36. Innocent
"All is fair in love and war."
It's been five minutes.
Five fucking minutes and I'm not sure if Jungkook is even breathing. He hasn't blinked even once, that's for sure. I'm not certain that's normal.
"Is he a mime?" Lucifer asked curiously, walking around the petrified Jungkook as if he were the center piece of a museum exhibition. "Is this some type of modern art performance? Humans nowadays, they're so fucking weird."
"I think he's just shocked." I explained dryly.
"He looks like an emoji." He widened his eyes, mimicking Jungkook's stupefied gaze.
"Cut the crap," I grumbled darkly. "I'm not going to fall for your charming manipulations."
He looked appalled.
"You think I want to manipulate my own spawn?"
"What a lovely way to refer to your only daughter." I retorted sardonically.
"You never said," he brushed the subject off nonchalantly, pointing at Jungkook with his chin. "Is he the lad you've been having naked cuddly time with?"
"Dad!" I hissed, glancing over at the traumatized Jungkook. "As a matter of fact, no, he's not."
He pressed a hand on his chest. "Geez, I'm relieved. Figured this much though. He reeks of virgin."
"Dad!" I said pointedly, scowling slightly.
"What? It's so rare nowadays he's like an extinct species. Like... like a four-leaf clover and a unicorn had a baby."
"DAD!!"
"What?" he asked, dumbfounded. "Am I embarrassing you by any chance?"
"I've had it with your witty comments," I sulked, folding my arms over my chest. "Why are you here?"
"To speak to a copyright lawyer regarding the devil emoji."
"DAD!!!!!!"
"Oh, yes," Lucifer said, wearing the expression of a man who had just remembered he left the stove on. "I'm here so that we could schedule your return to Hell."
I scoffed haughtily.
"Yeah, right."
"I'm serious, Faye. We need you there. I need you there."
"Oh okay, let me check my calendar," I said, my lips spread into a fake smile. "The seventh of never through the tenth of ain't-gonna-happen, how does that work for you?"
"Faye," my father said in his usual silky, temptingly persuading tone. "Are you really gonna act like a child about this?"
"I'm not a child!" I stomped my feet, pointing at the door frustratedly. "Now get out of my room! I mean, my apartment!"
Damn this man sure knows how to get on my nerves.
"Come on, Faye," Lucifer smirked. "What do you think really happens when the devil leaves Hell?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. "What?"
"All his loyal servants follow him to Earth," he replied. "And wreak havoc."
I scoffed.
"Quit joking and go back to Hell, daddy. I'm doing perfectly fine on my own, I don't need you here telling me what to do. I'm a big girl."
My dad didn't seem very pleased with my answer. He opened his mouth to say something, but what happened next sent us both reeling back.
Jungkook gasped so loudly it was almost like a wheeze.
And then, he rushed towards my father and... hugged him.
Caught off guard, Lucifer staggered backwards and almost lost his balance. It was the most astonished I had ever seen him, and my dad was not someone you could surprise easily.
"Get this boy off of me-"
"MR. LUCIFER!" Jungkook boomed, strong arms wrapped around my dad's waist and face buried in his lavish Prada suit. "IT'S SO LOVELY TO MEET YOU!" he was shouting, barely in control of his own voice.
"Faye-"
"THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!"
"Let go of me, boy!"
"I am so happy to finally-"
"I am THE DEVIL and I command you to get your hands off of me!" Lucifer ordered desperately as Jungkook was practically squeezing the life out of him. "Faye, do something!"
"I'm sorry," I wiped a little tear from the corner of my eye, my stomach hurt from laughing too much. "I need to take a picture of this!"
"Faye, don't you dare!"
"I'm such a big fan!" Jungkook cried out. "For what it's worth, I've always thought the devil gets a bad rep."
"You have?" Lucifer arched a brow.
"Yeah, I mean," Jungkook shrugged. "What did you do, rebel against your father and offered some naked lady an apple? What is the big deal?"
"Oh," Lucifer said quietly. "Well... thank you. It's nice not to be judged for a change."
"You're such a great hugger! Just like Faye."
"I literally can't." I wheezed, my laughter starting all over again.
"Great, now please young man I beg of you, just keep your hands to yourself."
"Can we stay like this a little bit longer?"
"For fuck's sake-"
The sound of the TV blaring in the background caught my attention suddenly as my laughter faded. I strained my ears to hear better, scurrying towards the living room as I heard a familiar name coming from the speaker.
"Breaking news! Dr. Kim Taehyung, one of Seoul General Hospital's youngest, brightest and most promising cardiothoracic surgeons, has been arrested earlier today on the grounds of medical malpractice and causing the death of one of his patients. According to the police, Dr. Kim has performed cardiothoracic surgery on a young woman who has died shortly after. The results of the autopsy found surgical gauze left inside the chest cavity after incisions have been sutured, which has led to a subsequent fulminant bacterial infection resulting in sepsis that was deadly. The patient died as a result of surgical negligence from Dr. Kim's side. The family members have decided to bring a legal claim in the form of a wrongful death lawsuit. Is this going to be the end of this brilliant young surgeon's career?"
A clip of Taehyung cuffed and being dragged by a couple police officers started playing. There were cameras flashing and microphones being shoved in his face, the crowd practically stampeding him. He was keeping his face low, but I could see the redness of his eyes. It broke my heart and my hand inadvertently darted to cover my mouth.
"Is that Taehyung?!" Jungkook exclaimed, running over to stand next to me. We were both paralyzed from the shock, widened eyes riveted to the TV.
"What is happening exactly?" My father ventured in leisurely, halting next to us. A small frown appeared on his forehead as he pointed at the TV. "Damn, this is probably the handsomest human being I have ever seen."
"This is insane!" Jungkook was shaken, his chin trembling. "Taehyung would never let something like this happen! I've worked beside him since forever, he's always super diligent and attentive with each of his patients! Every single time, he makes us count all surgical instruments, gauze and sponges before and after the surgery! There's literally NO WAY he would ever do that, I swear on my mother's life!"
"You mean to tell me that this angelic perfection of a man has killed someone?" my father cocked his head to the side, raising his brows and clicking his tongue. "I don't buy it. I know evil... I punish evil. This man is innocent."
"Someone must be framing him!" Jungkook breathed out, raking his fingers through his hair. "Who would do something so demonic?!"
My breathing accelerated, my heart hammering against my ribcage. Within a flash, I grabbed Jungkook and my dad by the collars, dragging them towards the exit so hastily I even forgot to change out of my robe.
"Where are we going?" Lucifer mumbled.
"We're getting Taehyung out of that fucking mess right now," I told him with a glare. "And you, dear old dad, are finally gonna do something useful for me and help us."

Jin's POV
Standing by myself in the dark alley, I was growing more and more impatient with each passing second. The cold, crisp air of the last minutes before sunrise pierced my lungs, making me shiver in my thin t-shirt, as I cursed myself for parking two blocks away and walking here.
Just as I was beginning to think I had been stood up, I spotted a shadowy silhouette rounding the corner.
"Finally," I hissed. "What took you so long?"
"You wanted it done, didn't you? Now shut up."
The voice was deep, like dripping chocolate. As the man approached, his silhouette became clearer. His cheekbones were high, his skin smooth and glowing. Dark red bangs covering his forehead and a bright smile adorning his lips. It was almost blinding.
"By the way you could have chosen a better spot for this meeting," he whined. "What are we, 1950s drug dealers?"
"So, I have nothing to worry about anymore?" I asked, ignoring him completely. "You got rid of him? In a humanly believable, unsuspicious kind of way?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," he waved a hand dismissively. "You can have our Mistress of Darkness to yourself now."
"Great!" I clapped my hands enthusiastically. "Okay then."
I spun on my heel and started walking away but I felt a firm grasp around my wrist.
"Not so fast," the man snarled. "We had a deal."
I turned around reluctantly.
"Okay, I forgot," I groaned with annoyance.
"You were supposed to use your privileges as a celestial being and grant me a physical form."
"Fine. Is that the body you've chosen?" I asked nonchalantly, picking at my nails.
He nodded, glancing down at his human form. "That one is good enough. The ladies seem to like it."
"Good. Consider it done."
"Was that it? Just like that?"
"Well what did you expect, a fucking firework show?"
"I don't know, something a bit more... meaningful."
"No, you're good."
"My demon friends are going to be so jealous." He grinned. "And my Princess of Darkness is going to be so happy to see me again. I was her second favorite demon back in Hell after that cunt, Yoongi." His face scrunched in utter disdain.
I scoffed in the form of a small laugh.
"Congratulations on crawling out of the pits of Hell and welcome to Earth... Hoseok."
author's note:
Oh my, Jin what have you done?
He really isn't stopping at anything to get Faye's love back!
Do you think daddy Luci is gonna help in getting Taehyung out of that mess?
Is there something in the story you'd like to see more? Like more Yoonmin moments, more Lucifer/Faye interactions or more Jungkook moments? Is there something in particular you'd like to know about any of the characters? I'm all ears!! 🥰❤
On a more serious note, I am terribly sorry for being so inconsistent with updates recently. I hate to burden you with apologies and I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses. I know those last two chapters were not my best work, but a lot of you asked for an update and I really didn't want to disappoint. I really hope you're not losing interest in the story. Last chapter was intense, so I tried to light it up with some humor in this one. Please don't give up on me yet :<
I hadn't updated this in so long for two reasons mainly: 1) I started my first job ever one month ago and I have been overwhelmed with life in general and not really in the right head space to write, and B) In those rare moments where I somehow found my inspiration, I was working on another story of mine that I was feeling more passionate about at the moment ( for those of you who don't know, I'm talking about my Jimin story 'Game of Shadows').
I promise I'll get back to working on 'Hearteater' as soon as I can. The next time I find time to write, 'Hearteater' will be my main priority. As always, love you lots 💕💕💕
