Chapter 4
Ladybug climbed off the railing of her balcony and flew towards the park using her yoyo. She swung high above Adrien and went over to Chloe.
She pounced on the ground and immediately gave the blonde a disappointed glare.
Chloe's eyes lit up and she smiled. "Ladybug! I am so glad to see you!"
The superheroine was not in the mood. She crossed her arms.
"What's going on here?" Ladybug asked authoritively.
Chloe's smile faded away but she did not divulge her plan. She instead played dumb. "What do you mean?"
"Why are you hiding behind this tree and eyeing Adrien Agreste down?" Ladybug pushed, itching to say something about the plan they had discussed earlier, but for obvious reasons, she has to pretend like she doesn't know.
"I'm here to pick him up afterwards," Chloe shrugged. "His bodyguard isn't available and Adrien's father trusts me the most."
Ladybug smirked, tilting her head. "What about his assistant?"
Chloe crossed her arms, already knowing the details to her cover-up. "She's busy assisting Gabriel on his modeling campaign in Shanghai."
Ladybug blinked. She had an excuse for everything. "Are you sure, Chloe? You aren't lying to me."
Chloe looked extremely uncomfortable, shifting her eyes to the side. She hated lying to her idol, but she needed to prove to Adrien that Louise was a leech!
"Yep I'm sure," Chloe coughed finally.
Ladybug sighed, looking away. She didn't believe Chloe at all, but if Ladybug pushed for anymore information, Chloe would suspect something. "Very well, have a nice night."
Ladybug threw her yoyo in the air and was prepared to fly away when Chloe called out to her. "Wait!"
Ladybug looked over her shoulder.
"I lied, okay," Chloe mumbled. "I'm here because I'm trying to prove to Adrien that his girlfriend is using him. She's a total leech!"
Ladybug smiled. She was proud that Chloe came around. Eventually.
She inched up to the blonde and pointed to Adrien across the park. "You don't have to do it like this. You'd be hurting Adrien, too."
"I know, but Louise is going to hurt him in the long run..." Chloe said, genuinely ashamed. "I know her for who she truly is. She's mean. Like, way meaner than I am. And that's really mean."
Ladybug chuckled in her head. She had never seen this side of Chloe before. A softer, genuine side. It surprised her.
"Then talk to Adrien," Ladybug suggested. "You two have been best friends for a long time. UH-- I mean, I guess you have!"
"You're right," Chloe murmured, crossing her arms. She looked up at Ladybug. "...Thanks."
"No problem," Ladybug smiled, giving her a thumbs up.
Chloe then gasped, looking towards Adrien. "Oh no!"
Ladybug turned around quickly, on high alert. Was someone hurt?
Then she understood why Chloe was shocked.
Louise was approaching Adrien.
"I forgot I had scheduled the text to be sent 10 minutes ago!" Chloe whimpered, checking her watch. "And now she's here!"
Ladybug's stomach turned. "Oh no."
"I can fix this!" Chloe panicked. "I just need to tell her to leave..."
"It's already too late," Ladybug stated, watching them greet each other with a kiss. Yuck.
Chloe began to run towards them when Ladybug grabbed her arm to hold her back.
"There's nothing we can do now. Just let it play out," Ladybug said quietly, narrowing her eyes.
"Oh no!" Chloe wailed, falling to the ground. She placed her hands on her head. "Adrien is gonna find out I orchestrated all of this and hate me! Marinette was right, I shouldn't have done this!"
Ladybug widened her eyes. "Uh, who's Marinette?"
"This baker girl in my class. Kinda my enemy. We tried to team up on this but she backed out saying that I would just end up hurting Adrien. Like, what you said!"
"O-oh!" Ladybug said, her voice cracking. "What a coincidence."
"Yeah," Chloe buried her face in her hands. Her voice became muffled. "I am so doomed."
Ladybug was watching Louise. Surprisingly, she was just standing off to the side and watching Adrien take the interview. She had not joined in as Chloe predicted.
"Well, she's not doing much," Ladybug said monotoneously. "Maybe Louise isn't as much of a leech as you put her out to be."
Chloe looked up and got to her feet. "What?! I was sure this would work..."
The fake interviewer had concluded the interview and packed up his things. Adrien walked over to Louise and they began talking.
"Ladybug, I don't know what to say..." Chloe mumbled in disbelief. "I thought for sure she was just manipulating him. There has to be another way to show-"
"Forget it, Chloe," Ladybug stated coldly. She kept watching them talk, and then Louise pointed over at her and Chloe.
Ladybug's heart dropped. The blood in her veins turned cold. She felt like she was caught for a crime when Louise pointed at them.
They began walking across the park towards the two.
"They know we're here," Ladybug said, terrified. And she saw how disappointed Adrien was.
"No way," Chloe wailed in terror. "He's so mad! He's so mad!"
"Calm down," Ladybug interjected, slightly annoyed.
She wasn't going to run away. She needed Chloe to calmly explain to them what happened.
Louise and Adrien finally approached them. She leaned on one hip and began talking first.
"What's going on here, Ladybug? Were you two spying on us?"
"No, this is a big misunderstanding," Ladybug stated. "Chloe, please explain to them what happened."
Chloe shivered in her shoes. The disappointing glare of Adrien and the glare of anger from Louise shook her entire core. She couldn't process anything. She was absolutely terrified. She was scared of losing Adrien again.
"Well?" Adrien then said, frowning.
"It... It was Marinette's plan!" Chloe yelled.
Ladybug could not believe her ears. Was Chloe really ratting her out and blaming the entire thing on her?!
"What?" Adrien said in disbelief.
"That's a lie!" Ladybug yelled, but then quickly silenced.
Chloe began fiddling with her hands. "You see, Marinette came up with this plan to expose Louise for being manipulative over you, Adrikins. She recruited me to come here and carry the plan out but it didn't really work."
Ladybug stared silently at the ground, her face growing red. How could she?! Ladybug was finally warming up to her until she did this! What a lying, little...
"Ladybug came here to talk me out of it. She's a true hero," Chloe concluded. "I'm so sorry Adrien."
"I don't believe you, Marinette would never carry this out!" Adrien cried.
Ladybug breathed a sigh of relief hearing those words. She was so glad Adrien was sensible enough to see past Chloe's lies!
"I'm really disappointed in you, Chloe," Ladybug then said calmly. She was still very shocked and betrayed that Chloe tried to blame this on her.
"Ladybug-" Chloe began.
"I'm sorry, but I have to go," Ladybug stated flatly, cutting her off. She then turned to Louise and Adrien. "Sorry about this predictament you guys. I can see that Chloe doesn't understand how to respect others."
"Thank you, Ladybug," Louise nodded.
"Yeah, thank you," Adrien said graciously. He always had faith in his Lady to remain calm and collected in sticky situations.
And with that, Ladybug untied the yoyo around her waist and used it to soar away.
Chloe reached out to Adrien. "Please, I'm sorry."
"I'm really disappointed in you, Chloe. I thought we were friends. I guess not," Adrien mumbled before walking away.
Chloe looked shamefully at the ground, tears streaming down her face.
Louise was about to follow behind when she stopped from a brief second and leaned in towards Chloe.
"You were so close, mon cheri. Now no one will believe you, including Ladybug herself, and I will rule the modeling world once I get rid of Adrien. But nice try, how pathetic," Louise laughed.
"You coming, babe?" Adrien called out to her.
"Of course sweetie!" Louise piped up, her voice high pitched and innocent. She quickly followed Adrien into the limo and it sped off.
Chloe huddled up behind a tree and began bawling her eyes out. She was now truly alone.
