Chapter 7 - Song

"Yesterday, you said about wanting to hang out sometime.. Do you want to go roller skating this afternoon?" Aurora and I always used to go roller skating.

"Just as friends, though?"

"Absolutely. Just as friends."

"I'd love to."

"We could go right after school. You could leave with me. Maybe just ask your parents before school is over?"

"I'll text my mum right now."

She got her phone out and texted her mum. Not even a minute after she texted her, her phone dinged.

"I can go," she smiled, looking down at her mum's text.

"I need to text my mum, letting her know I won't be home right away."

I told her I was going roller skating with a friend. Of course, she replied with, "just a friend???"

She was always suspicious and wanted to know if I liked a girl or not. I told her we were just friends, and she replied with an "okay".

She also told me she wanted to meet the girl. Kat was okay with going to my house for a little bit after skating. My mum was so excited when it came to me and girls because I've never had a real girlfriend. I just want Aurora. I don't really care to date, either.

"So your mum wants to meet me?" Kat asked.

"Yeah. She wants to meet any girl I'm friends with."

"Okay..."

"Don't worry, though. She's nice."

"I bet."

"She just wants to meet the girl to see if she approves, even if I know I'm not going to date the girl."

"That makes sense. My dad is the same way. He needs to meet any guy I associate with. He always made a big fuss over Adam, and how he was so amazing. He always told me I should date Adam. There's no way I'm doing that. Adam was always like a son to him, but he knows that not all guys are going to be like that. Adam was just a kiss-ass to my dad."

"That seems like something Adam would do. I'm surprised he doesn't know about what Adam does now, or does he?"

"I think he's heard. I'm not really sure though. I might've said something about Adam being a douche around him. Of course he defended Adam. He still comes over to see my dad sometimes, but he never associates with me or even talks to me. It's weird to think that we were once best friends."

"I know where you're coming from. It seems weird that just a few weeks ago, Aurora and I would be inseparable. Now, she ignores me a lot. Too popular for me, I guess. It's so annoying."

"Adam is the same. Popularity means everything to him. He always needs the attention on him."

"He's the same way it football. He is always playing. He always steals the ball from a player on his own team and makes the goal himself. Since he's the captain, he can make it all about himself. That's all he ever does."

"I bet. That would get annoying, wouldn't it?"

"It does. He doesn't like me. Just because the other players think I'm a better player than him, he doesn't let me play much. He's always in. It disgusts me."

"I've seen some games. You're almost always on the bench."

"Yeah. Once, he wasn't there. I played the whole game, and we won nine to one. It was an easy win."

"He's such a fucking douche. Only if he would've realized that."

"Oh, he did. He tells me that they are just an easy team to beat. But any other time we play them, we lose."

"Wow. I hate him even more now. He should let you play."

"Yeah, try telling him that. He'll punch you, thinking you're telling him I'm a better player than he is. It's happened before."

"Oh."

We both took our trays up, and the bell rang shortly after that. It was time for study hall. Kat wasn't in my study hall, but she was in my Honor's English, the class after my study hall.

She would do her funny voices again, and I would try to imitate them. It didn't turn out as well as I thought. We just laughed it off and continued reading.

In music, I began to play a song on the guitar that Luke and I had been working on. Kat liked it, so I told her the lyrics.

"It's about Aurora.." She smiled at me.

"It might be," I told her, blushing.

"You just told me the lyrics, Calum. It's definitely about Aurora. You're talking about her and Adam, and how you're always there for her, even when her and Adam are going to break up. I like it. What's it called?"

"Heartbreak Girl. I just need to think of something else to put in the chorus. I don't know what to put there.. 'I dedicate this song to you, the one who never sees the truth that I could take away your hurt, heartbreak girl.' I don't know what to put in after that."

"Don't worry. I know you'll get it. You'll think of something."

"I'm sure I will. Thanks, Kat."

"Hey, I know you'll figure it out. I don't lie when I'm encouraging people."

I began to think of what to put. I couldn't think. I had writer's block. But, like Kat said, I figured it out sooner or later.
