32. Bad Ideas and Threats

He knew he shouldn't be doing this.

He should have left the court house when he saw the unidentified desperation in your gaze.

But here he was,

facing the entire crowd—with the fate of your love on his hands.

The final words were coming from him, and he had no idea how he was supposed to follow up Gabriel and Adrien Agreste.

"How do you know my client?"

The man had terrifying eyes that sent a shiver down his spine. He was determined to free Adrien, he couldn't even imagine how much money a lawyer with that much determination must have cost.

He would have had to sell loads of guitars to high end clients to even afford that.

"We were good buddies in high school. Played in the same band." He sucked in a breath, he imagine to get in the first sentences, good.

"Did he ever strike you as the type to be a master criminal?" He asked.

Luka snorted. "No way, the only animosity I had towards the guy was loving the same girl." He was going to punch himself in the face.

Adrien and his lawyer both looked flustered.

"Sorry—I have a tendency to over speak when I'm nervous."

He could see you covering your eyes out of embarrassment and Marinette slapping her hand against her forehead.

He really was an idiot—an idiot who should have gone home to his guitars hours ago.

**

"He's an idiot."

"The idiot you asked to come here." You grumbled as Luka walked off the platform and back towards his seat next to you.

"I told both of you already it was Anthony's idea! Last time I listen to him." She crossed her arms and turned her head away from you.

You frowned and felt your brows furrow. You still didn't like that guy.

Luka took his seat next to you and once your head turned to face him he simply shook his own.

"I know."

You chuckled. "At least you're aware you're an idiot."

"An idiot for loving you?" He whispered but you got the suspicion you weren't supposed to hear it.

**

"They're walking back out." Marinette tapped your leg frantically, waking you from your quick nap. You shot up instantly and watched as they were ready to begin reading off the jury's verdict.

"Today Adrien Agreste was tried for aiding and hiding a supervillain. After the evidence that was presented and the personal relations were shared—the jury has decided Adrien Agreste is not guilty of aiding his father in his terror of the city."

Your heart stopped instantly and tears began steaming down your face. "He's...free?" You whispered.

"You did it." Luka whispered. "You saved him."

"Well that idiot will never be able to stand on his own." You sniffed as you delicately rubbed the tears away from your eyes. "And you're wrong." You smiled. "We saved him."

**

"You're mad at me? For following my fucking dreams?" You seethed.

"A tour is your dream now?" He asked with a baffled laugh. "Dammit Y/n—how am I supposed to even keep up? You change it every five fucking minutes!"

Your body stiffened. "I dreamt of seeing the world-"

"And you did! You were a wonderful flight attendant but that is over now. What are you going to do about Dakota? You're just going to leave him here—with what a nanny? I thought we both agreed we wanted to raise him without the extra help."

"Oh? So your job takes precedence over mine now?" You asked with a hum. "I'm glad to see the only one who has to make sacrifices is me." You snapped.

"Y/n."

"You do this every time. Every time I have a show I get guilted for leaving. How do you think I feel when you bounce around France and occasionally leave the country to model for your father? You know, that job you said you were quitting." You added.

"You know it's not that easy." His voice was falling to a whisper. "My father hardly let me move out of his house as it is—if I stopped-"

"Do you hear yourself?" You laughed. "Adrien—you are twenty four years old! You don't have to bend over backwards for him anymore! You are a father now!"

"And I'm providing for my child with my job!"

"So am I!"

"No! You're just aspiring to fill the hole you dug in your chest! You can't sit still and just be happy with what you have! You always need more—greed..." he stopped himself when he saw the way your face fell with each word that escaped his lips.

"Get out."

"Y/n."

"Get out. I'm done talking to you."

"I didn't mean it. You know I didn't mean it baby-"

"Get the fuck out!" You screamed as he tried to touch you. "Get the hell off me—don't fucking touch me." You we're curled up on the floor now.

"I'm sorry! We need to talk it out, I really didn't mean that. I went to far I was angry—"

"Leave!" Tears were streaming down your face.

You didn't look up again until you heard the door slam shut. You broke out into sobs as his words repeat in your head. You did this to yourself? What happened to the boy who only wished to see you smile? Who came after you time after time to make sure that you still knew you belonged.

You couldn't see that boy anymore...not after that.

**

"I-" your voice broke as your face fell to your hands.

"What do you want to do?" Marinette asked gently, the two of you stood out in the hallway, backs pressed up against the wall as she tried her hardest to be there for comfort.

"How do we go back from that?" You asked shakily.

She sighed, shaking her head. "Didn't you guys kiss?" She asked with a tilt of her head. "Maybe that means you aren't ready for it to be over." She shrugged.

"Or that I was caught up in the moment! He's the father of my child of course I would get emotional when seeing him again." You laughed sarcastically.

She sat on the floor and tugged your wrist to signal she wanted you to sit next to her. "You don't have to let him stay. You can tell him to leave again, just because he decided to turn himself in and make public declarations of love, doesn't mean you owe him anything more."

You scoffed, knowing she was right. But you also knew it wasn't as easy as she was trying to make it seem. "Dakota is going to want to see him, us, together." You whispered.

"Well—it's not about Dakota all the time!" She threw her hands up and laughed, and you knew she was joking.

Still, you flicked her head and stood, brushing off your pants.

As you looked up the doors opened and you were face to face with Luka.

An bubble of awkwardness filled you and he sighed as he shook his head.

"Dammit you're everywhere, aren't you?"

You were baffled. "Luka—I've been here all day."

He waved his hand at you dismissively. "Goodnight you two." He whispered as he began towards the door to leave.

You found yourself frozen, watching him go.

He really had grown so much. You had noticed the night you reunited, but watching him walk away from you forced you to realize all that you were missing.

It was ironic really, watching him walk away from you.

Like you had from him, so many times.

**

You went home before speaking to Adrien.

Your mother planned to drop off Dakota at your apartment and you told yourself you left to be ready for his arrival.

Yes, you would keep telling yourself that.

Though, here it was again.

Taped to your door.

You bit your quivering lip as you pulled it off the door.

'You better shut up and sing or your life will be over.'
