The Hub

"What kind of dream is this?" You wondered aloud as you examined your surroundings, not even sure if you were actually dreaming.

Everything was dark and indistinguishable except for a simple round mirror straight ahead of you.

"The fuck?" You muttered to yourself in confusion as you cautiously crept forward.

You hesitated in front of the mirror, surprised to see that your reflection wasn't staring back at you.

Instinctively you reached out towards the mirror, placing a hand on its cool smooth surface.

In a blink of an eye, your surroundings changed to show a bedroom that felt oddly familiar to your for reasons you didn't understand.

You found you also couldn't remember your name of anything else about you.

"Where am I?" You wondered aloud as you strolled around the bedroom, finding a picture of you laying on the white covered bed much to your confusion.

Next to it sat a simple knife with a black handled knife, the steel blade glinting dangerously in the light above.

You picked it up and felt a wave of depression and darkness wash over you, making you want to embed the blade in your neck and end it all.

You did as your mind wanted you to, falling dead to the floor as a familiar figure appeared in the room.

You appeared back outside the mirror, the surface shattered with a spiderweb of cracks arcing across its once smooth surface.

"My name is (Y/N), I'm a high school student at (Y/S)..." You remembered, unsure how you had forgotten in the first place.

"Wait!"

You whirled around to find the figure that had appeared with you earlier standing behind you.

"M-Mark? Where am I? What's happening?" You barraged the YouTuber with questions, your mind racing with millions of thoughts and questions you wanted the answer to.

"I promise I'll explain, but the terrorlings are coming and I have to keep you safe." Mark interjected, offering a hand towards you.

You hesitated and turned back around, trying to wrap your mind around what was happening.

"Trust me, please!" Mark pleaded, causing your attention to snap back to him.

You started to walk towards him, but was cut off by a horde of pale faced monsters dressed in jeans and hoodies, their eyes hollow and teeth skeletal looking.

"What the hell?!" You exclaimed in surprise, stumbling back before tripping over your own feet and falling onto your butt and starting to scramble back

Just as the creatures advanced towards you, claw-like hands outstretched, you saw a flash of pink behind them before they all disappeared like clouds of smoke.

"Take my hand!" Mark instructed, vibrant pink wings protruding from his shoulder blades that allowed him to hover off of the ground.

You took his hand and felt yourself whisked away in the air, your surroundings turning black once again before you appeared with Mark in a large room filled with what looked like thousands of seats.

"You okay?" Mark asked you with concern shining in his chocolate brown eyes as his wings shrank back into his shoulder blades as if they had never existed.

"I'm fine." You replied absent mindlessly as you examined the room around you in awe.

People of different genders and races with faintly glowing red hearts on their sleeves milled about talking amongst themselves, a few occasionally glancing over at you before returning to their conversation.

"Welcome to the Hub!" Mark announced, pulling you from your amazed stupor.

"The Hub?" You repeated in confusion.

"Alright, let me explain. You're dreaming, but you're still somewhat conscious, allowing you to control your actions. You're part of the Heart-Heroes, my squad of people that go to other people's dreams and rescue them from terrorlings." Mark began as he walked off, you following close behind like a lost puppy.

"You're a Heart-Hero now, meaning that you do what I just did, which is rescue you from terrorlings that take the form of your fears and feed off of your dark thoughts and feelings. You're welcome." Mark continued as he guided you into a library that wasn't as crowded, taking a seat at a stool that was placed in front of a table an motioning for you to sit by him.

"Um, thanks." You replied, still trying to process what was happening.

"So I'm dreaming and not at the same time, and I'm now a hero like you that helps people with depression and stuff by destroying terrorlings that represent their fears?" You summarized skeptically.

"Pretty much." Mark nodded.

"Oh yeah, I totally forgot to ask for your name!" Mark remembered, slapping his forehead with his hand.

"It's okay, my name's (Y/N)." You told him with a shy smile, unable to belief that you were meeting the hero you had looked up to since you were twelve.

"Nice to meet you! You do know me, right?" Mark asked.

"Yeah." You nodded.

"Do I have permission to destroy all mankind now?"

You turned in your seat to find Google standing in the corner of the library, watching you and Mark closely with his cold electric blue eyes that matched his shirt.

"No Google, I've already said that you couldn't multiple times." Mark sighed wearily.

"Fine, I will ask again tomorrow." Google growled sourly, his gaze returning to the people flocking around him for info.

"I'll take you to the armory so you can get geared up for your first mission, then I gotta go." Mark spoke up, standing up.

You followed him back into the main area of the Hub and into the armory that was straight ahead next to a stage where a large, deactivated portal was displayed.

"What was the place you found me in?" You asked as you both arrived at the armory.

"Blank dream, a game I hadn't played in years. Those who watch my videos have their nightmares in the games I've played over the years for whatever reason, I'm still not sure." Mark answered with a shrug.

"When the bell chimes twice, go to the portal we passed by earlier. If you get lost or are still confused, find someone else that can help." Mark instructed you carefully before striding off.

You looked around the armory and found Warfstache fiddling with a golden pistol standing behind a counter covered in knives, racks lining the walls filled with swords and staffs.

"Hey, are you new?"

You looked behind you to see a girl around your age with tan skin and long dark brown hair tied up in two ponytails on the side of her head by bright yellow ribbons standing in the doorway.

She had kind brown eyes almost similar to Mark's and was dressed in a light gray t-shirt covered by a knee high pale blue dress, accompanied by long white socks and black shoes.

"I'm Tuump, who are you?" She asked politely.

"I'm (Y/N)." You answered semi-confidently.

"Cool, nice to meet you! Did you pick a class yet?" She continued.

"No, I'm not quite sure what I'm doing." You admitted.

"I'd say mage, but we already have the best one we need." She smirked jokingly, gesturing to yourself.

In the end, you picked warrior class and received a long sword as well as a black leather gauntlet lined with throwing daggers from Warfstache.

"Enjoy your new stabby things!" Warfstache called out after you as you walked out, feeling slightly more prepared.

Until you heard two bell chimes that signaled the start of your mission.

Anyone have any friends names they wanna throw out there?
