Chapter 6 - Kat

The next day, I talked with Katrina again while in chemistry. She wanted to know a little bit more about Aurora and me. I wanted to know a little bit more about her and Adam when they were friends too.

"Aurora and I have been friends since we were two. We would do everything together. We were always at each other's houses, playing. Our parents are also really good friends, so we were together a lot because of that. Her older sister was best friends with my older sister at the time, until they grew apart. They're still friends, but not as good of friends as Aurora and I were."

"When we were seven, we made a pact to always stay friends. I guess we've broken that pact, unless she still considers us friends now."

"At about ten years old, we would sneak out to see each other because our parents were fighting and they wouldn't let us see each other outside of school. If we saw each other, that meant our parents had to see each other."

"I was thirteen when I really started liking her. I've liked her ever since. She hasn't noticed it yet. She's had a few other relationships, but they usually only last for about a month or two. I hope his relationship doesn't last for much longer, or she will be really crushed when he breaks up with her, especially if he fucks her before he dumps her-" I told her about our friendship.

"I know he will," Katrina cut in.

"Yeah, you're probably right. She's going to be completely crushed. Hopefully she'll come back to me, and have me as a friend again.."

"I hope so too. I wouldn't want to lose you as a friend. Maybe when they break up, you and Aurora can be more than friends.."

"Yeah, like that'll happen.." I rolled my eyes at her comment.

"It might. You never know. She could like you too."

"She probably doesn't. She's never said anything. She would've by now if she does like me.."

"Hey, girls get scared to tell their crush they like them. She might like you, but she might be too afraid to tell you. She might be trying to make you jealous by dating Adam."

"No. She thinks Adam loves her, as all the other girls do. She's not trying to make me jealous, I promise you. She likes Adam."

"Sure she does.."

"I'm telling you, she does. She wouldn't still be dating that douche if she didn't think he loves her."

"Who knows? I know some girls that date their crushes best friend just to make their crush jealous. Sometimes it really works. Maybe that's what's going on with you."

"No, it's not. Like I've said, Aurora thinks Adam loves her. That's all there is to it."

"Okay. I believe you."

"You better! I've been trying to tell you that for the past few minutes!"

"Yeah, I know."

------

Aurora stopped to talk to me at the beginning of lunch before Kat came to sit by me. She was asking me about Kat again.

"So I saw that you've been becoming friends with Kat.." She raised her eyebrows.

"Yeah, I have been. She's super nice."

She just shot me a smile before walking away. I tried to get her attention to tell her we were just friends, "wait-". She was already far enough away to not hear me.

"Fuck," I swore quietly to myself. Aurora thinks I like Kat. Maybe that's not a bad thing. She doesn't know that I like her.

"What's wrong?" Kat must've heard me swear. She came up behind me and sat right beside me.

"Aurora still thinks you're the girl I like. I thought, though, maybe that's not a bad thing. She'll think it's you, and she won't even think about it being her."

"Good idea."

"So, could you not say anything to her about it? She most likely won't say anything to you about it, because she would never tell my crush that I like them. She's not the girl to do that. If you don't say anything, and I don't say anything, she won't know, okay?"

"Uh, got it."

"Is there something wrong?"

"I just don't want her to think we're together."

"Don't worry. She'll just think that I like you, until I tell her otherwise."

"Okay."
