001. The Saviors Are Always Accountable

CHAPTER ONE !

Lucia didn't know what she had expected when Negan took her back to what looked like an abandoned facility. He called it The Sanctuary. She'd heard that one before.

At the moment she was sitting in a cell, she was slouched up against the wall, her elbows resting on her knees while her mind flashed with memories, that she would like to forget. First Terminus, which had also been a Sanctuary, but she'd ended up locked up there. Now this place? Great.

Negan had told his right-hand man, Simon, to put her in a cell for a few hours. When they arrived Lucia was already inspecting every single detail about the place, how many escapes, how many people she saw, and so on. She hated to admit it but the place looked pretty secure, the barbed wire fence that went all around the facility had walkers attached to it. And, it was pretty smart.

But she didn't fail to notice all the people working to attach the walkers, all wearing some kind of homemade prison uniform and keeping their eyes to the ground, not making eye contact with anyone.

When she was walking through the facility though? It was different, there were so many people as if people actually felt safe being there. There was enough food for everyone, enough clothes, and she'd seen kids. Kids. She hadn't seen any kids in so long.

And a lot of the people seemed happy. As if these 'Saviors' had actually saved them.

She snapped out of her thoughts when the door slowly began opening, making a creaking noise as there slowly entered light into the cell she was put in.

"Come on up, Negan wants to talk to you." The man's voice who she recognized to be Simon sneered at her, in an almost distasteful way. She didn't exactly like him either.

She looked up at him with narrowed eyes, before slowly pulling herself together and standing up straight. She cracked her back and neck slightly before following the man. She'd been sitting there for hours, not moving an inch because she just didn't have the energy for it, but it felt nice moving her legs a little.

They'd walked quite a bit down the hall until they reached a wooden door, Simon opened it pushing Lucia inside before shutting it behind her. Looking around the room the first thing she noticed was how big it was, the room was maybe about the size of a living room, but when she noticed the big double in the corner she could guess Negan was using it as a bedroom.

Looking to the opposite corner she noticed said man, sitting on a couch, Lucille on the table in front of him. A grin displayed on his face. "Before we have our cute little chat," Negan stood up, resting Lucille on his shoulder and slowly walking towards her, "I'm gonna give you fifteen minutes to clean your pretty little self up."

He walked around her, gesturing over to another door across the room, "The bathrooms there, new clothes are ready for you too." He grinned at the blank expression she was giving him, before he gently used his bat to shove her forward by her shoulder blades, "Go on, I'll wait."

She rolled her eyes before walking toward the bathroom, as she closed the door she noticed the lock, and sighing in relief she locked it. At least he wouldn't walk in on her that way.

Walking closer to the shower she turned it on, testing the water's heat. It was warm, they had warm water. Hell, they had showers, as disgusting as it was the only water she had been able to clean herself within months was either, hoping for rain or a goddamn lake.

After taking her clothes off she walked into the shower, tilting her head back and letting it pour down her face, it was refreshing. She turned around letting the water drip down her hair.

She was pretty quick to wash her hair and body, after that she just stood there, letting the water drip down her body. The water that she'd turned to cold rather hot felt even better on her skin. She got flinched slightly when she heard a knock on the door, followed by Negan's voice, "Times up, get your sweet ass out here!" He yelled loud enough for it to be heard through the doors.

Hearing his footsteps slowly walk away, she turned the water off and stepped out. Taking the towel hanging on the door handle, she dried herself. She looked at the black tank top and pair of shorts that had been laid out for her to wear. Pulling herself together she put them on and readied herself for whatever it was Negan was planning.

When she stepped out she noticed him sitting back on the couch again, Lucille right next to him. On the table were two glasses Negan pouring what looked like whiskey into the first one. "Take a seat." He gestured in front of him.

She sat down, crossing one leg over the other looking at him expectantly waiting for him to get to the point. As he went to pour whiskey into the second glass she spoke up, "I don't drink."

His grin widened, "More for me then." He took a sip from the glass, leaning back in the coach positioning his right ankle on his left thigh, making himself comfortable, "So," He continued, "Lucy, Can I call you Lucy?"

She furrowed her brows, "No."

He chose to ignore her, "Lucy, you've got me in a bit of a dilemma here." He sighed dramatically, taking another sip of his drink. "You killed one of my men-"

"I told you-"

"Don't," He put his hand up pointing a finger at her, not giving her a chance to speak, "Don't even try and deny it again, I'm not stupid."

"As I was saying, you killed one of my men. Normally when someone kills one of my men I punish them, and that's where the problem comes into play," He put the glass down back on the table, both his feet on the ground, and leaned forward on his elbows, "When I found little Tommy's neck sliced open on the bedroom floor, I did not expect it to have been a woman."

He slowly shook his head looking her directly in the eyes, "I don't particularly enjoy punishing or killing women, not my style, especially not if they got guts like yours." He licked his teeth before smiling, "I'm going to give you a few options."

"Which are?" Lucia raised her brows.

"One, I kill you and you get strung up like a doll on the fences outside." He took another sip before continuing, "Two, I keep you locked up in that cell for however long I want, which could be years." Yeah, no. She didn't feel like being locked up all over again.

"Three, you work for points. But that's going to take one hell of a long time since you killed one of my people," He shrugged, "People are a resource after all, so you'd have to work way harder than everyone else." He paused for a second, looking her over once again before continuing, "Then of course option four, my personal favorite."

Lucia scoffed and rolled her eyes, "That the option to get the fuck out of this hell hole or?"

He shook his head at that, "That's never going to be an option, I'll show you what option four is after you answer a few questions." He clapped his hands together, "What'd you do before this hell started?" He asked tilting his head to the side.

"I don't see how that's relevant to anything."

"Well it'd be nice to know what you're good for, but of course-" He leaned over reaching for Lucille, "If you don't want to talk I could just smash your skull in-"

"Didn't you just say that people are a resource after all" Lucia interrupted him before he could finish his threat. Mimicking his voice, what was the point of threatening her right after he said it'd be stupid to kill her?

He stared blankly at her for a second. "Fine," He sighed, before smiling a cheeky smile, "I'll just keep you locked up in that cell for years and years if you don't want to cooperate with me." He shrugged his shoulders, placing Lucille on the couch.

She bit the inside of her cheek pursing her lips, contemplating what was the smartest thing to do. "I was a lawyer."

He rubbed his lips and hummed, "So you're pretty smart too then, huh?" She'd like to think she was smart, yeah. "You weren't with any group out there?" He asked with raised eyebrows.

She just shook her head as an answer, he leaned forward a slow smile creeping back on his lips, "Really?" He asked, "You're telling me you were out there all alone?" His eyes were focused on her bare legs and arms, he was looking at all of her scars.

All of them were from Terminus, she had a few on her stomach too. Sometimes she swore she could still feel the knives cut into her weak skin, she could still feel their tight grip on her digging into her, torturing her for the fun of it.

"Yeah," She stated, avoiding eye contact and looking at her shoes. Thinking back on everything, how long her journey had been, everything she went through, she hadn't been in any official group.

The last 'group' was Terminus, but she didn't want to count that, they'd been nice to her, it had been safe. For one day, because of the group that came after and took over, holding them all captive for the fun of it for months, the second they got out of it she didn't hesitate to leave straight away.

"For how long?" She snapped her eyes back into focus, making eye contact with him.

"Oh, I don't know for a while," She gave him a sarcastic smile.

His smile didn't falter, instead, he stood up grabbed Lucille, and began walking towards the door, "Come on, I'm going to show you that fourth option you might like." Even though she didn't want to she followed close behind him.

He walked slower letting Lucia catch up with him, when she reached his side he slung his arm around her shoulder, "I'm gonna take you on a little tour around this place, so you can understand this whole situation you've gotten yourself in."

As he basically dragged her through the small hallways, he let go of her when they reached two big closed double doors, he swung around to face her smiling, "I think you're about to get real impressed, and I think this would definitely be the best option for you."

As he opened the doors and strolled inside Lucia stayed by the entrance, stopping in her movement when she looked inside the room. A group of women sitting on a couch all wearing matching tight dresses. Uhm what.

The women had quickly stood up when they noticed Negan walking in. Negan smiled at the sight, looking over his shoulder at Lucia and grinning widely, "This-" He gestured to all the women, "Could be you."

With narrowed eyes she looked at all of them and around the whole room, furrowing her brows she looked over at Negan, "What could be me?" She seethed at him, hoping to god it wasn't what she thought it was.

"Sorry, my manners." He walked back over to Lucia swinging his arm back around her shoulder, pushing her more inside of the room, "Ladies, meet Lucia. Lucia meet my wives." A large grin was spread on his face. He leaned closer down to her ear, lowering his voice to a whisper, "This is your fourth option."

Lucia pulled back from his grip letting his arm fall back down to his side, "You have got to be kidding me."

"No the fuck I am not, I take good fucking care of them." He poked his tongue in his cheek, "And I could take good fucking care of you too, they're all here willingly because they want to be." That couldn't be true.

Lucia didn't even know how to react, she stood there in front of him eyes widened and her mouth slightly agape, completely speechless. He smiled at her reaction making his way over to the table with lots of alcohol placed on it. But he stopped in his tracks when he heard her reaction.

"Ew." She said, disgusted with the suggestion and the whole situation. He'd turned around to look at her again, and she turned to look at him, "You're a pervert," She spat at him, a look of disgust on her face. What in the right mind made him think she'd want that?

"How am I a pervert?" He asked, raising his eyebrows in surprise how her reaction.

She looked around the room, gesturing to the women, "I wonder why." She said plainly with raised eyebrows.

"I am not a pervert," He scoffed, his smile completely faded away. "They want to be here, because I help them, because I provide for them." He began walking closer to Lucia, "And they provide for me."

"You've got one hell of an attitude towards me," He pointed at her. "And honestly I respect that, it takes a lot of guts. But if you don't soon cut the shit and understand that I fucking own you now." He leaned down to get in her face, "I'm just gonna have to kill you, even though it'd be a damn shame. So what you're gonna do is choose one of those four options I've given you by the end of the day, whether you like it or not." His voice had lowered, and all humor on his face earlier had disappeared.

She lifted her chin narrowing her eyes, "I don't think you get it, I'm not fucking staying."

A grin quickly returned on his face, "You don't have a fucking choice, sweetheart, now let me show you around the rest of the place."

They were making their way outside, it was slowly beginning to turn dark and Negan had shown her almost the whole place. While walking out the metal exit door with Negan in front of her and Simon tailing just behind them she looked to the side, noticing a group of kids playing together.

She was only able to see three of the kids since the sight of the rest was hidden behind the corner, but when took a few steps forward to catch sight of all of the kids her breath hitched in her throat and she froze on the spot. And time completely stopped for her.

If Lucia was being honest she'd think she was hallucinating, what were the chances that her daughter and her sister were standing only a few feet away from her? But she knew she wasn't hallucinating when her sister turned her head and caught sight of her.

Her sister's face turned into shock and her eyes widened, "Lucia!?" Her sister's shout made the red-haired little girl's attention turn over to her. Negan's attention also turned to her.

"Mom!" An adorable big smile formed on her daughter's lips as she saw her, at the sight of her daughter's little figure running towards her made Lucia snap out of it and her feet moved by themselves.

Tears formed in her eyes as she met her daughter, picking her up and hugging her as tightly and closely as possible, she saw her sister run over joining in the hug, squeezing Aurora in the middle.

Setting her daughter back down, she kneeled so her face was even with hers. Taking ahold of Aurora's cheek with her palms she scanned her whole face, "You're okay? You're fine? You're not hurt in any way??"

"I'm fine," Her daughter nodded, and she pulled her daughter back close to her, hugging her like never before. As Aurora hid her face in the crook of her mother's neck, Lucia kissed the top of her head.

"I missed you, Mom." She muttered. Lucia went from feeling nothing to feeling everything in a matter of seconds, all the heavy weight she'd felt on her chest the past year and a half was suddenly gone.

"I missed you too baby," She exhaled breaths of relief as she held her more and more tightly.

Lucia stood up, lifting her daughter in her arms again to reach for her sister. As she felt the hug of her sister that she had missed for so long she felt happy.

But when she heard a throat clearing behind her she she closed her eyes, silently rolling her eyes and taking a deep breath. "Can I speak with you inside again for a minute Lucia?" A large smile was plastered on his face, this smug motherfucker.

She put her daughter down, looking over her shoulder at Negan. Looking at him her smile faded and she narrowed her eyes, he only smiled. Lucia looked back at her daughter. "I'll be right back, okay baby?" As her daughter nodded she looked at her sister, taking her hand and holding it for a moment, before letting go of it again. "Be right back."

Negan led her over to another room with a few tables and chairs, "I've changed my mind a bit with all of the options, except for option four that one is always available," He winked at her.

He walked around her before ending right in front of her, "You could help me run this place," He paused looking at her reaction, "As I already said, I like you. You have got bigger balls and more guts than most of the men I have here. That's impressive."

"A bonus," He pointed over to the doors they'd just walked in from, "Your little daughter and sister are her." He moved closer, leaning down to her face, "And let me tell you, they feel so fucking safe here, I can promise you that." He reached for her chin, tilting it up slightly so she'd make eye contact. "You could feel safe here too, helping me run this place like a goddamn queen."

Lucia pulled back from his grip, "That's my daughter and sister, if I were to leave they would come with me." She said through gritted teeth.

"Yes of course they would, but they've been here almost since I started this place." He stated, "Your daughter has been safe here with your sister because of me."

As she scoffed Negan continued, "Wouldn't it be nice to settle down, taking a rest after all the shit you've been through?"

"I haven't been through anything-"

"Oh please, you're clearly a survive." He gestured towards her, "Someone who's survived on her own for who knows how long, I respect you for that." His eyebrows were raised, while he was biting the inside of his cheek.

"You know what," She turned her head to face his, "I'll think about it." She nodded a few times with her eyebrows raised, and then she turned, ready to walk back to her daughter and sister.

"What?" He asked disbelief in his tone.

She turned back around to him, "I said I'll think about it, now if you'll excuse me I'd love to spend time with my daughter and sister that I haven't seen in over one and a half years."

As she opened the door and walked past Simon, Negan stood still, rubbing his lips with his gloved hands, and stared at the now empty spot Lucia had been.

"Everything alright boss?" Simon stepped up to him.

"She tells me that she's gonna think about it," Negan looked at his right-hand man. "I mean, can you believe that?" He scoffed, before walking past him and then to the opposite way Lucia went, he figured he could give her some time.

Lucia was sitting curled up in a chair hugging her knees as she looked at her daughter's sleeping figure. Negan had given her a pretty large room that was close to her sisters. The room had a double-sized bed, where Aurora was currently sleeping, and a small bathroom. There was no light in the room except for the small night light on the table.

"What happened to you?" Lucia at her sister, who was sitting in a chair in front of her, a round wooden table in between them. She was looking at her scars.

"Nothing, I'm okay." Lucia's voice cracked slightly, furrowing her brows she corrected herself, "I'm okay now." Paula had tears forming in her eyes too.

"I'm sorry," Lucia breathed out to her, "That I wasn't there when everything went to shit. I was supposed to have been there."

Paula was shaking her head, "It's not your fault, please don't blame yourself." She took Lucia's hand, holding it tightly, "When the virus reached us I was at work. And when I-" Paula took a deep shaky breath to continue, "When I managed to get back home, they were all dead." Her voice cracked as tears were falling. "Rory was uhm, she was hiding in the closet. When I found her I got us out of there as quickly as possible, soon after we stumbled across the saviors, they helped us out."

Lucia nodded, "I'm sorry they didn't make it." She looked at her older sister with sorrowful eyes, "I'm glad you found it so quick, it's not exactly nice being out there now. Especially not alone."

"Does that mean you want to stay here?" Paula asked. "Because if you don't you know we'd go with you, no doubt."

"I know." Lucia nodded, "But you said Rory made friends here, right?"

Her sister nodded.

"Then I'll stay, if Rory's happy then I'm happy." She turned her eyes back to the small figure on the bed.

"You should go to sleep, and get some rest." Paula stood up, hugging her tightly once more, "I'm so glad you're here, I missed you so much."

"I missed you too, a lot." Lucia chuckled into the crook of her neck.

When Paula left to go to her own room, Lucia stood up going over to the bed to go to sleep. She wrapped her arms around her daughter, holding her tight as if she was the only person she needed in the world, Aurora turned in her sleep so she was facing her mother gripping her just as tight. Taking a deep breath Lucia closed her eyes, finally letting herself get a good night's sleep.
