I need you
Over the next few days, Leo remained in the ICU, and I hardly left his side. I managed to get some rest in the on-call room, but my thoughts were always with him.
My team was supportive, understanding the personal nature of this case for me, and they made sure I was kept informed of every change in Leo's condition.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Leo began to regain consciousness. I was sitting by his bed, holding his hand, when I saw his eyelids flutter. My heart leapt into my throat.
"Leo?" I called softly, squeezing his hand. "Can you hear me?"
His eyes opened slowly, and he looked around the room, disoriented. When his gaze finally landed on me, there was a flicker of recognition.
"Alex?" he croaked, his voice barely a whisper.
Tears filled my eyes as I nodded. "Yes, Leo, it's me. You're safe now."
A mixture of emotions crossed his face-confusion, relief, and something else I couldn't quite place. "What... what happened?" he asked, his voice weak.
"You were in a road accident," I explained gently.
"You've been through surgery, but you're going to be okay. You're in the hospital now."
He seemed to process this information slowly, his eyes darting around the room as if trying to piece together the fragments of his memory. "How long?" he finally asked.
"You've been here for a week days," I replied, not wanting to overwhelm him with too much information at once. "But you're safe now. Just focus on getting better."
I squeezed his hand weakly, my eyes filling with tears, but I blinked them away and gave him a big smile. His eyes held something I couldn't quite understand.
I had thought he would be excited to see me, but his expression was different, as if he never wanted to see me again.
I knew I was the reason for this, and I was determined to win him back. I didn't care what he had done in these seven years; he was mine, and no one else could have him.
"Shh, don't talk now. Just rest," I said. "We'll have time to talk later. Just focus on getting better."
Leo nodded slightly, his eyes drifting shut again. But this time, it was different. He was resting, not unconscious. He was healing.
I stayed by his side, holding his hand, my heart filled with a mix of relief and anxiety.
There were so many questions, so many things left unsaid. But for now, all that mattered was that he was here, alive, and with me.
As the days passed, Leo's condition continued to improve. The critical window passed without complications, and he slowly began to regain his strength.
I visited him every day, bringing him food, reading to him, and just sitting by his side, reassuring him that he wasn't alone.
One afternoon, I was returning with food for him, but I saw a little girl and a woman in his room.
My heart sank to see them laughing together. The emptiness that had been in his eyes since he woke up was now gone, replaced with affection. My hands turned into tight fists.
"What's going on in there? Who let them in?" I asked a hospital staff member who was walking out of Leo's room.
"They are his family," he said quickly before leaving in fear. His family? That word cut sharply into my heart.
I pushed the door open and walked in. As expected, as soon as Leo saw me, his expression turned cold.
"You have visitors?" I asked, trying to control my voice. Leo sighed in frustration as he reached out to hold the little girl's hand.
"This is Doctor Alex Kensington. He saved me," he said, looking at them and then at me. He spoke as if I was just a doctor doing my duty. It was so painful to be treated as a stranger by the person who was my entire life.
"This is my daughter Lisa and her teacher Shany," he said. My heart froze when I heard the little girl was his daughter.
He got married and even had a child? It was completely hard for me to accept, but I didn't react instantly.
I looked at the little girl, who seemed to be six or seven years old. Her smile was just like Leo's. I nodded and averted my eyes away from her, then looked at Leo.
"I brought you food. Have it, and it's time for your medicine." I pulled a chair and was about to sit near Leo's bed when he suddenly spoke.
"You don't need to worry about me. Thank you so much for everything up until now, but I'll handle it from here."
I froze for a moment, and before I could speak, Shany quickly approached me and took the food bag from my hand.
"Thank you so much, Doctor, but we don't want to bother you any longer. I'll take care of him from now on." I felt my anger boiling inside me, but I controlled it and nodded. Without another glance, I walked out of the room.
The cold air of the hallway hit me hard, amplifying the storm of emotions inside. I leaned against the wall, trying to calm my racing heart. My mind was flooded with questions and doubts. How had Leo moved on so completely?
The days that followed were a blur. I threw myself into work, trying to distract myself from the pain. But every time I saw Leo's room, I was reminded of the life he had built without me.
One evening, I couldn't take it anymore. I needed answers. I went to Leo's room, hoping to find him alone. To my relief, he was, but he was sleeping.
I didn't wake him up and just sat on a chair near his bed. My eyes scanned his handsome face.
He looked so mature now. Before I realized it, my hand was already on his face, tracing every curve of his features.
I let my fingers brush gently over his forehead, down to his cheeks, and across his jawline.
The years had changed him, but he was still the Leo I had loved so deeply. Memories of our time together flooded my mind, and I felt a mix of longing and sorrow.
How could so much time have passed? How had we drifted so far apart?
Leo stirred slightly, and his eyes slowly opened. He looked at me, and for a moment, there was a flicker of the old familiarity in his gaze. "Alex?" he said, his voice was soft and a bit groggy.
I didn't pull my fingers away. Instead, I rubbed his lower lip, and the sensation was too much to bear. Leo gasped, and I slammed my lips onto his.
As soon as our lips met, every nerve in my body jolted with hunger-hunger of years. In the past seven years, I never touched anyone. Honestly, I didn't even glance at anyone with that intention because it never crossed my mind.
I never felt I needed anyone except Leo. His memories were enough for me to live this life, waiting for him. But now I needed him, I needed him to feel alive again.
Leo placed his hand on my shoulders and tried to push me away, but I didn't let him struggle.
I grabbed his hand and placed it over his head. His other hand was connected to an IV, so he couldn't move it much. I held his head with one hand and looked into his eyes.
"Alex, are you out of your mind?" he groaned in anger as soon as I pulled my lips away.
"Yes, babe, I'm out of my mind," I said, lowering my head to rest on his forehead.
I covered his lips with mine, sucking gently to urge him to open his mouth. Leo hesitated for a moment, but then he opened his mouth and let me in. Our tongues collided in raw, desperate need.
His initial resistance melted away, and soon he was kissing me back with the same intensity.
The years of longing and pain poured into that kiss, a mixture of passion, regret, and a desperate hope for a second chance.
I let my hand slowly move down his body, slipping under his gown until I grasped his dick.
"Alex," he gasped, his body trembling at my touch. His left leg was broken, so there was a cast encasing it, limiting his movements.
Despite the cast and the confines of the hospital room, the electricity between us was palpable.
I stroked him gently, feeling his breath hitch and his body respond to my touch. It had been so long since we had been this close, and the years of longing and pain seemed to melt away in this moment.
"Shh, just let me take care of you," I whispered, leaning in to kiss his neck. Leo's resistance wavered, and he finally let out a soft moan, his hand gripping the bedsheet.
"Alex, we shouldn't..." he began, but his protest was weak, his need betraying his words.
"I need you, Leo," I murmured against his skin. "I've needed you for so long."
