She is twelve when her mother passes in their apartments in the Red Keep after an illness that leaves her bound to her bed for nearly two weeks. She is fifteen when her uncle, the Spring Prince, dies and her cousin is named heir to the Iron Throne and Prince of Dragonstone in favor over her nephew. She is nineteen when Queen Aemma dies in childbirth.

Princess Shyra Targaryen has always been on the precipice of something horrifying. The Stranger is at her side since she was born. Her family is littered in loss and heartbreak and it goes deep into her bones until her very heart. Perhaps the only one who can deny the Stranger, she thinks, is her older sister Rhaenys, who has stood at her side since she had been born.

The two daughters of Prince Aemon Targaryen and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon are as night and day. One looks like the Dragonlords of Valyria of old, the other like the Storm Kings who had lived amongst the cliffs. One named in the tradition on House Targaryen, the other of House Baratheon.

And yet, there is one thing they have in common: they are Targaryens. Made for the flight, and the fall.
