
His mind, was slowly growing filled with things, thoughts, words he wanted to say until it got to a point where he was ready to say, those said words.
He lowered his stern eyes, his head falling down to inspect his robe sleeve. He brushed at it a couple of times with one hand, riding the piece of clothing from the dirt and lint that was there.
But afterwards, he cleared his throat, officially ready to speak.
"So, I see, I don't get a proper hello today. I wonder." He clicked his tongue. "How was school for the both of you? Did you make it there on time?"
Father's words were so sudden, I literally almost choked on my food, my body stiffening greatly. The questions he asked just now successfully brought me back to our troubled situation.
I gulped, freezing all movement. My lavender eyes did not move and connect with my Father's but only remained down onto my half eaten plate.
Hanabi whimpered but said nothing, also frozen in place. I glanced over at her, more thoughts rushing back from before.
I promised her that I will get us out of this situation. I will try to sweet-talk, father.
So with that, I blew out a deep breath, steadying my breathing as well as my rapid heart beat. I wanted to be calm, only then I would be able to think clearly and answer Father in a way that was confident. Being scared isn't going to solve anything.
I have to be tough.
So that, is the goal that I worked toward and I tried my best, to accomplish it.
Be tough, Hinata.
Be brave.
I blew out another breath but afterwards, I forced myself to answer Father, without any lies.
That will just get us into more trouble.
I swallowed, tightening my hold on my fork. "I'm sorry, father. Today's just been a rough day for the both of us. That's all. So..." I trialed off to only turn slightly in the tall seat I sat in, nodding my head bravely at my stern Father across the table. His head rose upon my gesture but the small smile that I had on my face remained.
"Hello, father." I answered back, finally acknowledging him like he wanted.
In response, he smiled thinly back and I watched as he turned his attention onto his other daughter who sat quietly on the other end of the table, her lavender eyes popping wide open at the sight of his stare.
He raised an eyebrow. "And Hanabi?" He only said, signaling for her to do the same as I did.
I glanced back over at her, watching as she stiffened once more. And briefly, she spared a glance over in my direction. But when she did, she instantly could pick up the reassurance held in my eyes.
The positive energy, the bravery I expressed only fueled her as well causing her to finally answer Father, without any problem.
She nodded. "Hi, father." She said, her soft voice filling up the quiet kitchen.
The black haired male hummed at hearing the two of our voices, also liking that we followed his commands.
But he turned back to me because previously, he spoke of a question. One that he wanted answered.
He raised one of his eyebrows. "So, Hinata. How about it? Did you two get to school on time? Or were you late?" He asked once more, refreshing our minds of the question.
Immediately, I stiffened, my breathing increasing in speed. The bravery I once had slightly withered away because of the vow I promised myself.
I can't lie to father...
I just can't.
But if I don't lie, I will be telling him that we were indeed late, earning us both a tardy. And also, I will be admitting that breaking his rule of staying up late caused us to get that said tardy. I gritted my teeth.
I'm trapped!
But there was no use in lying. It will only worsen my situation.
I'd be just digging a larger hole.
So, I only spat out my answer and didn't look back.
"Yes, Father. We were late."
My words were quiet and filled with guilt as I sat with my head hung low, my eyes avoiding father's at all cost. Hanabi frowned herself as she just watched as I battled with this situation all alone, my answer heard by everyone in the room.
But little did I know, father already knew. He let out a disappointed sigh, also giving his head a shake. "Unacceptable. You girls, disappoint me. After all I've done for you two, this, is the thanks I get? Late night parties? Nights of rowdiness and noise? That's, the thanks I get?"
Father's voice began to escalate in volume from his negative emotions, reaching a level only parent's go during a lecture.
And we both, Hanabi and I, knew the conversation was becoming one.
Father, had a lot to get off of his chest. And at the moment, he didn't care. He let it all, out.
So we both sat in silence, guilt written all over our faces as we just listened as our father ranted.
"I don't ask for much, girls. I only ask for you to obey the rules I set and nothing more. I only ask that you go to bed at a decent time to get enough rest for school. I ask, to study, to work hard in your books so you two will get a good paying job similar to the one I have now. I only want you two to be successful but no, instead of what I ask, I get.."
His voice trailed off because he suddenly slammed his hand down onto the table, creating a loud thud to happen. Both of us, scared out of our minds, jumped in a fright, our hearts pounding even faster than before from his abrupt action.
"disrespect!" Hiashi finished off with rage held within his white eyes, both of them held on the two of us.
Silence was heard from the both of us for we felt extremely bad, guilty after listening to father's desperate words which held a wish of his, clearly inside.
I frowned, my body afraid to move a muscle. I was afraid to do anything because I didn't want to attract father's attention.
One wrong move could earn us another lecture.
So I stayed perfectly still. I didn't eat, only stared at my food as father panted in anger, his eyes switching from me and Hanabi in utter disappointment.
He sighed, shaking his head once more. "This won't happen again. Understand me?" He spat sternly, eyeing the both of us with narrowed eyes.
Quickly, to not disappoint the male before us further, we both nodded frantically, also moving to be vocal.
"Yes, father."
"Yes."
Instantly, Father nodded in approval, his hands now folded across his chest.
He huffed "Count you girls lucky for I am feeling pretty generous. And that's because, of your honesty, Hinata." He announced, nodding his head at me which made me gasp in major surprise.
I knew it!
Oh thank kami!
Nothing but relief flooded my being as I sat in my chair, my head rising from it being bowed all the while. Mentally, I patted myself on the back for making the right choice, for doing justice for Hanabi and I. I feel happy again.
I did it!
We're not in trouble!
I couldn't help the small smile that spread across my pink plump lips, my body growing jittery in my seat.
But again, I didn't forget to vocally respond back to Father.
I bowed my head in his direction, revealing my gratitude. "Thank you so much, father." I said softly, my hold on my fork loosening. I was now calm, no longer tensed and frightened.
Father smiled at my response. "You're welcome. Now, I will leave you two to finish eating. I have paperwork to do and afterwards, I will be taking a nap. I expect you girls to be respectful during that time." He announced, slipping in another order before he rose up out of his chair, our heads nodding once more.
We both watched as he nodded one last time at us before walking away, completely leaving the room to instead cross the entire house to enter his own room. A room which was the master bedroom. But it wasn't just a bedroom for him.
No..
It was also an office. One that held a laptop, a desk, chair, binders, papers. Everything an office had was found inside his room. Mostly, when we are home, he is often found there, working. And if not that, sleeping.
And that, is where he was going now, to start his daily routine.
A long, relieved filled breath escaped both of our lips, a weight like no other lifting from our shoulders. I suddenly felt light and free after Father left the room, everything around me now clear. I felt like I could breathe again.
Hanabi sighed but quickly sent me a huge, cheeky smile, a strong relief present in her eyes also. "Oh my gosh, Hinata. You're a lifesaver." She whispered across the table towards me, her words bringing a giggle out of me. I felt proud that I was able to stir us away from trouble, from punishment.
I smiled too, sending the positive gesture towards my lovely sister. "Why thank you, Hanabi. Let's just, for now on, stay on Father's good side." I announced, also in a whisper. And Hanabi was quick to nod back.
Afterwards, we quickly went back to eating because we were both still terribly hungry. Now, as we went about eating, we did it freely, without tension or stress on our side.
Everything was resolved so there was absolutely nothing troubling our minds at all.
Until, I backtracked on my words, an earlier thought popping up inside of my head.
I grimaced, pausing my actions for a brief moment.
Err... scratch that...
I will probably have to summon up Father's bad side once more.
I did not forget.
Oh no.
My plan to get into the HeatWave Band's contest was still in effect. Nothing, was going to stop me.
I narrowed my eyes.
Not even, father..
-Two Hours Later-
Much time has passed since the incident with father.
The house was now quiet. The sun that is usually found risen high up in the sky is slowly coming down now, night steady creeping upon us.
At the moment, I sat comfortably within the living room with a table spread completely with homework, my cute lavender designed folders stacked beside it all, comfy pink pajamas fitting my body. The Tv before me was not on but instead off because I was afraid that father would catch me watching it when I was supposed to be completing my homework. I didn't want him mad at me again.
I don't want to risk getting a punishment so soon.
I sighed, stopping my actions to peer over at his bedroom door that was located on my left, one that was closed. Darkness could be seen underneath it which indicated that he was in the process of taking his afternoon nap.
I hummed at that, moving the pencil I held tightly up to tap my chin. The eraser part came softly into contact with my pale skin, my body sitting upright in the loveseat that was here in the living room.
My legs were propped up so my homework papers could be set to where I could easily see them, seeing they were lying on my lap.
As of right now, I was in the middle of finishing up a few math work and then, I would venture off to my history homework. Once I complete that, I will officially be done with school for today.
I smiled and with that, turned my attention back onto my paper, lowering my pencil to mark at the white page filled with numbers once more, the room only consisting of me.
Hanabi, was also busy with homework, but she decided to stay in the room we shared to do it. And to give her privacy, I chose to take the living room to do my own.
So here I was, quietly working in silence which made me feel really good. Not only is the silence helping me focus, I was also able to get my thoughts together.
I was able, to come up with a plan on how to enter the HeatWave Band's contest, undetected.
I smirked, marking down a number three on my math page with my pencil, for problem eight.
My chance is now...
Father is lying asleep inside of his room and he is a very heavy sleeper. So, I could use this time to sneak inside of his bedroom and..
Take... his laptop.
Of course that is the only device I have to order something using Father's money. I couldn't just order The Heat Wave Bundle from my phone because I would need my father's credit card information.
Something I do not have or know.
So, I will go the easier route, and take his laptop and quickly buy what it is I have to buy and delete the history of me ever doing it. I smiled to myself, absolutely liking my devious plan.
It will all be worth it.
The feeling I feel when it comes to the HeatWave Band's contest is so positive. It's strong too, constantly calling for me to do it, to enter it. So..
I will...
I nodded, marking down another answer as I continued to place together all my thoughts.
My plan will officially happen after I finish my homework.
Minutes and minutes went by as I sat in the same place just marking and writing on several sheets of paper, my lavender eyes narrowed in deep concentration.
Time was steadily passing by as I sat and just completed all the things I was given from my teachers to do, finally getting to a place where I was free.
Free from homework!
And once I was, I couldn't help the exhausted sigh that escaped my lips, my eyes falling on the table full of folders and completed papers.
"Finally." I huffed underneath my breath, just completely relieved that all of my homework was done. Now, it was time to start my plan.
But first...
I looked back towards my father's door and checked the space underneath it which allowed me to peer briefly inside of the room. I couldn't see the contents held in the said room but I can see one thing. I smiled, in triumph.
Even now, the room is dark.
Father was still asleep, giving me the time I needed to do as I wanted.
So quickly, I grabbed the papers that sat on top of my lap and moved my body into a sitting position on the bouncy couch, no longer hunching back with my legs raised.
Now my body was hovering over the long end table which was located in the middle of all the chairs here, my hands scrambling around to get all of my homework papers in line.
Soft shuffles could be heard as I went about doing my actions, trying to at least get all of my belongings neat and organized before I leave my position. I won't be gone long but, still...
I can't have the house dirty.
Keeping my surroundings nice and tidy is beginning to become a habit of mine. Now that part of myself, I did congratulate Father on.
A small smile slowly tugged at my lips upon that thought but I soon shook my head, ridding myself of such silly things.
I need to focus. I only have one shot at this.
If I don't do it today, I would have to wait and do it tomorrow.
But if I'm caught on the other hand...
Now that, is a different story.
A story I don't even want to indulge in.
So therefore, I ignored all the negative outcomes to my situation, only focusing on the good. I nodded to myself.
I can do this.
I will, do this...
Finally, after a bit of tossing and tussling my school papers together, I was successful in working them into a neat little stack, also placing them to lay on top of a lone folder. Now, they were officially off of my to-do list.
A joyful smile came upon my face by accomplishing such a task and with that, I took this moment to hop up from my seat, my lavender eyes taking in my surroundings a bit.
Everything was quiet, even if there has been much time that's passed. Hanabi must still be working on her homework as well as father who was also still fast asleep, leaving me the ability to do my devious plan. I turned my body towards my left, my eyes narrowing upon the door there.
Hanabi doesn't need to know about this. Not now...
I remember earlier, when she was so scared out of her mind when she found out that we were indeed in trouble. She was frightened of the outcome of father's wrath. She didn't want to receive a punishment. That's why she quickly agreed to the promise we made. The promise to never get on father's bad side again.
So Hanabi would surely protest if she found out what I've planned.
She will definitely try to talk me out of it.
And that, is something I can't have. So that means..
I have to do this alone.
No longer will I bring my little sister into the fire with me. This time, I will pull the devious act all by myself.
And I will do it right, this time...
So with that, I quietly began to creep forward, taking my feet lightly off of the carpet underneath me to move onward. Right off of the bat, my movement was done slowly and cautiously, little to no sound made from my creeping.
So I kept at it.
The distance between the living room and father's room grew closer and closer in no time until I was standing directly in front of it, my heart beating fast within my chest.
The suspense grew tenfold as I stood face to face in front of my sleeping father's room. My breathing began to grow a bit faster, my palms super damp.
But, I shook off my fears. I shook off all the worried thoughts my brain was conjuring up and only thought of one thing.
The contest..
So with that in mind, I used it as motivation to guide me forward. And, it worked. My hand launched out slowly and steadily towards the gold door knob in front of me. My lavender eyes were downcasted as my palm slipped around the cold circular knob, finally having it in my grasp.
I let out a deep breath, steadying myself.
This, is it...
That thought, was the last thought that crossed my mind before I managed to build up enough courage to open my father's bedroom door.
Briefly, I peeked in, my body following the door as it slowly opened so I could look inside. My one lavender eye blinked, steadily taking in the inside of the room.
But all I saw, was darkness.
I inwardly cursed upon that but, I didn't give up. I stayed put in my spot and just used my one eye to look around rapidly, taking in father's huge room.
To the right of the room, held a large bed, covered with black blankets. A figure could easily be seen in it because one side of the bed had a large bulge there, indicating someone was occupying the comfy space. And also from where I had the door cracked open, I could hear very loud and distinctive snores. Ones that sound just like father. I nodded thankfully upon that.
Yes, that officially confirms that he is still sleeping.
So all I have to do, is locate his laptop with my eyes and then, retrieve it.
But, I looked around, the best I could within the mega dark room, my one eye taking in the entire place.
I gritted my teeth for a split second.
Oh no!
I can't see anything in there.
It was so dark in father's room, my one eye working back and forth for my father's laptop.
His room and how it was arranged was the only thing on my mind as I searched, my eye glancing over to the left side of the room. There, was where his desk was located and on top of it...
I gasped softly to myself.
His laptop has to be there!
My path was set. My plan was made. All there was left is to..
Execute it...
A deep breath escaped my lips.
Come on, Hinata...
You can do this..
I smiled, listening to my motivating thoughts. And soon, I found myself bravely opening father's door all the way. I didn't waste any time and slipped inside his mega dark room, leaving his door slightly open to give me at least some light to see.
And by doing that, I was able to see glimpses of my father's entire room, the light from the living room guiding me to his prized possession.
His laptop.
My feet carried me to the left side of his room in a hurry, my hands reaching out for the large rectangular device held on a wooden desk. Constantly, in the slightly dark room, I looked back to check to see if my Father was still asleep.
I smiled in relief.
Yes, he's not awake..
So with that, I continued to creep up to his personal work desk and grabbed the portable laptop on top, my fingers working over to take out the charger piece which was connected to it.
Once I did that, I grabbed it, holding it tightly to my chest. The device itself was heavy since the size of it was so massive. But, it was nothing I couldn't handle so, I easily maneuvered my way back to whence I came, easily exploiting my plan and getting away with it.
Quickly, I exited my father's dark room, using one hand to hold the end of his laptop while the other moved to close his bedroom door.
I gritted my teeth as I gently closed the large object back without a single sound, condemning his unconscious form to a room of darkness.
But once the door was closed and I was back in an area of silence, I absolutely could not contain my excitement.
I wiggled happily in place, my other hand moving to grab the other end of the laptop to hold it up.
"Yes, yes!" I whispered to myself, glad that I was able to do what I wanted for a change.
Now, I am able to enter the contest. Now, I am able to order a Heat Wave Bundle. Now, I will be a step closer into winning a trip with my favorite band.
And I just couldn't, wait...
-In The Kitchen-
"And now..." I trailed off in a whisper as I sat myself down at the diner table located in the kitchen, my body landing right in front of my father's laptop. In the process, my bum collided gently with the chair that was there.
My medium size phone was placed right beside the portable computer while a string of purple headphones laid hooked from it.
An amazing song from the Heat Wave Band was playing proudly within my ears as I began to work myself inside my father's open laptop.
I bobbed my head lightly along to the rock music that was playing through my phone, the music bursting through my personal headphones into my two ears.
I was so happy at the moment, my lavender eyes steadily focused on the blue screen in front of me.
The laptop before me was slowly coming to life which made me grow even more excited.
I smiled, a big smile. "Oh my gosh." I whispered out into the quiet room, all the lights shut off. Only the light from the computer in front of me could be seen as I worked my way inside it.
"Woke up to the sound of pouring rain."
"Washed away a dream of you."
"But nothing else could ever take you away."
Cause you'll always be my dream come true."
Naruto's charming and relaxing voice flooded through my ears as I just waited for the laptop in front of me to start up.
Numerous colors flashed before me, ones that were mostly blue and black until I saw a start up screen.
The startup screen was one that showed a picture. A very, deep and personal picture, indeed.
My eyes instantly widened upon seeing it. I also, began to tear up.
A picture of us, Hanabi, me and mother were presented on the screen before me, standing all together as a family. It was an older picture because we were so young here. Even father looked younger as well. And mother is..
I gasped, in a mix of shock and joy.
Alive...
Her smile was so vibrant as she just stared back at the camera, her hands holding on tightly to Hanabi's small body for she was only a newborn here.
And then, there was me. Five year old me was standing there so shyly beside both of my happy parents. My midnight blue hair was short here, framing my forehead. A kind smile could be found on my pale face as I also stared back into the camera, my cheeks a rosy red. Everyone was happy here.
The picture alone made me, happy.
I've never seen such a picture before..
This, was the first time I ever went and used father's laptop and this, was surely new.
So new..
But the picture also showed how empty our lives were now. Mother wasn't here to make everything jolly and happy like we were in the picture. She, is who we are missing and without her...
Everything feels so dry and lonely..
Maybe that's why father has this picture presented so proudly on his computer.
He misses old times..
And I don't blame him..
I sighed, a deep sigh of pure sadness but finally, took my eyes off of the picture to inspect the full page. And once I saw what was up there, all sadness went away, leaving only shock.
I gasped, my mouth flopping wide open.
Oh kami, I was afraid this would happen.
On father's laptop, read one word. One word that made me worry, a lot.
Password:
A large white box was seen underneath the word, just waiting for me to put down the answer for the security lock screen.
I whimpered softly to myself, the music from my favorite band still playing nonstop in my headphones.
"We spent the summer with the top rolled down."
"Wish ever after would be like this."
Even though Naruto sounds so majestic right now, his voice did not fully soothe me. My plan was brought to a great halt and just, because of one word.
I sat back in my seat in deep thought, just sizing up the laptop screen with my eyes.
Hmm, what could the password be?
At the moment, father was only on my mind and I thought about everything he allowed in his world. That he enjoyed. And that was,
Cooking.
Writing.
Business.
Money.
Conversating.
Family.
I stopped upon that last thought, my body snapping up to grow closer to the computer once more. As I did, my eyes glanced over briefly upon the picture on the laptop's lock screen, just taking it in and saving it in my brain.
Then, my finger sought the square pad below and I moved it gently upward, using my fingertips to guide the cursor into the white box.
A clicker appeared right after my action and at that moment I began to type.
Password: January 8
With several clicks from the keyboard, I submitted in father's birthday for the password box.
"Maybe, this could be the answer." I whispered to myself, soon clicking the enter button once I was done typing. But all that did was send me red letters which said...
Wrong Password.
"Gahh!" I groaned out in frustration, quickly moving to try again.
Password: December 27.
But once again, my answer only received one thing.
Wrong Password.
I tried again, and again and again, just circling around father's last remaining loved ones. I tried Hanabi's birthday, our names, father's name and last name. But it was incorrect so I moved on to another topic of his that he enjoys. I moved onto his accounting job. I desperately typed in the word money and even the name of father's workplace. I typed in everything I could think of.
But it was all wrong in the end.
I was growing deeply frustrated, stumped on what father's password could be.
I whimpered in slight fear to myself, my body once again lounging back in my seat.
I sighed, completely stuck. "What, could it be? I whispered out, taking a second to spare a glance up at the ceiling, to give my head a rest.
Maybe I just need a breather.
Maybe I just need some time to think...
I have to think hard about this.
This is father!
Of course the password he has set for his work laptop is a difficult one. It's a valuable possession, one of great importance, so of course. But, there is one thing I do know...
It's a password that's meaningful.
He has a picture here that means much to him so his password has to, too. My eyes widened upon that, an answer popping in my head. An answer that was sitting here, smiling directly in my face the entire time. I gasped, something in my mind clicking like a piece to a puzzle would.
It's mom!
She's, the password!
She has to be.
A huge smile came upon my face once I connected everything together, getting an answer that could just be right. But I couldn't help the mental slap I gave myself.
Why didn't I come up with this sooner?
I know how much my father misses mother, how much he loves her. So of course, he would still contribute things in her name. So...
With that, I nodded, moving my fingers back onto the silver pad on the laptop and clicked the white box again. The black line came up inside the box in the middle of the screen, allowing me to type once more.
And so, I did.
I leaned forward and moved my fingers to press lightly upon the black keyboard that was there, my lavender eyes picking up the letters of the alphabet marked in white on the square keys.
Password: Hitomi Hyuga.
As soon as I entered my dear mother's name and pressed enter, I was met with a fantastic sight.
A bright screen filled with apps and different important icons came up which indicates that I was officially inside Father's laptop.
I couldn't help but cheer at that, my body bouncing up and down excitedly in the tall seat I sat in.
Yes, it worked!
My lavender eyes were filled with nothing but joy as they both scanned across the main screen before me.
I smiled, taking in the other picture that was posted up as father's wallpaper.
Before me, was another precious picture which was a recent one of Hanabi and I. There, presented before me stood the both of us smiling happily, holding each other's hands. White dresses could be seen on both of our bodies, yellow sunflowers printed here and there on the long attire which made the picture even more precious.
Outside, was where we had the picture taken and because of that, it made us look extremely gorgeous. I actually love this picture.
I understand why father has placed it as his home's cover page.
It looks really lovely.
Very, very lovely.
I found myself gazing at it remarkably, taking in every part of the gorgeous picture. I took in every detail, every pattern and even the surroundings of the two people in the picture.
I smiled but suddenly, I shook my head, my fingers soon moving back down onto the silver pad once more.
I'm stalling...
I have to do this quickly.
I have found myself constantly straying away from my goal, wasting valuable time to enter the contest I so desperately want. So, I blew out a deep breath, refocusing my thoughts and centering my brain on my goal. My mind was now fanatical on my task so now, I was all ready. I sighed.
Well, here goes.
First, I started off with entering into the Internet browser where I could search the web. There, I leaned forward and typed in 'The Heat Wave Band's Contest.'
Once I typed the phrase into the white box on the screen, I guided my fingers over to the enter key on the keyboard, clicking it. After I did that, a whole web page of results popped up on which I eagerly searched through.
Most were only articles about the contest, ones that were just explaining what the event was and all its entirety.
So, I scrolled down.
I used the pad located in the center of the laptop to maneuver my way down the web page of results, just eyeing each website with my eyes in full concentration.
I bit my lip. "Come on. It has to be somewhere. I whispered out in worry, not at all finding what I wanted. My fingers flicked the pad downward softly which controlled the page before me to slide down, revealing more and more results. My eyes scanned each and every one intently until I found a website that read...
Http:// Www. The Heatwave Band Official Website.com /contest.
My eyes shot wide open upon seeing such a website, excitement like no other filling up my entire being.
"Oh my gosh. This is it." I whispered out to myself in the darkness, my fingertips moving to lightly tap at the pad below, clicking on the website.
Once I did, I was allowed inside, The Heat Wave Band's website, straight into a link that said "contest."
My lavender eyes looked at everything the page had to offer, taking in all the merch that was available to buy.
On the top, of the website lay a banner of some sort, cutting across the page to form a medium size rectangle. But inside it, laid The Heat Wave Band's logo. The same fox as the one presented on the band's albums was shown there, representing the band.
A black and orange fire design was also seen crafted behind the faded picture which looked all too familiar, confirming my suspicions.
This is it.
I finally found it!
A smile was held on my face and I took this time to skim through the entire page, just taking in everything.
So far, I indeed saw the special HeatWave Band merch which was all limited editions to fans. The prices of such things are laid in red underneath.
For example, some of the items that were being sold were shirts with the HeatWave Band's names on them. Jeans with their fox print sewn on the right hand side on the fabric where the hip is located.
There were also jackets, lots of them. The exclusive fit came in all sorts of colors.
Orange, black and red.
There was even a mixture of the three colors with the words, 'The Heat Waves,' written broadly across the entire fit in a firelight font, in orange. The words could also come in black as well. There were many combinations available for the buyer to set their merchandise in.
It was so rad!
And of course, there were more additional heat wave items presented on the website as well like, shoes, phone cases, key chains and sunglasses to name a few. All available to buy for a limited time.
There were even Naruto, Sasuke, Shikamaru and Kiba plushies, the dolls presenting the men but in a much cuter way. I take it these dolls are for the girls that are so desperate to get close to the members but can not afford to see them.
I sighed sadly.
That sounds like me..
It's sad but true..
But to get back on track, the website was absolutely amazing, everything that I've dreamed of.
The website has everything!
I was so happy as I continued to scroll down the white page full of items, my eyes scanning left from right, taking in the many columns of merchandise.
But underneath each item along with the price, I picked up that there was also a time limit, one that gave me the days, hours and minutes of when the contest as well as the valuable merchandise was going to come to a close.
12:7:32
It read underneath, quickly ticking down as time passed on which subconsciously made me nervous.
The contest will end in 12 days, 7 hours and 32 minutes.
I swallowed briefly but quickly moved to do what I needed to. So, with my fingertips, I used the pad to pull myself all the way down until I made it to the very end of the website. There, I was able to see the final merchandise that was held on the entire site.
And that, was the bundle.
I turned my midnight blue head towards the description that laid beside it, a large orange box presented to my eyes.
-The Heat Wave Bundle
Purchase a bundle and enter the exclusive Heat wave contest to win a four week trip with your favorite band members that'll last a month.
What are you waiting for? Enter the contest!
My mouth dropped as I read it personally myself, reality really sinking in. I almost felt like fainting.
I can't believe it.
The Heat Wave Bundle is right here!
There was nothing stopping me from getting it.
Nothing.
And nothing at all did.
I clicked on the box as fast as I blinked, immediately popping into the billing part of the whole process. There, I sneakily used and accepted that I wanted to pay for the Heat Wave Bundle with father's card.
By clicking confirmed, I successfully took fifty dollars out of my father's checking account, a green check flashing up over my item.
Soon I was transported to another site where I had to enter my name and last name and also my shirt and pants size. I answered all the available questions and afterwards, I was moved to one final webpage where it revealed the end of my order. My lavender eyes scanned the computer intently, just silently reading what was on the screen.
Purchase Complete.
Your very own Heat Wave Bundle will arrive in four days!
Thanks for Purchasing!
My body froze in place as I read such words, over and over again. Disbelief was held strongly on my face as I stared back at my digital receipt.
Oh...
My..
Goodness...
I can't believe I just did that!!!
I entered the contest!
I sighed blissfully upon that, falling back into my chair in a daze. My mind just kept replaying and replaying my previous actions, a huge smile spread across my face.
Naruto, I might finally be able to meet you.
It's a super might but still, I've finally entered into the HeatWave Band's contest which moved me closer into winning.
Just like Sakura did.
I smiled widely, gleefully like a little kid would when given candy. I was grinning like a person would if they would find money on the ground in public. I was so thankful, so relieved.
Oh thank kami...
I just earned myself a pat on the back.
I nodded upon that thought but, I snapped up quickly, my eyes widening upon the screen before me.
Oh no... I totally forgot!
In order for my actions to stay hidden, I have to delete everything I did here. I gulped, jumping up to straighten my posture in the diner chair quickly.
Leaning forward, I placed my finger back onto the silver pad and began to click out of the site I was on, exiting it so it could go to oblivion. I clicked out of every website I went into.
I then went into the history tab and deleted everything that I searched tonight that had to do with The Heat Wave Band. Afterwards, I then shut it down, returning it to a state where it was totally blank.
Once I was done, father's laptop was just as I had first gotten it.
Totally boring.
I giggled upon my thought but soon hopped up from my seat, now officially done with father's laptop. It's done its purpose and now, I have to sneak it back into his room.
My plan wasn't over and done with yet. Every part of it had to be successful or I would have done all of this for nothing.
I can't afford to get caught now.
So, I made quick moves out of the kitchen, leaving behind my phone and ear buds.
Silent but fast, I zoomed across the front door and made it in no time to the brightened living room. I squinted my eyes once the light hit my orbs which was now used to being in the darkness, my bare feet continuing to take me straight towards my father's room.
I didn't stop walking until I made it directly in front of his large door again, my squinted eye glancing down underneath the door yet again. I smirked slyly.
Still dark inside.
So with that, I copied what I sneakily had done the first time and I opened my father's door very, discreetly.
I snuck in, cracking the door open to check if father was indeed asleep.
Instantly, I grimaced once his tiresome snores grow louder, filling up the darkened room, his long body shifting on.top of his bed.
I smiled thinly as I just stared at his tired form, my head nodding happily at such a sight.
All clear.
Everything was going right in my favor which made me super cheerful, my feet taking me into the dark room once more.
With both hands held onto my father's laptop, I began to make my way back into the fully darkened room. My two lavender orbs were fixated on the left side of the room as I crept along, making sure to stay quiet along the way.
The laptop was heavy in my hands so I held it as tightly as I could until I was upon father's desk once more, my delicate fingers gently placing the device back onto the wooden table. There, I made sure to move over and collect father's laptop charger in the darkness, my eyes widened largely.
It was hard to see so I dropped to my knees, using my hands to work across the floor in hopes of finding the cord I needed to charge father's laptop.
Everything needs to be just how it was when I first entered this room.
Father precisely had the charger to his work laptop plugged inside his device and it was placed neatly on his desk.
So that's, how I need to have things also.
Furiously, I scrambled around on my father's bedroom floor, swiping my hands left and right in hopes of running over a long cord of some sort. I used my two limbs and ran it across everything that was near my crotched form. Since I couldn't see, I had to rely on my sense of touch.
And soon, I had grown successful.
While bringing my hand slightly forward, moving it to a spot located right beside father's desk, I was able to pick up a skinny and long cable cord, one that I immediately grabbed once I felt it.
I smiled happily upon that. "Oh thank kami." I whispered quietly to myself in the darkness but soon, picked myself up so I was standing again. Now with the long cord held within my one hand, I pulled the beginning of it towards the laptop that now rested on father's desk, my fingers locating the correct space to place the long device in so it can charge it.
So, with a push, I managed to place the charger piece back into father's laptop, officially covering my tracks.
I blew out a deep breath at that, quickly glancing back over at my father.
I watched in the darkness as his body shifted a bit but his snores were constant, indicating he was in a very deep sleep which made me feel even more content.
I blew out another breath, a weight of some kind lifting from my boulders.
I smiled.
Finally, that's all done...
