Men and Dogs
(A/n)
Thanks RavenRunning for finding more art of Heat for me! I absolutely adore this one of him and Killer~ Also, thanks for all the comments guys! I love them and it gives me a better idea of what you guys are liking and what I can improve on. It's much appreciated!
"This big?" Kid motioned with his hands and whispered when Heat wasn't paying attention.
"Kid I'm not playing this game with you." You warned.
Vivi was more than a little shocked when you came down to your dorm for a change of real clothes and your dog. She wasn't expecting you to have an entire entourage tagging along and while they were waiting for you to get changed in the living room, she followed you to your room for details. Of course she was bouncing around with excitement when you told her you and Heat had gotten together.
Now Heat had Meatloaf and was being tugged along by the happy pup a little ahead of you while the other guys were walking in a tight group around you. It looked like you had your own personal dog walker and body guards. Except you didn't want the body guards. They were entirely too noisy, nosey, and down right obnoxious today. Poor Heat couldn't do anything to help you, he didn't realize they'd turn into a bunch of gossiping highschool girls once you got together.
"C'mon, just tell me and I'll leave you be."
You sighed. It wasn't like Heat wasn't impressive, there was no way he'd be embarrassed about his size and you were tired of Kid already.
"Fine." You hissed and turned to face the group, walking backwards so Heat wouldn't get too far ahead.
He grinned as you caved but the look quickly morphed into something more horrified as you motioned the approximate size.
"There's no fucking way. You're bullshitting me."
"Nope, totally serious."
"Now you know Kid, leave her be." Killer chastised his friend. You wished he would have said something sooner but he had to have been curious too. You'd never understand men.
You mouthed a thank you to Killer as Kid decided to listen and drop it. It was a good thing he was done bothering you too, you'd arrived at the park and it was teeming with people and dogs. It'd be the end of you if someone overheard such a conversation.
The three men wandered off to go do whatever three college age men do at a dog park without a dog; fuck with other people's dogs. You weren't their mom and you could claim that you didn't know them, so you let them have at it. If they got chewed out by some annoyed owner it'd be all on them.
You took the chance to trot up to Heat now that the others were occupied. The second you were beside him, he held out his hand for you to hold and you gladly took it.
"Sorry about them. I didn't realize they'd be like this." He said sheepishly.
"I'm sure they'll get over it soon enough." You giggled. "They're just excited about us for some reason."
Heat let Meatloaf off the leash and he darted off to go find his friend Bepo. The big ball of fluff was off playing with a stick by himself when your pup tumbled over to him. He no longer had his cone on, he'd proved he could keep from bothering his cast but when he moved too fast he'd trip himself up. It never stopped him though.
"That's because you're my first real girlfriend." He blushed, looking a little embarrassed to admit that.
"But that wasn't your first time, right?" You asked, puzzled. You'd been with a virgin before and could easily confirm that Heat was no two pump chump. No man did that well his first time.
You passed by Bepo's owner and gave him a wave. He nodded back, like usual, and went back to reading a textbook he had in his lap.
"No. I've been with a few other women, but none that wanted to make anything last." Heat watched the small exchange and sat with you at the same bench you always sat at.
"Oh." That was a bit sad. He was sweet and caring, you couldn't imagine someone not falling for him before you.
"It's not so bad though, you were worth the wait."
Fuck. That was so sweet and he said it so naturally that you couldn't stop the way it made you smile.
"You know, we could almost thank Kid for this."
"No way." Heat smiled.
"Oh yeah. If he wasn't so noisy when he came in the shop I wouldn't have been such a klutz."
"Huh." He leaned back, resting his elbows on the table behind him as he watched Meatloaf and Bepo play. "Maybe you're right, you're not a klutz though."
"If you say so." You said playfully.
Killer had apparently found a tennis ball lying around and was tossing it for a whole pack of dogs to chase down and bring back to him. At the same time, Kid and Wire were tossing a stick back and forth with a great dane jumping between them in hopes of snatching it out of the air.
"Do you ever feel like you're parenting a bunch of kids?" You felt like the trip to the park was more for their sake than Meatloaf's.
"More often than I'd like to admit, but Killer isn't too bad."
"Yeah. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders."
You shared a content smile before he motioned to your dog park acquaintance sitting under his tree.
"You know him?"
"Yes and no?" You kicked your feet and they scraped against the ground. "His dog and Meatloaf are best friends but neither of us are keen on strangers so we have this unspoken agreement to just not talk I guess? We just kinda say hi and leave it at that, I don't even know his name."
"Kid's going to lose it when he sees him here." Heat sighed, already thinking about how he'd have to control his friend.
"Do they not get along?"
"The guy's name's Law and he and Kid got into a bit of friendly competition at a party not long after we moved here. Kid lost and you know how he is when he loses."
"He's worse than a five year old."
Heat nodded. "And apparently Law was happy to rub it in his face so now they're constantly at each other's throats."
"That's more than a little stupid, they should really get over it." You laughed while Heat smiled.
"Hey." He suddenly perked up. "Do we want to go do something else?"
"Like what?"
"They're all busy, we could take Meatloaf and just leave."
You snorted. "Give them the good ol' Irish goodbye?"
"Yeah."
"What about Kid and Law?"
"Killer can take care of them."
"That sounds perfect." You fell into a fit of giggles as you tried to get your dog's attention without making any noise.
He bounded over without a single complaint and the other guys saw nothing. As soon as you had him leashed up, you and Heat were sneaking out, earning an odd look from Law. But he didn't say anything as he noted your mischievous smiles and fast paced walk.
As soon as you were sure the guys didn't see you leave and there was a good amount of distance between the park and you, you spoke up again.
"How long until you think they notice we're gone?"
"I'd give it an hour." He took the leash from you when he noticed Meatloaf was tugging. While you struggled when he did that, Heat had no problem handling the pup.
"So we've got a bit over an hour to kill until they come looking for us, what's the plan?"
He scratched the back of his head thoughtfully. "Videogames?"
"A man after my own heart."
----
Vivi was gone of course. It seemed like she was out every weekend and now, you were grateful for that. Besides your dog and Karoo, you had the place to yourself. The guys couldn't just barge in your place so it was the better option for hiding yourselves away from them.
You two were taking advantage of the quiet time and were sprawled out on the couch together. Heat was laying on his back and you were on top of him, laying on your belly with your chin on his chest. Meatloaf had gotten situated among your tangled legs while Karoo sat comfortably in the middle of your back. It was one big, happy cuddle puddle with you in the middle.
Heat had your DS and was playing one of your many Pokemon games. You'd played the series since you were little and just couldn't bring yourself to stop while he'd never touched the series. So he was getting a chance to now. At the same time, you were using his switch to play animal crossing and giving him tips as he played his game.
You were esctatic when you noticed he had animal crossing. It had been ages since you'd thought about that game and it was a great one to goof off with.
"What's a ralts?" Heat murmured into your hair.
"Psychic, they're good against fighting and I think poison types."
"It's cute."
You giggled. "You should catch it then."
"Is that how you build your team, whatever's cutest?" He poked at your cheek.
"Asks the guy who picked mudkip because it reminded him of Meatloaf."
"I named it after him too."
"Now that's cute."
Your dog crawled his way up your back at the mention of his name, nudging Karoo to the side as he sniffed around your heads. The duck let out an annoyed quack and settled back down.
"Ugh, Meatloaf, you're too heavy for this." You groaned and your spine popped.
Heat was about to shoo him off so you weren't crushed under him, but a rough knock at the door did the trick. Your hour was up.
"Noooooo." You whispered as your dog barked at the door.
After another knock, you half raised yourself off of Heat.
"Uh, who is it?"
"You know damn well who it is shrimp!" Kid barked back. It was like he and Meatloaf were competing.
"Sorry there's no one by that name here at the moment!"
Heat chuckled under you, his whole frame shaking.
"Are you two fucking?"
You paused before answering. "Yes?"
The door swung open as Kid let himself in, Killer and Wire following behind. Wire looked bored while Killer had an almost amused expression.
You'll never guess who we met at the dog park." Killer said.
They completely ignored the position you two were in and crowded the living room, Kid taking up the only other seating while the other two made themselves comfortable on the floor. Meatloaf and Karoo started making their rounds, greeting everyone individually.
"No idea." Heat knew very well who, but he was having a good time making a game of it as he continued to focus on catching Pokemon.
"La–"
"Fucking Law!" Kid cut Killer off.
"Ohhhh the guy with the cute white dog." You added. "Yeah, he seems like a decent guy."
"He and Kid got into it." Wire was goofing off with Karoo, scratching under his bill.
"He looks fine." You didn't see any marks on Kid.
"That's because I broke it up." Killer said.
"See? Told you he would." Heat ruffled your hair lovingly as you slid to the floor. Cuddling up was fine and dandy, but not around his friends.
"He wanted to know why we were there without a dog." Killer began explaining. "And when we said we were, we couldn't actually find said dog, or his owner."
"We looked like fucking idiots." Kid spat.
"Well I did say just Heat and I guys." You shrugged, fighting back a giggle.
"She's got a point. We are idiots." Wire said, still looking as bored as when he entered the place.
"So as far as Law knew, you guys were there to play with other people's dogs and called you out for it." Heat summarized.
And the funny thing was, Law saw you leave and either he didn't draw the connection that you were one big group, or was just happy to antagonize Kid. You were content to think it was the latter.
"Caught a shroomish." Heat said, brushing a hand along your arm to earn your attention.
"Ohhhhh I love that one."
"You guys don't even care." Kid slumped into his seat, exasperated.
He never looked more like a pouting child than in that moment and you fell into a fit of laughter as he tried to justify himself. You could see why Heat hung around with these guys, even if they were a lot sometimes. You couldn't remember the last time you had so much fun.

For those that don't know, an Irish goodbye is when you just up and leave. No goodbyes or anything, just fuckin' go.
