16: A Brutal Murder
Fatima Zarah tried to smile at Rahma but rather, it came out as a lopsided grin. She looked up at Al-mustapha and tried peeling her hands away from him, "I think I'll let you two be, I'll be at Mama Fulani's chamber when you're done." Because the moment she had set her eyes on Rahma, she felt the girl wasn't the type she wanted to interact with.
There are certain people in this life that by mere seeing them you'd feel like you don't want to have an interction with them, be it for a few minutes. And it's not always about hatred. She thought Al-mustapha would like what she did, but instead of him to let go of her hands as she initialy started, he held onto it and she looked at him questioningly.
"There's no need for that, Fatima Zarah. You said you're tired already, right? Then let's leave together to Mama Fulani's chamber." She had noticed that ever since he stared at Rahma for once, he hadn't done that the second time, and she wondered why. The throng of people accompanying them had their eyes fixed on the trio, waiting to see what would unveil between them.
Rahma smiled mischieviously and she placed her hand on Fatima Zarah's shoulder. "I don't think by my name you know who I am, I'll set this clear for you. I'm the lovelies daughter of the Sultan, and ever since I grew up, I've gotten everything I wanted apart from your husband. So, I'll say this; you're in for a battle of love, together with the Royal gem." She glared at Fatima Zarah and she shrugged her hands off her shoulders.
Fatima Zarah made a face and looked up at Al-mustapha, even though she was standing right by his side, with her shoulders brushing off with his chest, he was so tall that she had to look up while addressing him. "Al-mustapha, I'm so tired. Can you please take this piece out of my way or we leave instead? Because I'm not in for a battle for something I've already attained and have locked in my own territory."
He nodded his head and Fatima Zarah stared at Rahma's face with a smirk on her lips, "May be you can find someone to escort you to the battle field, but never Fatima Zarah Tambuwal, because I already have what you're going to fight for, why stoop so low and fight for it? Doesn't make sense, yeah? Think twice about it, Royal Gem." She could see the effect of her words splashed all over Rahma's face and when they walked from her, she could swear the girl turned to her back and watched them until they disappeared from her sight.
Fatima Zarah was taken to a different room when they got back and she later learned that it was Al-mustapha's room when he was a little boy. There was nothing to call home about in the room, but it truly depicted the life of a boy. Even though she was surprise because she hadn't seen anything that showed he was a teen when he had the room. She thought all guys either had stickers of their favorite musicians or footballers fixed on their walls and other ornaments; or so they thought of the things as ornaments. But in the room, the only thing that could truly show he had lived in the room were the tons of garment filled in his wardrobe, and Fatima Zarah wondered while they weren't given out.
Snacks and refreshments were brought to her, and to her surprise she saw Sadiya walking in with the tray. "Oh, Sadiya, how did you came back here? I thought you said you're going to be our helps over there?"
Sadiya bowed down her head with a smile, "Mama Fulani felt that if we get attached to you by any chnace, we might not do our reporting job properly, that's why she said she'll be sending a set of two people for the cost of those seven days and will later on choose whom she wants to be there permanently."
"Oh, that's fine then." Was only the thing Fatima Zarah could say, because she had seen no reason for the supervisors Mama Fulani sent them, it's not like they were little kids to start with.
"Gimbiya, I really think you've angered the Royal gem over there," Sadiya said with a shaky voice and when Fatima Zarah looked at her, she smiled and waved at her dismissively.
"That's not for you to worry, okay? Thanks for the snacks, I'll enjoy them." She took off her thobe and prayed before she sat down and peacefully began eating her snacks.
While she was at it, she heard Al-mustapha's voice around the room as he asked where she was and the miads told him that she was in his room. She sat down unmoving, peacefully eating her snacks as if she wasn't full of curiousity of why he came from wherever the hell he was, looking for her. When the doorknob turned and he came into the room with a faint salam on his lips, she answered back and didn't look up to meet his gaze.
"Someone took a package home and said it was for you, is it?" The guards had told and informed him, because they couldn't accept the package yet. And when they calle dhim, he didn't have her number for him to ask wether it was really hers or not, he had to come back to Mama Fulani's chamber to look for her, something he hated with passion. Spending alot of time in Mama Fulani's chamber, the maids over there were just too much that they made his head spin.
"Yes it's for me." Came her short reply as she ducked her head down, staring at everything but his face. Now that they were out of eyesight and earshot, they would automatically turn to the real humans they were, and she saw no reason to act up.
"I thought all your things have been taken there since last week? What do you have in there now?" He asked, because one thing he hated the most about getting married at first were having his things mixed together with that of a total stranger all in the name of companionship. And he hated too much of unimportant things, because he was surely going to throw alot of her things out, they had no reason whatsoever being kept in his house.
"I think we aren't in a court, nor are we in your fave place; the station for you to interrogate me this much. They're my things, my valuable assests, and there's no better place for me to keep them but there. I think this is the best answer you need. I need to take a nap please, close the door for me when you're gone." She stood up from the floor and hopped onto the bed. Yesterday night she didn't have enough sleep, that couch was the least comfortable place to sleep on, and she'd not sleep on that thing today.
Al-mustapha looked at her through his thick eyelashes and smiled before he walked out of the room, leaving the door. The maids closed it behind him and Fatima Zarah glared at his retreating back. She hated that man, she wished there was a way out of seeing his face everyday. Later in the evening, after the walima was done, they went back home and the first thing she did was rushing to her package and she opened it.
"Lily!" she exclaimed, when she brought out a white cat with touches of light brown on it. She chuckled when the cat snuggled on her body and even though she hated the gurgling sound their stomach made sometimes, she couldn't be more elated. "Lucy! Oh dear, I'm sorry you two were nearly suffocated in this. Ammi didn't thought of making some holes for you two to breathe from. We're home now, this is our new home, okay?" She kept fondling their body and caressing their soft skin, while smiling widely.
From where he stood by the car, he watched her intently and he went into the house without uttering a word out, only for him to come out with a sharp knife in his hand. He walked over to Fatima Zarah, where she was kneeling with the two huge and beautiful cats clutched to her chest, and without a word, Fatima Zarah felt as he forcefully took Lily out of her hands.
"What do you think you're doing, Al-mustapha?!" She asked and watched as he moved to a nearby drainage with Lily carelessly held in his hand. She followed him until he stopped moving and the next thing she saw was, he held down Lily on the ground and his sharp knife got into her throat, then came blood spurting out in a rush.
Fatima Zarah didn't know when she screamed her chest out and she pushed him out of her way, with Lucy still clutched tightly over her chest. "What did you just do? What the hell has gotten into your head?" She wailed, as she took a dying Lily in her shaking hands.
"Don't die, Lily. Please don't die! I'm taking you to a hospital now, okay?" She couldn't believe the body she had just caressed and fell in love with all over again was now drenched in blood and the little creature wasn't struggling anymore. She didn't care about the fact that her clothes were being soiled by Lily's blood, all she wasn't was to unsee what she had just witnessed.
She stood up with both cats clutched to her chest and pulled out his car keys from his breast pocket. "Know that if it dies, this will be the crime I will never forgive you for. And wallahi you must pay for this in the most painful way ever!" She thundered and didn't mind the fact that she was crying painfully right before his eyes, something she had never done. Cry in front of anyone apart from Ammi. Even Ammi hardly saw her tears more than five times, the sixth time was yesterday.
She walked towards the car and before she reached it, she heard his voice as he addressed the guards. "Seargents, no one should leave this house until tomorrow, and that should only be me. You aren't allowed to let her leave without my consent." He walked casually into the house as though something huge hadn't happened, and when Fatima Zarah peeled Lily off her chest, she had noticed it was no more breathing and even if she were to take it to the hospital, nothing would have changed.
She went to the seargents and handed them the body, "Please, bury this cat for me over there. And this, take care of it." She handed them both cats and walked off, back into the house, to his chamber.
Her tears were still flowing unchecked from her soul and she didn't mind clearing them off. She couldn't believe the blood on her body was none other than Lily's and Lily didn't die a natural death. It was killed, brutally by the man that called himself a police officer and a prince. She banged his living room door open and he lay on the resting sofa, watching the television as though nothing happened.
She cleared her tears but more gushed out. No one could understand her pain but the one that had once lost a pet, a pet as loving as a cat, as adorable as Lily was. "Why did you do that?! Why the hell did you kill Lily?!"
He didn't spare her a glance and turned his attention back to the tv. Fatima Zarah forcefully collected the remote control from his hand, turned the tv off and stood in front of him with her chest drenched with blood and her eyes making a downpour. "I asked you, what the freak were you thinking when you killed my pet?!" She thundered.
Even though he seemed untouched by her words, he looked at her as calmly as he could ever do. "I thought you said you're in for the game, and the promise of hell, remember? This is merely but a flicker of the fire I've set for you. Get out of my sight!" He roared at last, pointing the door at her. And Fatima Zarah looked between the door and his face. Not sure about which to set her frail fist on.
