Chapter 1- Secrets Secrets Are No Fun.
Roman skipped happily down the orphanage hall. Since he was now 13, he began his training for the Glacia royal guard. It was the one thing he dreamed of since he was small. He saw them as brave protectors, which is what he wanted to be to the kids in the orphanage. Especially for the person he was going to see.
He finally came to a door that was covered in faded crayon drawings on it of dragons, witches, shields, and swords. He gave two small knocks alerting the people inside of his arrival before beginning to turn the lock. Though the motion was abruptly stopped by a pained shout from inside.
"D-Don't come in!"
He'd recognize that voice anywhere for, it belonged to his twin. But the boy's protest only made Roman more worried. So instead of listening he opened the door.
Well Roman wasn't quite sure what he was expecting, but this sure wasn't it. His shirtless brother was sitting on the normally pristine white carpet, that is it would be without the pool of blood.
"What happened here!?" Roman asked worriedly.
"Nothing much, how's your day?" He asked trying to change the subject.
"Remus, please! Where did that blood come from?" Roman asked moving to look for wounds.
"It's really nothing, I'm good. Anyways didn't you start your training today? I'm proud of you." Remus smiled not noticing his brother's advance.
"Remus! It isn't nothing! Where is your left wing!?" He shrieked noticing the gash where his wing used to be. The cut was deep and went halfway down his back.
"Oh that? I cut it off, now enough about me today's about you," Remus replied like it was nothing at all. But in reality he was in immense pain.
"We have to take you to a hospital or something!" He began rambling anxiously.
"NO!! I-I mean if you're gonna do something grab the first aid kit," He suggested quickly trying to avoid others knowing for now.
"Fine, but after I bandage you up we need to talk." Roman argued leaving towards the bathroom.
He came back to see Remus placing a necklace around his neck.
"Where'd you get that?" Roman asked him taking out a wet washcloth and bandages.
Remus didn't answer him. He just stared down at the wing shaped pendant. It was a very beautiful necklace with its perfect white wing-shaped center with its pastel green accents and a thin silver chain.
Roman began cleaning the gash with the occasional wince from Remus until he was all bandaged up and fully dressed. They sat in silence waiting for the other to say something.
"So..." Remus began awkwardly.
"So, why'd you do it?" Roman asked sternly.
"I can't tell you, but it wasn't for anything bad I promise." Remus said honestly to his twin.
"Why can't you tell me?" He asked confused. When there was no immediate answer he continued, "Secrets, secrets are no fun, tell me now or else we're done!"
"I made a promise Roman! That's why I can't tell you." He yelled tears forming in his eyes.
The sight of his brother upset hurt Roman. He was supposed to be strong and protect his family, not make him upset. He leapt forward wrapping his arms around his brother tightly forgetting about the injury.
"Ow Roman, injury!" He hissed behind his teeth.
"Sorry! You don't need to tell me if it makes you upset, I just want you to be happy." He whispered through the loosened hug.
"Speaking of happy, how's your first day of training?" Remus asked knowing how excited his brother was.
Roman smiled and began his 15 minute story on how his day went. Most would have stopped listening but Remus loved hearing his brother be so excited about something. But then he said something that caught him off guard.
"...I asked her and she said she would let you train with me-" Roman said happily but was cut off by Remus's surprised yell.
"You did what!?"
"Oh! Well what I said was-" But he was once again cut off.
"No I heard what you said but, what I'm asking is why?" Remus asked with a dumbfounded expression.
"Because I'm selfish and want my brother around while I live my dream, obviously." Roman said matter-of-factly.
"Pft okay I guess I can. I don't have much else to do," Remus chuckled out.
"Roman! Remus!" A small girl called out.
"Yes Emma?" Roman called back for her reply.
"It's time to come eat!" She yelled from behind their door.
"Alright we'll be there in a second," Remus answered beginning to stand up.
"What are you gonna say if they ask about your wing?" Roman asked him concerned.
"Well it's simple really, I'll tell them the truth. I mean I cut it off they should know." He replied like it was the only solution around. They both left the room and turned for the cafeteria not exactly sure what the others reactions would be but it didn't matter because they had each other.
First legitimate chapter done, kinda cheesy ending but who cares?
Hoped you enjoyed and have a nice day! 💚
