Chapter 3 - Friends, Ignoring, Confusion

Monday, at school, Aurora completely ignored me. I mean, I deserved it, but I didn't like it. I missed greeting her in the morning. She came in and walked straight past me to her locker.

In history, she didn't sit next to me. She sat in the back of the classroom, the farthest she could get from me. When the teacher said something that was an inside joke of ours, I smiled and looked back at her. She was still staring at her book.

In chemistry, she sat next to Adam, of course. I heard her giggle a few times and I smiled, but my smile faded as I realized the thing making her laugh was Adam, not me. I sat alone the whole period. Chemistry wasn't fun without her. Nothing was.

At lunch, she started to walk towards our table but stopped herself. She turned around and walked towards Adam's table. It must've been a habit to walk towards our table. A habit that she was going to break, apparently.

I didn't want to go the whole day without talking to her, so in period seven study hall, I walked over to her and sat beside her. She was sitting alone since Adam or anybody in his "screw crew" weren't in our class. I was sitting alone, of course.

"He-" I started to talk, but she got up. I grabbed her arm, but she just got mad at me.

"Let go of me," she gritted through her teeth.

"I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean to say what I did. I was just trying to protect you. I don't want you ignoring me anymore. Please, forgive me.."

"Calum, let go of me right now," she warned.

"Miss Starr, please sit down," the teacher called her out.

Aurora just glared at me, but she sat down beside me. I tried to talk to her, but she wouldn't listen to me. I hated this.

"Aurora," I said, putting my fingers under her chin and pulling her head up so her eyes would make contact with mine, "please, just listen."

"I will if you get your fucking hands off of me.."

"Okay," I took my fingers off of her chin, "I didn't mean what I said. I'm really sorry. I just want to protect you from him breaking your heart. I know you don't get it now, but I know you will get a broken heart by him. Just, please forgive me."

"Fine. I'm sorry too. I was acting like a bitch too. I really didn't mean it," she apologized.

I smiled, and she smiled back. The bell rung a few minutes later, forcing us to get up and go to our next class: Honor's English.

It wasn't my favorite class, but Aurora wanted to take it instead of regular English, and if I took regular English while she took honor's, our schedules would be completely different.

She sat next to me once more this period. While we were supposed to me reading, I whispered to her, "how was bowling with Adam?"

"Good. He brought Logan and James. It wasn't really a date at first. Then they got the sense we wanted them to leave, so it was more like a date then. It was nice," she replied.

"That's good. I'm glad you had fun. You didn't have too much fun, though, did you?" I wondered.

"No! I wouldn't on the first fucking date."

"Okay. Just making sure."

"Are you sure you're not my dad?"

"I'm pretty sure," I answered, "do want to come over after school?"

"I have plans with Adam... I'm sorry," she frowned.

"It's alright. I don't mind. Tomorrow maybe?"

"Calum, Aurora, quiet!" Our teacher scolded. Aurora nodded at me before continuing reading the rest of the chapter in her book.

------

In music, Aurora sat with Adam and Logan. I wasn't surprised. I knew she was going to when we had a class with either of them.

She didn't look at me during the whole class. She ignored me again. When I would look at her, ask her wouldn't look at me, even when the teacher said a word, and I thought about one of our inside jokes. It was her favorite. It's a long story, but she didn't even seem phased when I looked back at her. I was getting concerned. I was also confused. She just isn't herself.
