33. The Past and The Future
The knock on the door was quite light, like he knew that he wasn't welcome but he came anyways.
You were hesitant as you walked over to your door and saw Adrien standing outside of it.
With a sigh you opened the door to the man with puffy red eyes.
"You're going to come here looking like that?" You asked with a weak smile. "We haven't even started fighting yet."
He frowned. "Y/n—please."
You turned and walked inside, leaving the door just barely open as you braced yourself for what was about to happen.
"You know I never meant any of that. All I can think about it making things better and mending our family. We should be together." He whispered, knowing Dakota was asleep in the other room.
"Adrien."
"I'm serious Y/n-"
"Adrien. Besides the fact that you called me greedy and selfish—" he winced. "You turned me away the entire time you were in jail. How do you think that made me feel and Dakota?"
He shook his head. "I won't apologize for that. Keeping you away was the only way to keep you safe."
Safe. You thought back to the two threatening letters you had received.
You simply shook your head. "And look how it turned out anyways."
"Because you came anyway!" He snapped though his voice remained hushed. "I asked you to stay away and just let me handle it but you didn't. Now everybody knows."
You nodded knowingly. "Yeah just keep blaming me for everything thanks." You shook your head. "Wanna talk about the fact that you just up and turned yourself in when you were innocent all along and left me alone to raise our son?"
"Y/n, you knew that was the only way." He insisted.
"Sure! But couldn't you just use your daddy's money to buy you out just like everything else?"
"They actually sold all of his shares—"
"Not the point Adrien!" You hissed. "You could have found another way! You could have had me come with you, you could have told them your secret identity-"
"My secret identity?" He asked, baffled. "There's no way in hell I could do that, you and Dakota would be in danger and-"
"We're already in danger!" You snapped.
"What?" He asked, not following.
"Your cousin! He found my number and has been sending me threatening, taunting voice mails. Then there's the fucking letters taped to the door! Dakota isn't even here right now because it's not safe for him." You screamed.
His eyes were wide and his entire body stiffened. "N-No that's not right." He stammered. "He agreed to stay away from you—he promised!"
"Since when has Felix ever kept his promises?" You spat.
"Y/n! I'm telling you I refused to tell him anything! I don't know how he knew." He was shaking profusely.
"He has to much on us." You sighed, rubbing your temples harshly. "He will always be one step ahead."
Adrien stepped closer, allowing his heart to control every movement as he was upon you. His hands cupped the sides of your face and his thumbs stroked your cheek lovingly as tears were streaming down his face.
You flinched. "Adrien-"
"I'm sorry Y/n." He shook his head as he placed his forehead on your own. "I'm so sorry for everything. All the things I said and all of the things I did, and not being able to protect you two. I'm sorry."
He was shaking—and maybe you were too.
Still you placed a hand on the center of his chest and pushed him back.
"I need time."
"It's been a few months." He chuckled but allowed his hands to fall from your face anyways as he walked back towards the door.
"I need time to decide what to do about this. Without the distraction of clearing your name. I know what I said when I visited you that day but you have to understand that I make irrational decisions when I'm emotional."
He shook his head, clearly pained that you believed seeing and kissing him again was a irrational decision. "Well would you mind pretending until tomorrow night? Chloe is hosting a celebration dinner for me and she is insistent that you come."
You crossed your arms, brows furrowed. "Fine." You began walking towards you room. "But you need to leave." You waved goodbye.
"What are you going to do? If that person comes back."
"I have Plagg. I think I'll be fine."

"Honey will you please just keep the shoes on?" You snapped as your son planted himself to the sidewalk again, shoving off his black shoes.
"No I want my race car ones these are stupid." They really are stupid.
"Dakota dear, you know how Aunt Chloe is about looking nice in her fancy house."
"I don't care what she thinks!"
"Okay well Dakota I am your mother and we're almost there so you are wearing the stupid shoes!"

The dining room was lavish. The table was long and had a delicate white cloth over it, that you knew the children would spill on. There were three chandeliers hanging over the table. Your friends were already seated but stood to great you, Adrien, and Dakota as you walked in.
"I never thought there would be a day I would be excited to welcome two Dupain-Chengs into my home." Chloe spoke with a small smile as she greeted the three of you.
"Hello to you too Chloe." You spoke with a snort as you greeted the girl, you wouldn't exactly say you were friends with.
You had seen Chloe a handful of times since the two of you had children. At first she was outraged that someone other than her was with Adrien, but then her husband squeezed her hand and reminded her he was next to her.
"Is the pregnancy going well?" Adrien asked.
"It's as ridiculous as it was the first time." She complained. "I don't want to talk about it though. Dakota." She snapped her fingers as she pointed to her daughter, Clarisse.
"Yes Aunt Chloe?" He grumbled, hating that she insisted he called her that.
"Go play with Clarisse. I need to talk to your parents."
"She is always mean to me!" He whined as he sulked over to the pretty little blonde girl.
"What's going on with you two?" Chloe was straight to the point. "You can't be mad at me for not showing up to the trial. We were out of town and I'm super pregnant so that must be illegal to be mad-"
"Chloe." You put your hand up to stop her rambling. "No one is mad you didn't show up. We kept the number of people small anyways."
"So what is the problem then?" She demanded.
Adrien opened his mouth to speak but you stepped away.
"I'm going to go say hello to Marinette. Feel free to discuss if you would like." You cut your eyes at Adrien and walked over to Marinette.
"Hey."
"Hey girl!" She smiled. "I'm glad to see you could make it. Alya and Nino will be here soon too. I invited Luka but he said he shouldn't come." She grumbled.
Your heart dropped. "Oh."
"Don't worry about it though, you've got me and Anthony to keep you company." She beamed.
You felt a wave of nervousness wash over you. "Oh he's here? I don't think I should-"
"Hello, Y/n." That alluring voice spoke as he approached the two of you.
"Evening, Anthony."
"I told you just Ant is fine."
"Ant is a stupid nickname, don't you think?" You grumbled and Marinette kicked your leg from under the table. "Good to see you again."
"You as well." His sentiments were accompanied by a familiar malicious smirk.
"Where's Aleksander?" You whispered to your sister as you noticed the absence of Chloe's husband.
She shrugged. "I don't know, maybe overseas again?"
Chloe's husband was a traveling salesman who was home just about as much as you were when you were touring.
As everyone finished sitting down you anxiously kept checking on your son, who was sitting in between Clarisse and Jesse.
You sighed, but the calmness that washed over you evaporated as Adrien took his seat next to you. You felt your entire body stiffen as he placed his hand on top of yours. You shook your head quietly as you pulled back your hand and sat it on his lap.
"Let's get this moving! I'm pregnant for goodness sake Jean whatever your name is!" Chloe groaned.
Marinette face palmed. "You can only make so much progress."
"Same can be said for you." You whispered with a smirk.
She kicked your leg under the table again, proving your point.
To be fair, you all had room for improvement. You were finding yourself in similar relationship issues that you experienced when you were younger. You were always finding yourself trapped in the cycle of Luka and Adrien. If only Kagami—
you searched the room for your old friend who was no where in sight.
"Where's Kagami." You spoke lowly to Adrien.
"She couldn't make it but sends her congratulations."
"Damn." You whispered, still having a horrible mouth.

Once the dinner was over the group of people dispersed around the room. You had a glass of wine in your hand and stood in the corner. If you had to spend another second pretending everything was okay with Adrien, for his sake, you were going to need about three more glasses.
"You look like you want to be anywhere but here." That voice whispered again and you felt yourself experience a weird sense of déjà vu.
Your eyes met Anthony's. "Uh—well I don't." You spoke as you looked around the room to see Adrien standing and watching Dakota. Good, he's safe.
"Fancy dinner parties aren't for you? I would have thought you would love them considering you have more money than Chloe and Aleksander do."
"What do you know about my financial status?" You spat.
"You and your husband are celebrities-"
"He is not my husband."
He didn't look surprised, almost like he knew already and was just stirring the pot. "What's your deal Anthony?"
He shrugged. "I'm simply getting to know my girlfriends sister, nothing more." He smiled gently.
"What is that shit you do? Going from being a creep to a sweet looking guy? Cut it out and be real." You snapped.
He blinked, his head turned dumbly. "Real?" He hummed, walking off like he was truly considering your response, but you knew it went right over his head.

Luka was at your door once you put Dakota to sleep.
"Luka." You found yourself smiling softly.
"I need to know." He began, you noticed his distressed expression. "Is he your forever?" He asked.
You snorted. "You always have had a funny way of saying how you feel." You smiled gently.
"Y/n, I'm not here for jokes. I need to know if I need to move on with my life, away from you." His eyes lightened a bit. "Or if I have a chance."
Your heart was pounding. "I—" your voice fell. "I don't see him the same way I used too." You admitted.
"What does that mean Y/n?"
You gulped, your hand gripping the door hard. "I-"
He stepped closer, his tall frame towering over you. Your first instinct was to step back and slam the door in his face, but something inside of you willed you to stay.
"Next time I see you." He whispered, pushing a strand of hair behind your ear, his thumb trailing to your lip and pulling it down ever so slightly. "I want to kiss you, so I hope you have your answer." He whispered.
Before you could respond, you were watching him walk away from you again, and you found yourself wishing he had kissed you that night—to make some things clearer.

An unknown location
"Back from playing your game?" The girl of the shadows asked as the man stepped back into their hideout. She handed over his miraculous which he took readily.
"You know that's the only way I can go outside these days." He shrugged, pinning the brooch back on his shirt.
She nodded. "Yeah I get it, you have a flair for the dramatics."
He grinned. "It's the only way I know how to win, I know how much you love to win."
"I do." The young girl conceded. "It's always been so addicting."

"Ah—so you're the guy who thinks he is better than everyone else!" You called from across the classroom, sending the boy still standing near the door into a flurry of nervousness. "I'm glad we got that roll assigned early!" You winked.
You walked closer to him and you noticed he sat up straighter, as if he was ready to jump into a fight at any second.
"Eh? You got a problem eye bags? Come any closer and I'll blast you to hell!" He growled.
You pointed blandly to the desk behind him. "I have no desire to come any closer, but unfortunately for the both of us my assigned seat it behind you."
