Sans woke up in his bed, tucked in neatly. Papyrus must have brought me home again... jeez, what happened last night...? he thought to himself as he got up. He had drank too much to remember. He opened the door and saw that Chara and Frisk were playing Just Dance while Papyrus sat on the couch with a cup of coffee, watching. He went over to the banister. Chara heard his footsteps and turned her head. "Mornin' comedian!" she said cheerfully. She seemed happy today. Frisk waved, not taking their eyes off the game, and Papyrus turned his head to make eye contact with his older brother. "Good morning, Sans! You passed out at Grillby's again, so I, the Great Papyrus, was called to bring you back home again! Nyeh heh heh!" Sans smiled. Pap was the coolest. "Thanks, bro," he said cheerfully. He jumped on the banister, slid down, and jumped off, landing perfectly on his feet with a proud expression. Chara's eyes sparkled. "You have to teach me how to do that!" she exclaimed. Sans chuckled. "Sure, kid, I'll teach ya. After I have some breakfast, that is. How long did I sleep?" Papyrus smiled and passed his brother a cup of coffee and a plate of pancakes. "We woke up just about an hour ago. It's only 11, Sans." The skeleton smiled again. "Good to know. Thanks for the food, Paps. You're the best!" He sat down next to his brother on the couch, still happy. Memories of Grillby ran through his mind, making him smile like a lovestruck idiot. Which is exactly what I am, he thought. A lovestruck idiot for a walking candle. But such a cute walking candle... His mind started to drift, and he was brought back to reality by Frisk snapping their fingers in his face. "Earth to Sans, anybody there?" they said with a small giggle. Chara saw the dopey look on Sans' face and smirked. "Oh, I know that look~" she teased. Sans blushed. "What look?" Chara giggled again. "I know that look in your eyes, comedian. You have a crush on someone, don't you?~" Sans knew there was nothing he could hide from this kid. He rubbed the back of his head. "You got me, Chara..." he said, still smiling like an idiot at the image of Grillby's cheerful, adorable smile. Chara smiled. "I knew it." Papyrus looked over at his brother. "So, brother, who is it? I'm so happy that you're finally in love with someone!" Papyrus had always hoped his brother would fine someone he loved, and now it was happening. Sans smiled again, looking down. "One word; fire." Frisk covered their mouth, and their eyes widened and lit up like a goddamn Christmas tree. "Oh my god! It's Grillby, isn't it?! That's the cutest thing I've ever heard, oh my god!!" Sans blushed again, embarrassed. "Bingo, kid." Chara smiled.
"We'll give ya tips, comedian, no worries!" she said happily. She looked over at Papyrus, who was covering his mouth and making fanboy noises. "SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE!!!" he squeaked. Chara laughed, a cute blush on her face. "Your brother has entered Fanboy Mode, all systems are go," she joked. Sans looked over at Papyrus, who was still squealing. "Come on, bro, it's completely normal..." "IT'S SO CUTE I CAN'T TAKE THE CUTE!!!" Papyrus said, making more squeaking sounds. Sans laughed and facepalmed, embarrassed. "Paps, calm down, you're gonna explode!" Papyrus nodded quickly. "YES I AM GOING TO EXPLODE, THE GREAT PAPYRUS CANNOT HANDLE THIS CUTENESS!!" While he kept squealing, his brother looked up and saw Chara looking at Papyrus with a dreamy look in her eyes. Looks like I'm not the only one in this house with a crush, he thought, and raised his eyebrow at Chara to signify he knew how she felt about his brother. Chara's blush went from 0-100 very fast, and she tugged Sans into the other room. "Listen, I really do like him. Like, a ton. More than I've ever liked anyone else in the world. I would really appreciate if you helped me, in exchange for me helping you." Sans smiled. "I trust you, kid. You seem like you would make Paps really happy. He already enjoys your company. I'll help you win him over. So, wanna hear how to get on his good side?" Chara tightened her grip on the skeleton's shoulders. Her eyes turned red and burned with passion. "Does it look like I do?" Sans nodded with a laugh. "Indeed it does. Listen, the quickest way to a skeleton's heart is through music. If you want to win over my little bro, you gotta serenade him. Be sweet, be direct. Papyrus is an emotional person, no matter how much he hates to admit it, so passionate wordings really get to him." Chara smiled. "I know the perfect song. Thanks a ton, Sans!" Sans nodded. "No problemo, pal." They went back into the living room to find that Papyrus had calmed down and had begun a match of Just Dance with Frisk. Sans sat down with his breakfast to watch, and his thoughts about Grillby came flooding back. He put a hand on his heart, sighing a little like the lovestruck sack of bones he was, before eating his pancakes and drinking his coffee. Chara put headphones on and listened to music on her phone. And Papyrus beat Frisk's high-score on Just Dance.
Later that day, Sans decided to call up Grillby to practice asking him out, but in more of a friendly manner this time around. Frisk had encouraged him to, but it was Papyrus who had convinced him that he wouldn't fuck it up within three seconds. He dialled the fire elemental's number in and waited. After one goddamn ring, he was already thinking things like: Is he ignoring me? Am I being too obsessive? Does he think I'm clingy? Is he okay? But those thoughts went away (mostly) when Grillby picked up the phone. "Hello?" he asked. Sans was tempted to hang up right then, but managed to stay on the line. "H-hey G-Grillbz!" he stammered. Grillby sounded happy to hear him. "Oh, Sans! Good to hear that you're alright. What did you want to say?" Sans shut his eyes, as if that would help, and said what he needed to say quickly. "Would-you-like-to-come-over-for-lunch-today-if-you-don't-have-any-plans-that-is?" He took a moment to catch his breath, hoping that came out right. Grillby laughed a bit. "You seem a bit nervous. Sure, I'll come over! See you soon, Sans!~" He hung up the phone with a chirpy voice, and Sans was using all his willpower to not have a heart attack, so much so that he couldn't even move. His entire face was a deep ocean blue, his pupils had vanished and he was shaking so badly that if he were a soda can he would have exploded like a nuclear bomb. "Chill out, Sans, you did it! Everything is okay now! This counts kinda as a first date, right Chara?" Frisk said. Chara nodded. "Technically, asking someone to lunch constitutes as a date. Now, Master Chefs Papyrus and Chara shall prepare a lunch for you!~" She hopped up and grabbed a chef hat, placing one on Papyrus' head and one on hers. Papyrus smiled and struck a proud pose. "I think I'll try something different! Undyne taught me how to make casserole last week, and a salad is a nice side!" he said happily. Chara pumped her fist and ran over to the counter, looking over the recipe with Papyrus and grabbing the ingredients they needed. Queen Toriel had a garden of fresh fruits and veggies, and she always gave them out to her friends and hungry citizens, so the Skelebro household never ran out of those. Chara picked a knife from the knife block and swiftly started chopping up iceberg lettuce. Frisk quickly took a single leaf from the head of lettuce, washed it off and ate it. They were known for doing that.
Chara took it into her business to chop up different kinds of vegetables — carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce — and wash them off before throwing them in a salad bowl, before helping Papyrus with the casserole. She handed him ingredients whenever he asked, then got a nice cream out of the freezer, which gave Sans an idea. Maybe he could ask Grillby out to get some ice cream later — it technically counted as a date but it still didn't put their friendship on the line. Papyrus and Chara were still cooking when a knock came at the door, and Sans had a mini panic attack. Frisk practically shoved him to the door. "Answer it, you lovestruck idiot, you're not going to self-destruct," they insisted. Sans calmed down a bit. "I make no promises about that last thing," he said quietly, hoping whoever was at the door didn't hear their conversation. Sans opened the door to see Grillby cheerfully standing outside. "Hi, Sans! Hi, everyone!" he called. He was in another good mood today. Papyrus and Chara looked over and waved. "Hi Grillby! Glad you could make it!" Chara called. Frisk shook his hand. "Nice to see you again!" they chirped. Grillby smiled, always having liked the human's friendly demeanour. He looked down at Sans with a cheerful smile, and Sans tried to ignore the blush on his face as he signalled for the fire elemental to come inside. "M-make yourself at home!" he said cheerfully, wanting to kick himself for stuttering. Grillby didn't seem to notice, though, and began to take off his coat. Chara took it off for him. "I'll get the coat, you're our guest. Sit down for a while, lunch will be ready in a minute or two!" she said cheerfully. Grillby nodded shyly and sat down on the couch, humming a bit. Sans sat with him, listening to the monster sing. After a minute, Grillby realized he was listening and blushed. "U-um..." he stammered awkwardly. Sans smiled. "You have a nice singing voice, you know~" he said smoothly, trying to be flirty. The fire monster smiled, trying to push back the bright red blush on his face. "Heh, thanks, Sans..." he said shyly. Frisk peeked into the living room from the kitchen. Holy shit, kiss already, they thought. Right as they were about to say something, Papyrus called, "Lunch is ready! Nyeh heh heh!"
