He froze, turning around to see that she hadn't even looked back.

"I know you're there." She sighed. "Stay a minute, will you?"

"It's late," he replied. "I should get back."

"You're already here. Clearly, the universe has a reason for that."

He slowly made his way next to her, propping his arms over the ledge and looking down at the city lights as she did. "I don't believe in that stuff."

"Why not?"

"They're not real."

"It's nice to believe things," she mused. "Even if they're not real."
