30. Betrayal and Convenience
"I don't believe we have met."
The sound of his voice was familiar—though it was much lower than you were used to hearing.
"Don't turn yet." He had a hand placed on the curve of your arm. "I don't want you to be too surprised."
You could tell he was smirking.
"Who are you?" You asked gently, your mind racing due to how similar the stranger sounded to your new boyfriend.
"Felix Graham De Vanily."
"That's quite the name you have there."
"I've heard you have quite a long one as well." He countered and your brows furrowed.
"How do you know who I am?" You questioned as you moved to turn around and face the stranger, but his grip on your arm tightened, sending you into a flurry of nervousness. 'Where was Adrien?'
"Things have gotten a bit serious between you and my cousin—I just figured I'd like to make you a better offer." His hand began to trail down your side.
You pulled your arm out of his grip. "Listen here motherfucker-"
Your eyes grew wide.
Seeing him reminded you of the night Marinette told you about Adrien's identical cousin. You hadn't believed her at the time.
Before you stood a man of the same stature as Adrien. The only noticeable difference between the two was his business attire and hair that was slicked to the side. His lips were tugged into a smirk that you assumed would never falter.
You stumbled backwards. "Who are you?"
He shook his head disapprovingly. "Man you're a slow one aren't you? A shame, really, but I guess my cousin would need someone dumber than him." He threw his hands up hopelessly as he shrugged.
"I'm not dumb! Fuck you—stupid identical asshole!"
He sighed. "Vulgar too. Aren't you just embarrassing yourself at this point?"
You hissed. "Goodnight." You stormed passed him, but he grabbed your elbow once more before you could get to far.
His lips hovered against your ear. "I have a feeling we will be seeing each other again, very soon."
**
"We will now hear from the side of the defendant." The judge commenced as the prosecution stepped towards his table.
Adrien's lawyer stood promptly, smoothing out his ridiculously expensive suit. "The accusation that my client, Adrien Agreste had any involvement in the crimes committed within his house has no real backing and is simply convenient to assume." You smiled softly at the opening statement.
"Agreste was only a student in high school at the time his father supposedly began akumatizing the people of Paris-"
"Did you say supposedly? Did you forget that he was caught by our city's heroes?" The prosecutor jumped in.
"You had your turn to speak—please sit back and allow him to have the same luxury." The judge sighed as he motioned his hand back towards the lawyer to speak.
"Thank you your honor." He cleared his throat. "I have brought in five key witnesses and paperwork that shows my client wasn't even living in his father's home for the past seven years."
The folder was passed around to the jury.
"I would like to call up Y/n Dupain-Cheng."
"You better tell them." Felix whispered once more and you refused to spare him a second glance.
"Now Ms. Dupain-Cheng." He began as you settled in. "How do you know Adrien Agreste?"
You winced. "I met him on his first day of high school." You smiled gently at the memory. "He was completely flocked by the students at our school after our classmate paraded him around like a show pony. He didn't have any friends other than her—so when she finally stopped looking I grabbed him and showed him around the school myself."
You saw Adrien smile softly, reliving the same memory.
"Right—and that's very sweet, but what is he to you now?"
You sighed, your eyes meeting his bright green ones. He only nodded once, signaling it was okay to him as long as it was for you.
"He is my boyfriend of eight years." You stiffened. "And..."
"And?"
"And the father of my child."
You heard a few gasps, presumably from the people who were fans of either of you at some point.
"A father." The defendant smiled. "And do the three of you live together?"
"We have a house just outside of the city limits of Paris that we live in while I am not working."
"Is it true that you recently bought an apartment?"
"Yes." You winced.
"Why is that?"
"Would you want to go back to the home where you spent almost every day with the person you loved, alone?" You asked shakily.
"No." He shook his head. "I wouldn't."
You hummed as you nodded your head.
"Would you say this caused you a lot of emotional distress?"
"How couldn't it?"
**
"You know, this is a very important event for your boyfriends father."
You stood by the table full of delicate foods, sipping a glass of overly sparkling water. "I'm sorry—I thought you wouldn't talk to a dumb vulgar low life like me anymore." You shrugged.
He ignored you. "You are looking the part." His eyes scanned over your body. "Can't say the same for my cousin."
You followed his gaze and you saw Adrien standing next to his father, wearing the same basic design he had been wearing for the past few years. You sighed, shaking your head. "It truly was a battle to try and get him to change."
"One you seemed to lost." He chuckled.
The air between the two of you felt to comfortable, to quickly. Clearing your throat you walked off to find Kagami—leaving Felix with his unfaltering smirk watching you walk away.
**
Your testimony was over and the audience was left in tears. They had allowed you to go off and talk on your own to the court and you described moments Adrien spent with you and your son. It truly was your best performance.
"I was in love with Adrien for the first few years of high school." Your sister was speaking now.
Most of her sentiment you tuned out. You sat next to Luka flexing your hand and unintentionally stabbing your nails into your skin.
You felt a warm hand pick up your tense one. Your eyes peered over at him but he wouldn't meet them. He took your hand into his and unfolded them, running his thumb three times over your sore palm. He placed your hand on the arm rest of your seat and placed his on top of it protectively.
Felix snorted behind the two of you—but you tried your best to ignore him.
"He should really keep a better eye on you."
"I'm not some dog."
"Why aren't you down at the party still?" His voice was calmer, he almost fooled you into thinking he truly sounded concerned.
"I'm not good with—all this." You motioned your hand around the room.
"Not good with being alone in a room with a scarily handsome stranger?" He asked as he motioned towards Adrien's childhood bedroom.
"You're a pervert."
"No, I just know how to get what I want."
"What's that supposed to mean?" You asked with a furrowed brow.
He stepped closer to you. You were seated on the edge of the bed and he stepped right in between your uncrossed legs. "Are you really so blind?" He whispered, his eyes trailing you once more. "I have been watching you all night—more than he has." His hand ran through the length of your hair and you shivered at the feeling of being trapped.
You began to scoot back but he grabbed you by the shoulder and pushed you down. He leaned in scarily close to your face and his nose pressed against yours. "I'm not very good, at not getting what I want."
You took in a deep breath and leaned in closer. "No? Then why don't I just show you how intoxicating I can be." You grinned and as his arm moved you raise your leg and kneed him hard in the stomach.
He flinched back and you scrambled out from under him.
"Why you bitch-" the relief you felt quickly vanished.
"Hands off, Felix."
Your head turned and your eyes met your boyfriend's brilliant green ones which were only further accentuated by his black mask.
"Ah—a hero." He shook his head disapprovingly. "Aren't you supposed to wait to show yourself until someone gets akumatized."
"Not when I can sense someone in trouble." He was tense.
"Really? You could sense the terror of this woman from—wherever you were? Does that mean you've been close by all along?" He stepped closer to the hero, he really was incredibly pushy.
"Where I was is none of your concern. Leave the girl alone." He was demanding.
"Ah, so my hunch was correct." Was all he said before he walked towards the bedroom door. "She's all yours, Chat Noir." He left chuckling, once again sending nervous shivers down your spine.
"Are you okay—did he hurt you?" Adrien was clinging to you, detransformed, in less than a second.
You shook your head. "No—I'm alright now. Thank you." You smiled, though it was forced. Something wasn't settling right with you—and you couldn't figure out why.
You were right to be worried though—Felix now knew the identities of two miraculous holders.
**
"Felix Graham De Vanily." The defendant read off. "You are the nephew of Gabriel Agreste, correct?"
"Yes, though I must make it clear I'm the maternal nephew."
"You want to make it known you have no blood relation with the accused?" He clarified.
"Correct."
"You grew up with your cousin, could you further conclude to our jury his innocence?" The defendant was so positive, but the chilling look on Felix's face sent you into a panic.
"Actually—your honor." He turned his head. "I'm not so sure my cousin is innocent."
You heard the gasps from the audience, but the three of you only stiffened. It was expected, but dreaded.
"Why would you say that?" The defendant was flustered.
"Well, he is a liar—"
A rumble was sent through the courthouse. Before anyone could react the doors slammed open and Marinette ran to the nearest door.
In came a large sentimonster—heading directly for Felix.
