Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 32 | Tʜᴇ Pʟɪɢʜᴛ

Such a disappointment you feel when you think about something in a way you knew wasn't possible, but it still happened, and at the end, it came out breaking you with guilt.

I somewhere knew that the situation which I'd made a lot of it was nothing to be angry about. Not when I didn't know the whole thing.

Kyra was fast asleep in my arms on the chair we were sitting on in the balcony. Her lips were a bit swollen as she was continuously biting on them moments ago. Long lashes were delicately touching her smooth cheeks, and this was the first time she didn't have a smile on her lips while sleeping since our marriage.

I feel so grateful towards her that she gave me a chance even after I didn't trust her. I know I don't deserve her love when I didn't trust her enough years ago. Other people's opinions mattered more to me at that moment when it should have only been Kyra.

Cold winds were blowing out, and I felt her shiver a little. As I picked her to lay inside on the bed in our room, she stirred a bit but made her comfortable within seconds, continuing her sleep. I sighed, looking at the beauty in my arms. How did I even get so lucky?

She didn't even lash out of me for my stupidity. Nor did a single tear leave her eye. That's how strong she has become. No matter how much this misunderstanding caused a drift in our relationship, I know there's a lot more than that. I know something has happened with her, causing her to behave this way. If this was only about me misunderstanding the situation, it wouldn't have made this impact on her. Yes, it was somewhat a big thing considering our relationship, but seeing the type of person she is, this was nothing. I want to know the reason for her problems, the genuine one, but I know she's not ready to tell me.

Carefully laying her on the bed, I covered her with the duvet, and she instantly snuggled, making me smile a bit. She looks so peaceful, but is it for forever?

I made my way outside the bedroom, down to the living room. I was feeling so restless after knowing Kyra's words about the whole situation. I couldn't settle in the feeling that I'd been so stupid with it. My anger took over me the time I should've been mature one.

I didn't even know when an hour passed with my brain mocking me about my actions years ago and me drinking the whiskey to calm myself. I have almost had 4 full glasses, and it didn't affect me even a bit. The pain inside me was breaking me to no extent. How did she even go through it after I accused her of my cruel behavior and words.

Deciding to go back to the bedroom for Kyra, I left the bottle right there and made my way upstairs. As I was about to reach the top of the staircase, I heard Kyra's shouts and whimpers. I instantly slammed the door open only to see her shaking lightly on the bed. Another nightmare. She was screaming from time to time, and I could feel her crying continuously.

I ran to the direction of the bed bent down on her level.

"Kyra, don't panic. It's just a nightmare, baby." I soothed patting her cheek.

She continued her whimpering, and I could clearly see the tears flowing out of her beautiful eyes.

"Kyra, wake up." I said a bit loudly this time.

"Ahaan." Was the first word she mumbled after a long time.

"Yes, Ky, I am here. Wake up." I tried to pacify her.

Her eyes were shut tightly, tears running down from them, and her hands had now made their way to her hair. She was clutching on them so badly, and I immediately covered her hands with mine to stop.

"Kyra, please open your eyes. I am right here with you." I said, lifting her a bit.

Her eyes shot open, and she blinked them numerous times while running her hands over her hair. She was breathing heavily, and her eyes were now a bit red due to continuous crying.

"Kyra." I said softly.

She slowly looked in my direction, and her eyes widened right there.

"You- you are h-here." She hesitated.

"I am. Don't be scared, Kyra, it's just a nightmare." I said, pulling her closer.

"Ahaan." She whimpered, wrapping her arms around my neck, her face hiding in my chest as her body racked with sobs.

She was continuously sobbing in my arms with her head buried in my neck. I could feel her tears that were pouring on my skin, and I lifted her, settling in my lap.

"Kyra, please stop crying." I whispered gently, rubbing her back.

"I was so scared." She said in a low voice.

"Why were you scared, Ky?" I asked her.

"You left me." She sobbed looking at me this time.

"Not this time, Kyra. Never again." I said, patting her back soothingly.

She hugged me again as she let out all the emotions in the form of her cries. A few minutes later, I felt her calm down, and she parted away from me a bit.

"Promise?" She questioned with wobbly lips.

"Promise." I said with determination.

I kissed her cheeks lightly with my lips lingering there for long, trying to feel her. She wasn't giving any reaction. Her eyes were fixated on mine with tears still flowing out of her eyes.

Wiping all her tears, I placed my forehead on hers, and I could feel her breathing heavily. I pecked her lips once, and she looked back at me with an unknown emotion.

I could hear her faint breathing. My hands made their way to her hair, soothing it lightly, and I felt her relaxing slowly.

"Sleep Kyra." I said, smothering her cheeks.

"No, I can't." She said, shaking her head.

"Nothing will happen to you, Kyra. I promise I'll be right beside you the whole time." I said softly.

"No. I'll have a nightmare again." She blurted.

"Okay, don't. Do you want to go to the terrace? You'll like there." I asked her.

"Yes, please." She responded in a low voice.

I led both of us outside the bedroom and took the stairs to the terrace. As I opened the door, I felt a cold breeze passing through me, and it definitely was from the beach near the house.

It was 1 AM, and there was silence other than the noise of waves crashing to the shore. I settled us on the couch there, and Kyra's gaze went to the ocean in front of us.

Her face was again no void of emotion, and my thoughts went back on her nightmare. This was the first time she had one after our marriage, and that too only because of the past memories that replayed in front of us. I knew it'll be hard for us to discuss those, and it'll only create problems, but I never wanted her to experience the nightmare.

Her heart is fragile, and I don't want to destroy and break it anymore with these memories. We surely need to push past our differences to work everything between us, but I don't want it at the cost of her pain.

Minutes had passed, and we both were at either corner of a single couch. With her hands crossed in front of her chest, legs crossed with each other, and a straight face gazing at the scene, I couldn't help but admire her. I can clearly see how hard she's trying to control her emotions to look strong. She is strong. There is no doubt about that. But at the same time, she needs to let out everything, to me, so that she frees herself with the weight of our past she's carrying.

I scooted closer to her, and she immediately felt it as she stiffened a bit.

"I'll show you something." She suddenly mumbled, startling me.

"Don't Kyra. You need rest." I reasoned.

She just shook her head and distanced herself a bit. She started removing her shirt she was wearing, making my eyes widen.

"What the hell is this, Kyra? What are you trying to do?" I questioned slightly angered with her actions.

She just shushed me and continued opening her buttons, and soon she was without a shirt, just in her bra and shorts she was wearing.

"Look." She pointed to her back.

As she turned a bit, her back was now in my view, and I was a bit skeptical about the situation.

"Here." She pointed to a place with a finger, and I focused my gaze there.

As I looked clearly at the spot she was pointing, my eyes opened wide, and shock was clearly evident on my face. There was a big scar on her back, which looked a bit old. It was right in the middle of her back, and I was sure it must've been something painful.

"What is this? How did this even happen? And why wasn't I able to see it before?" I asked, turning her to face in my direction.

"That's a story for another time." She shrugged with a small smile.

"And I've mastered the art to hide things from people. This is a very small thing for me." She continued, still with a smile.

"Kyra, this isn't funny. Just tell me how you got this." I said sternly.

"Right? You have no right to ask this, Ahaan." She replied, and the bitterness was very clear.

"I have every right, Kyra. Don't ever question that. And if you don't want to tell me, then it's fine. I know you need time for everything." I said, grazing her cheeks with my fingers.

"It pains. It pains right here." She mumbled, pointing to her heart.

"And it pains me to see you like this. Just let go of everything, Kyra. Let everything out. You need to move on." I said, cupping her cheeks.

"You didn't believe me." She suddenly accused.

"I know I should've Kyra. I am so sorry about that. I know it won't change anything now, but you need to let everything go, right? I can't see you living like this, away from me and my heart, which you have." I continued smothering her back.

She shivered a little, making me frown.

"You need to take care of yourself, Kyra. What if you catch cold?" I said.

Picking up the shirt she'd discarded moments ago, I made her wear it myself. One by one, I closed every button of hers, and I knew she was looking straight at me the whole time.

"I love you." I said, looking straight in her eyes.

She was gazing at me blankly, just blinking her eyes from time to time.

"I know." Was her low response after long making me smile.

I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her closer, and this time, she didn't stiffen nor she resisted. I breathed her vanilla scent, calming myself, but her scar didn't leave my mind.

I was so broken seeing at the sight of the scar on her back. It is very evident that it's not an accident or anything casual. If she's hiding this, then I am sure it's something big. It's acceptable that she needs time to open up with me about it, but I can't see her pain because of it. I know that scar is still hurting her insides even if it looks healed.

I noticed that she'd again slept, so I led both of us downstairs back to our room. This time, I lay beside her, and she was snuggled to me, making me smile.

I was fixing my hair standing in the bathroom as I had to leave for the office soon. I was currently dressed in a black suit with a white shirt underneath.

Two months had passed since that night, and it'll be the right thing to say that Kyra has distanced herself from me, which was the last thing I wanted. She doesn't speak like she used to before and only replied in monosyllables when I asked her something.

I wanted her not to distance herself from me because I wanted her to feel my love. The love is only for her, and she's all set to deny it every time. No random hugs, kisses, and closeness were there past these months.

As I made my way downstairs, I saw her sitting on the couch reading newspaper like she does every morning. We ride together to the office, but it's like we have just become acquaintances. She doesn't show her emotions like she used to before.

"Kyra, let's go." I voiced out, and she only nodded her head in response.

I led us to the car parked outside, and she quickly seated herself on the passenger seat. I sighed and moved towards the driver's. Buckling my belt, I ignited the engine and made the way towards the busy roads of Mumbai.

The whole ride she didn't utter a word just the way I've gotten used to. It was silent. Earlier, I even used to try to engage her in a conversation, but it seemed as if she didn't even want to try. No matter how hard I tried past these days, she didn't respond like I was hoping for.

I didn't know that the revelations of things would make this much difference. Sometimes, I can't help but think that if only we hadn't talked about our past that day, then things would've been just like I wanted. Both of us together, stronger and closer than ever before.

As the car came on a halt in front of her office, I glanced her only to see her fumbling with the belt. I leaned in her direction, and she seemed startled for a moment, but I didn't stop. I quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and retreated myself back.

"Bye." I heard her voice, and I just nodded in response.

She exited the car, and I kept gazing at her retreating figure. Every time I pick her up in the evening from the office, she has a small smile, but as we get back to our mansion, it's back to the silent and emotionless treatment. I can't help but feel jealous of Sarah and her employees. They are able to make her smile when her own husband, that is, me cannot.

I ignited the engine again and made my way in the direction of my office. It took me around 30 minutes to reach there, and I immediately parked my car and entered the building. I was in no mood to look at my employees if they were even working or not and directly went to the elevator going straight up to the 39th floor.

As I entered my office, I directly sat on my chair and started my work right there. This is what I busy myself these days, and honestly, it is sometimes able to distract me from everything that is going on these days.

The whole day, I kept working without any break. Workaholic would be the perfect word to describe. It was already 8 in the night, and I made my way to the big windows standing in front of them and looking at the scene. There was a beautiful sight of Mumbai's night in front of me. Loud noises of vehicles, murmurs of people, and other voices were heard.

I had to pick Kyra from her office so that we could go home back together. I wrapped up my work quickly and dashed down to the ground floor and went to the parking lot, roaring my car to its life.

Reaching there, I saw her already standing near the reception as I'd texted her about my arrival. As she saw my car, she immediately started coming in my direction.

"Hey." I heard her say, and I relaxed.

"Hey." I replied, glancing at her.

There she was, looking at me with a small smile, one I'd seen after a long, long time for me. This time, there was a blank look on my face. I couldn't smile back at her no matter how much I wanted.

I quickly U turned the car and got back to the roads again, going in the direction of our home. Around forty minutes later, we reached, and I directly parked it in the driveway and got out. I could feel her walking behind me, slowly to be exact.

Moving towards the staircase, I made my way to the bedroom. I didn't hear Kyra's footsteps behind me, so I assumed she stayed down there only.

I discarded my suit on the armchair kept in the corner of the bedroom. Making my way to the bathroom, I got under the shower stark naked, letting all thoughts wander around my mind at the same time.

I feel like I have made a mistake. I should've just stopped Kyra when she started talking about the past. No matter how much I don't want to, in the end, I have to blame everything that is happening now on it only. I even told her in the beginning itself not to distance herself from me, but she did. It's affecting both of us, and I don't know why she's not able to see this. Two months is a lot of time and we've spent it this way. I wonder when and how this is going to change because no matter how hard I try to repent things, it's just not working.

They've distanced😮‍💨 what do you think will happen with them? Also what do you think might has happened with Kyra in the past?
