Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 34 | Tʜᴇ Aᴅᴜʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ
I was on my way towards Ahaan's parents' mansion. When I'd called his Mom to inform about my arrival, she was happy and wanted to meet me. As I had already planned on meeting his parents tomorrow, I told her the same, and she was ecstatic with my decision telling me she'd never expected that. I am a family person, after all.
Minutes later, I reached their place, and the guard immediately recognized me, getting me inside. I parked the car beside others and got down dusting my dress.
Step by step I reached the main entrance of their home and I entered immediately as the door was already opened.
Making my way towards the kitchen, where I learned Ma is, I walked as comfortable as ever.
"Ma!" I said with a big smile.
She was busy preparing something in a kitchen, looking beautiful as ever. Just the way she looked two months back. Hearing my voice, she turned in my direction, and a smile crept onto her face.
"Kyra." She exclaimed, coming closer to me for a hug, leaving whatever she was doing.
"How are you?" I asked, leaning on the kitchen countertop as she went back, continuing her previous work.
"I am perfect as ever, my child. You tell me, how is Ahaan treating you? I hope you aren't having any problems." She asked with a smile.
"Oh, he's really good. You have raised a perfect son." I answered honestly.
"Where is Papa? And Aradhya?" I questioned further.
"Kartik has gone to his old friend's house. And Aradhya is already settled with her college away from here." She replied, shrugging.
She led me towards the living room, and we seated ourselves on one of the couches there.
It had almost been two hours since I arrived here, and we chatted like long-lost friends in the living room without any hesitation from my side. In between, she'd lead to me her room deciding to show Ahaan's childhood pictures to me.
"Here in this one, he fell down straight from the top of stairs, and the very next day was playing in the mud like nothing had happened. He was such a naughty boy." She said, pointing to a picture.
"Hmm, he's covered with multiple bandages, and he's about 3 in this photo, right?" I said.
"Yes, look how chubby he was." She said with a faint smile.
"Yeah." I said with a smile of mine.
"Kyra, you know he was really close to us in his childhood. But as children grow older, they do get a bit distant from their parents. In our case, it was a lot more. Kartik was always busy with the business, and I had also started my NGO in the time being, so he was pretty alone. We tried our best to spend as much time possible with our children, but it wasn't just enough. He became a cold and arrogant child of ours." She said with a small smile.
"No matter how hard we tried to get our old Ahaan, it only resulted in him getting more distant from us. I was the strict mother for him, and well, Kartik was the distant father. He always got medals in studies and football, making us proud, but he did all this for himself, on his own." She continued.
"At one point, I decided to change his school because in his previous one, his company wasn't one I would prefer for my child. I thought it'll continue the same as before, but no. Things changed. For good." I heard her say, making me smile.
"He started smiling more. My son, who would never like to spend time with his family when we all were together, had then started to spend as much as possible. He started sharing things with Kartik and I whenever he would get a chance, and we were never this happy. My son had become someone I always wanted him to be like, and he had himself started feeling vibrant. I could see everything clearly." She said, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
"But I didn't know it would end soon. At the end of his school period, he again seemed distant. Yes, he did talk to us, but it was just a few important and necessary words. Our business was at risk at that time, so he decided to go to London for his college as per Kartik's wants and simultaneously looked over the business, helping his father. For four straight years, he didn't visit us in India. Not even once, so we decided to visit him. He seemed a lot mature to me, but he was still my distant son, which I was not hoping for." She continued, and my heart was beating loudly the whole time.
"Our business was back to its position, or should I say even better than before. He continued working in London, and we kept visiting him just to know his well-being as he would never agree to come back. He was the ideal son one would wish for as he would never miss any opportunity to care about us, but it was not enough for me as I knew my son was dealing with his own problems." She said.
"And then it happened unexpectedly. Around 5 months back from now, he hesitantly told us about his marriage plans, and I was shocked. I thought that my son would never even focus on these things, seeing the person he'd become. The way he told us about you and how he had already picked his girl himself, I could point the real happiness in his eyes." She said, and my fluttered.
"I always thought I would pick the ideal wife for my only son, but the way he spoke and described you, I had made up my mind that I would accept anything for my son's wish. And the moment I met you, I was never this glad. My son couldn't have gotten a better life partner for him, and I couldn't have wished for a better daughter-in-law. He was so happy and excited when he came back to India for the wedding. The way he prepared everything, I could point out the old Ahaan in him. I have got my son back just because of your wedding and now I can say that I am contented seeing you both happy with each other." She said, and by now, there was a full-blown smile on her face.
"Do you think he's happy again because I am with him?" I asked hesitantly.
"No doubt in that Kyra. When you called me after returning from your honeymoon, I told Ahaan about the same, and there itself he started his rant about his wife. I listened to everything with utmost attention, and I knew how perfect you are for my son, for my family." She replied, patting my head.
"I am sorry." I muttered quietly.
"Sorry? For what?" She questioned, frowning.
"Just wanted to say." I shrugged, laying my head on her lap.
"Well, I wouldn't push you further. But listen, one thing that I know is how perfect you are for each. It's like you both are made for each other. The happiness I see in both of your eyes when you are together is the proof." She ended with a smile.
"I am happy with him." I admittedly quietly, but she heard very well as she smiled with a known look towards me.
"So, any news for my grandchildren?" She asked, hopeful.
"What, Ma? It has not even been 3 months to our marriage." I whined.
"Well, you never know." She shrugged with a smirk.
"I can't believe this." I muttered, shaking my head, yet with a faint smile on my lips.
We continued our talks, and I felt like it was my home itself. The way these people have made their places in my heart, I never knew it would create such a big difference in my life. That too an unexpectedly good one.
No wonder he suffered in London, but in the end, it could've been prevented. I was heartbroken, but he was the same. I felt pain, and he felt the same, the only difference being that mine was both physically and emotionally.
I was getting emotional all of a sudden so, I quickly made an excuse and she told me to go to our oom. Making my way towards the room, I soon reached and stepped in. A wave of memories flashed in front of my eyes about what all happened the very next of our wedding. An unknown smile had reached up my face.
I was busy roaming my gaze all over when I felt my phone vibrate in my clutch.
Ring...
Ring...
Ahaan's name was flashing on the screen, and I immediately accepted the call.
"Hey." I said as soon as I picked my phone.
"Wait a second." I heard his voice making me confused.
I felt my phone vibrate, and I noticed it was a video call request from him. I quickly accepted it, sliding it towards the green side.
"Hi!" He said excitedly, looking refreshing as ever.
"Hey." I said, waving slightly.
"I- where are you?" He questioned, frowning.
"Your parents' place. It's your room actually I am currently in." I replied, shrugging.
"You went there? That, too, today itself?" He asked, clearly shocked.
"Well, yeah." I responded.
"Oh, I love you so much." He mumbled, making me smile.
"How was your day?" I asked.
"It was okay. I don't know how am I going to survive the night without you in my arms." He said without any hesitation.
We talked for some minutes and he had to go for another meeting so we had to cut our call short.
"Come soon." I whispered.
"I'll try." He replied, making me smile. It was enough.
We hung up, and I kept my phone back into the clutch. I was feeling a different kind of emotion talking to him moments ago. I knew I was already deep into him and the mess when he'd make his comeback in my life.

"No, that's not fair." I shouted at the two.
"Who said we play fair?" Dhruv smirked.
"But Aarav is basically a champion in badminton." I whined at them.
"So? I'll cheer for you, na." Dhruv responded.
"I fucking hate you." I said, punching him on his bicep.
"Not that I love you." He groaned.
"Guys!" Sarah and Aarav shouted.
"What?" Dhruv and I said at the same time, resulting in us groaning at the end.
It was a day of Dhruv and Sarah's wedding, and it was my third day here in Delhi, and we'd secretly sneaked out of our home and from our relatives to the backyard in early morning. It is not that visible from the main house, so we were not visible to everyone. I helped Sarah come to our house so that nobody would see her. Aarav came as soon as we informed him as we'd decided to play badminton, in which Aarav certainly is a champion since school time.
"No, but it'll be one against two. That too me being the one and you both together." I complained.
"It was unfair for me too. He won the toss, resulting in you participating in the wedding from his side." Sarah butted in.
Sarah and Dhruv were fighting a lot about the fact from whose side I'll be participating in the wedding. He wanted his sister beside him while Sarah wanted me as her best friend. So, I decided for a toss, which resulted in Dhruv winning, and that's why I participated in each function from his side.
"Why did you have to get pregnant? We could've played together." I said, turning in her direction.
"Even I want to play, but he isn't letting me." Sarah said, pointing to Dhruv.
Dhruv raised his eyebrows towards Sarah with a 'Are you serious?' Look, making her smile sheepishly.
"We tossed, and the outcome was this Kyra. Don't underestimate yourself." Aarav stated the fact.
"Well, I didn't know it would give this outcome. Why don't we toss again?" I asked.
"Or even better option that Aarav and I against Dhruv." I said proudly.
"Fine." They agreed after some time making me shock.
"Y-you agreed?" I hesitated.
"You want to play or not?" Dhruv asked, crossing his arms.
"Fuck yeah!" I shouted, taking my place.
We began playing as soon as we took our positions. Aarav and I were in the same court, and Dhruv was opposite to us competing in an unexpectedly good way. I really missed being with them, and the fact Sarah had returned to Delhi a month before was not so good for me.
"Loser." I mocked Dhruv when we were walking back to our house.
"Oh yeah? Did you even score a single point?" He asked back, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"No! You're stinking." I shouted, pushing him.
"Even better." He said with a smug look, lifting me in the air.
"Dhruv, no, please." At the end, my puppy eyes came out.
"I'll beat you." I warned when he was about to throw me on the ground.
He looked at me as if I was joking, seeing the fact that we used to fight in our childhood, where it would only be him hitting me and me pulling out his hair in return.
"I am dead serious." I warned again in a fake deep voice.
"Funny." He commented, pinching my cheek with his free hand, and was again about to throw me.
"Mom!" I shouted with as much force as I could.
Dhruv's eyes were now wide opened, and he gently placed me on the ground back, making a smug smile appear on my lips. Mom soon came in our direction, panting heavily.
"What did you both do now?" She questioned tiredly.
"I did nothing. It was Dhruv. He beat me so hard." I complained with an innocent look.
Dhruv looked at me with a murderous look, and I smirked back.
"I am so done with you siblings. It has just been 2 days since Kyra arrived, and you both haven't spent an hour without fighting. Who can even say that you both are married?" Mom said sternly.
"I am not." Dhruv butted in.
"I'll slap you right here." She said to Dhruv, making me laugh.
"And you too." This time, it was directed for me, and Dhruv let out an evil laugh.
"This is my last warning to you both. If I, by any chance, find or hear you guys fighting and bickering, I will beat you right there. I don't care if any relative of mine sees this or your partners." She warned with a look that meant you can only agree.
By now, Dhruv and my head was bowed down in front of her. I never knew it would turn out to be this humiliating.
"Did you both see any other cousin or any child, unlike you both fighting here? No, right. But my children will never grow up. Get yourselves to your rooms and be down exactly in 30 minutes, cleaned." She said sternly, and Dhruv and I immediately nodded our heads like obedient children.
We both silently made our ways to the staircase side by side.
"Who told you to call Mom? We could've sought this between us." Dhruv grumbled quietly under his breath.
"Yeah? What about yesterday when you complained to Mom about me ruining your shirt? Do you know how much she lectured me for it?" I asked, glaring.
"That was my favorite one." He butted in.
"So? You got plenty of white shirts. They all look the same and the most important thing, I don't care." I huffed.
He slapped me on the back lightly, and I turned in his direction only to glare.
"Mo-" I was about to shout when a hand came in contact with my mouth.
"Shut up. I won't beat you again, promise. I don't want another lecture from her Kyra." He pleaded, looking at me.
"You better." I mumbled, getting inside my room.
I was covered badly with sweat as we'd play for a good amount of time, excluding the fact that I didn't put that much effort.
I was walking in the direction of my closet when I heard my phone vibrate. It took me a couple of minutes to find it, and as soon as I picked it, it stopped ringing. Deciding to call back later, whoever called me, I turned on my heels, walking back inside the closet.
I really missed Ahaan today in the morning. The fact that I only slept for a couple of hours the whole wasn't that appealing, and then the way Dhruv and Sarah were acting made me think about the importance of Ahaan in my life. I had really been taking him for granted when he would care for me.
Seeing Dhruv care for Sarah made me wonder that Ahaan does the very same with me, excluding the fact that I am not even pregnant like Sarah. He is being a real gentleman with me all these days. Even when I didn't talk to him for two months like I should've, he didn't lash out at me and listened to me like a good life partner.
What does this mean?
