Sans, Grillby, and Frisk all sat down at the table as Chara passed plates and silverware to all of them. Soon after everyone was seated, Sans couldn't help glancing over at Grillby, who was humming again and looked pretty happy. The skeleton didn't realize he was staring at him until Frisk raised an eyebrow at him, mouthing "Are you going to eat, or are you going to make goo-goo eyes at the candle the whole time he's here?" Sans began to blush a bit, and only blushed more when Grillby looked over at him, smiling shyly. He quickly looked away, not wanting to look like he was staring even though he was. The fire monster chuckled a bit at his friend's shyness, although he didn't know why he was so awkward all of a sudden. He decided not to question it. Papyrus, Chara and Frisk were chatting it up. "This is really good, you guys!" Grillby chirped. He had been in a strangely positive mood lately, but nobody was about to complain. Papyrus and Chara smiled at him. "Thanks!" they both said at the same time. They looked at each other for a few seconds, then just started giggling and blushing like idiots. Sans smiled — maybe Papyrus already liked Chara back, but was just afraid to show it. He was a very emotional monster behind his usual loud, extroverted personality, and had even written love notes before for his school crushes when he was a kid. Sans had always liked to read them behind his back to see what Papyrus was capable of writing, and it was always astonishing. Nobody gave Papyrus much credit for his intelligence. Most thought he wasn't very sharp at all. But the way he wrote was like a poet would — passionate, beautiful, and enough to make a stone blush. He could make anybody fall in love with notes like that. Sans never told Papyrus that he read them, since it might embarrass him, but he still admired his brother's emotional side. Maybe I can ask him for advice on writing Grillbz a love note... he thought as he ate quietly. He blushed and smiled a bit, thinking of Grillby again. A perfect smile, such a cute laugh, a golden heart, and such a warm touch... Sans had to use all his willpower in order to not start grinning like a completely lovestruck dope again. He looked up and noticed that Grillby was looking at him. He quickly looked away, a red blush crossing his face, and Sans smiled awkwardly. "Oh my God, you two are such dorks..." Chara laughed. Sans and Grillby looked up at her with the exact same expression.
"Don't act like I don't notice you two," she said with a small giggle. Sans cast a glance over at his little brother, who was looking at Chara with that same dreamlike look in his eyes. Grillby snapped a photo with his phone, and Sans smirked a little bit, which caught the daydreaming skeleton's attention. Papyrus sat up straight, face flushing orange with embarrassment, and looked at his brother with a look that said "If you tell her that I like her I swear to Asgore I will destroy you". Sans shook his head with a small laugh and looked back at Grillby, who was almost done eating. The flames on his head crackled contently, and Papyrus looked over at his brother, noticing the look in his eyes. He raised his eyebrows and smirked, and if they had been sitting next to each other Sans would have elbowed him in the ribs. But they were sitting across from each other, so instead he just kicked him in the shin. Papyrus winced and laughed a bit. Frisk stood up and put their plate in the sink, then went into the living room to practice their dancing so they could beat Papyrus' high score on Just Dance. Chara wrote on a paper and slid it across the table to Sans. He read it and blushed. The paper read "Hey comedian, why don't you ask Grillby here out for nice cream? I know he likes it, and a cute classic thing like that might be enough of a nudge to let him know you like him. After all, we wouldn't want you to be BONELY!" Sans chuckled at the human's pun, and put the paper in his pocket, nodding in Chara's direction to signify he would consider the idea. "Consider", ha, I'm already trying to figure out how to ask him... he thought as he finished his lunch. He noticed Grillby was done too, and smiled in his direction. "I'll clear your plate, Grillbz," he said cheerfully. Grillby smiled again, making Sans blush. Why did he have to be so fucking cute?! "Thanks, Sans!" he said, passing the skeleton his plate. Sans carefully put them in the sink, not wanting to break something, then sat down on the couch next to Papyrus and Grillby. When are you two going to kiss already? Papyrus thought. Sans must have read his eyes, because his face turned entirely blue. Grillby, who wasn't as good at reading people as the skelebros were, looked over at the small skeleton in confusion. "Are you alright, Sans? Your face is all blue, and you're shaking." He didn't understand why Sans was so nervous all of a sudden, but wanted to help. Sans looked up, trying not to let his pupils take on a heart shape like he feared they would, and like they had before when Sans thought about the fire elemental, which was a lot.
"Y-yeah, Grillbz, I'm alright... heh, nothing's gettin' under my skin~" Papyrus facepalmed, and the humans and Grillby laughed. "BROTHER, WHY?!" Papyrus exclaimed. Sans winked. "What, am I rattling you with all these jokes?" "JESUS CHRIST SANS!!!" Papyrus cried. Sans kept the jokes coming. "Oh come on, Paps, throw me a bone here!" "STAHP!!!" Papyrus shouted. Chara was practically dying. "HUMANS, DON'T ENCOURAGE HIM!! GRILLBY, STOP LAUGHING!" Grillby was laughing again. "Oh come on, Papyrus! What, are you going to have a bone to pick with us?" he said. Papyrus did a double-facepalm. "NOT YOU TOO!!!" he cried out. Sans felt proud. "Ayyyy!! I guess I really enlightened you with all those jokes I tell!" "OH MY GOD WILL YOU SHUT UP?!" Papyrus shouted. Grillby smirked. "And I thought I was hot-headed!" "OH MY FUCKING GOD GRILLBY!!!" the skeleton exclaimed. He was clearly not having the best time. Frisk and Chara were doubling over. Sans and Grillby high-fived. "Tibia honest, this is pretty fun~" Grillby said with a small laugh. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!" Papyrus cried. He stood up and threw his hands into the air. "THAT'S IT, I'M DONE!" He walked up the stairs and into his room, slamming the door loudly. Sans and Grillby high-fived. "Nailed it!" Sans laughed. Grillby laughed too, and Frisk and Chara gave the two monsters a thumbs-up. "Nailed it indeed!" Frisk laughed. Chara smirked at Sans and gave him a look that said "So are you gonna ask him out or not?" Sans smiled nervously, and Grillby got up. "I really should be going, my lunch break is nearly over," he said. Sans got a spike of confidence, and grabbed his sleeve gently. Grillby blushed and looked back. "Hm? What is it, Sans?" he asked. Sans smiled a little bit. "Hey, uh, Grillbz, would you wanna grab some nice cream after work today?" he asked shyly. Grillby smiled. "I would love to, Sans! I'll meet you outside after my shift is done. Bye guys!" he chirped, looking happy and with a light blush on his face. Sans blushed again, and smiled and waved as his friend left. "Bye Grillbz! See ya later!" "Later!" Frisk called. "Bye!" Chara said, before looking back at Sans. "Was that really that hard, comedian?" she asked. Sans smiled a little. "I guess not. I'm really happy he said yes!" he said, not being able to resist smiling like a complete idiot. Frisk patted his shoulder. "First date successful! You're getting places!" they told the skeleton. Papyrus peeked out of his room, having been eavesdropping on his friends' conversation. He actually did that quite a bit. "Congratulations, brother! You're going out with the person you love!" he exclaimed cheerfully. Sans smiled as Papyrus came downstairs and gave him a tight hug. He hugged back, of course, that big smile still on his face. He couldn't wait for the evening.
