22. Music and Reminiscent

Part 2
He couldn't believe his eyes.

Weeks ago, he had received a call from an unknown number.

"Hello?" He asked hesitantly, his voice had been gruff as he sipped his third morning coffee.

"Is this Luka?" The unknown caller asked and he couldn't help but noticing how the voice sounded familiar, just older.

"That depends on who's asking." He huffed.

"Oh! Sorry, silly me! This must be weird. It's Marinette Dupain-Cheng." She giggled and his eyes widened.

"Marinette?" His response was breathy.

"Yeah! It's been a while hasn't it." Her laughter died down and Luka found himself nodding as he looked around his apartment. His cat padded towards him and he smiled, picking her up and allowing her to curl in his lap.

"Yeah, it has." He answered with a hum.

"Well—I'll get to it then! Y/n has been on tour with her band, but she has her last show coming up in about a month. It's in one of those venues downtown your dad used to play at." Luka's eyes widened.

He knew you had joined a band a couple years back, but he had no idea that you all were going to be back in Paris so soon.

"That's...awesome." He whispered, unsure what his next response should be.

"Okay Luka I'll be real with you here." She started and he stiffened with how firm her voice was. "I know about the promise you made to her all those years ago, if you want to uphold it and prove to her you are the man you swore you would be, then I can get you tickets. If not though, stay the hell away from her."

Luka's breath hitched in his throat. "Can...I get back to you?" His whisper was shaky and she hummed.

"Of course, but I'm just letting you know I already don't like the indecision, but I'll let it slide for now."

As he opened his mouth to respond she ended the call.

Luka had stood in the crowd anxiously. Marinette had managed to get him floor seats and a backstage pass, it was more than he could've asked for.

He was a bit ashamed to admit it, but he had been hoping for a moment like this since he let you walk away from him nine years ago.

Nine whole years without you.

Now, as if all of that had never occurred, you stood there on the stage. He wouldn't have been able to recognize you if it weren't for the billboards around the world. You had only gotten taller. Your hair was much shorter now than it was back then, but you still had a fun touch of color dyed into it. He noticed how much muscle you had put on since your teenage years and he smiled at the strong woman he saw before him.

There was one thing that hadn't changed, your voice was as beautiful and intoxicating as it ever had been.

That was the first way he had found out you were in a band.

It was three years earlier, and the dj announced that there was a new hit single about to air.

He had recognized your voice instantly, and he couldn't have been more proud of you.

Now, standing there so close to you, all the waiting felt so worth it.

"Hey Y/n." A smile tugged at his lips once he saw your surprised expression.

"When they said I had a few fans waiting to meet me backstage, I never would have guessed it was you." You smiled gently.

Luka was so much taller than you remembered. Age had caught up with him, much like it did with yourself. His hair was still as vibrant as it used to be, but it was cut much shorter on the sides of his head. He wore a loose white shirt with a comfortable looking blue flannel to keep him a bit warm on this mid fall night. He wore a pair of ripped black jeans and a pair of fun designed shoes, much like the ones you still wore.

"I am full of surprises." He winked and you felt your eyes roll instantaneously.

The feeling was exhilarating, it was almost like you were sixteen again.

"You always were." You smiled and his eyes softened.

"Would you like to catch up? I know of a coffee shop that is still open around this time." He offered and your heart skipped a beat.

You opened your phone to check the time and smiled at your favorite picture staring back at you. "It's getting a little late..." You murmured, knowing you needed to be home soon.

"What's wrong city girl?" He teased, "Old age soak all the fun out of you?"

You raised your brow at the challenge and matched the grin growing on his face. "Luka, like always you and I have different definitions of fun."

His smile softened and he held out his hand. "Please? I promise I won't keep you all night...well unless you want me too." He grinned and you slapped his hand and walked towards the stage left doors.

"There's no way in hell. I could use a coffee though." You waved him on as you walked out of the building, pulling your jacket tightly around you.

The two of you walked down the street, occasionally bumping shoulders as you went forward. It felt awkward but at the same time, natural.

"I feel like I'm betraying my parents." You whispered as you walked into the tiny bakery that was about ten minutes away from your parents.

"What are they going to do, ground you?" He teased and you rolled your eyes.

"Sabine is a very scary woman." You laughed and he nodded in agreement.

The two of you sat in the corner of the shop, surprised that you had gotten through unnoticed still.

"What kind of crazy person drinks black coffee?" He gagged as you shrugged and took a sip.

"A tired one."

Luka snorted. "Well I'm sure that's what happens when you're on the road all the time." He shook his head and you simply nodded in agreement, knowing you had a long list of reasons, other than being on the road, to be tired.

"So what have you been up to these past nine years Luka dear?" You asked with a cheeky grin.

Luka smiled softly. "Well for a while I was helping Juleka and the others with their band. I didn't want to play in it, I had no desire for the attention, but I was managing it. They replaced me with this guy named Micah."

"We're you any good? Maybe I should hire you." You smiled as you placed your elbow on the table and rested your chin on the palm of your hand.

Luka rolled his eyes. "No I was horrible. Their new manager actually managed to get their song on the charts."

"I heard they broke up not to long ago." You added sadly.

He shrugged. "They just didn't enjoy playing together publicly. Juleka and Rose are both together still and I think they're going to release a song just the two of them."

You smiled happily. "I'm so glad they're still together. I've been keeping in touch with them as often as I can. Life really does get busy." You sighed.

Luka nodded. "It definitely does." He chuckled. "Now I'm finally doing what I love, actually creating the instruments." Your eyes softened.

"I'm really happy for you Luka."

He waved his hand out in front of himself, embarrassed. "I mean it keeps me busy! Hardly know what's going on outside my studio anymore." He chuckled. "What about you? Did you do everything you dreamt of?" He asked.

He noticed your eyes lightened up when he asked and a smile tugged on your lips. "I was a flight attendant for an airline for about three years. I actually ran into Bob Roth on one and he told me that your father talked highly of me. Next thing I knew we were in the recording booth and he signed me." You explained the very condensed version of the last nine years.

He smiled brightly. "Did you get to see the world?"

"Almost every part of it." You beamed.

"That makes me feel like it was worth it then." He nodded knowingly and your brows furrowed. His eyes were still pinned to your face and he couldn't help but chuckle at the familiar expression that you were making.

"What was?" You questioned.

"Letting you go without a fight." He whispered but you heard him just fine.

You tugged on the ends of your hair as your eyes moved to stare out the window.

"Let's get to the juicy stuff—how many people have you kissed?" He asked cheekily and your eyes widened as your face burnt up.

"Excuse me?!" You almost screamed but clamped your hand over your mouth to quiet your disbelief.

He shrugged. "What? I'm curious."

"You have no shame." You hissed and he bent back laughing.

"I guess not."

"I'll only answer if you do." You stuck your tongue out at him and you noticed his expression soften again. It had every time your mannerisms reminded him of those days when you two were only sixteen.

He rolled his eyes, knocking you out of your trance. "I've kissed six." He shrugged like it was no big deal.

"Who?" You asked almost shocked.

He stared at you almost as if he was trying to decide if he should elaborate. Your eyes inspected his face and you really took his features in again. He had always been quite handsome, but maturity really suited him. You weren't surprised at all that he had kissed what seemed like so many to you at the moment.

"Well there was a girl when I was about twelve, her name was Clara. Then you were next. I didn't kiss a girl for another four years after that, her name was Jen. Then there was Micah, he really is very handsome. I had a girlfriend for about a year before I opened my business, her name was Leslie. Then I think I kissed Chloe one drunken night." He snorted as he went through his list.

You weren't sure which surprised you the most. "You kissed Chloe?!" Yep, it was that one.

He laughed as he threw his hands up in defense. "She's changed a lot. We talk from time to time but she's married now anyways."

You nodded, already knowing that.

"What about you then? Who and how many." You cursed internally, hoping he wouldn't circle back around to that.

You chewed on your bottom lip. "Four."

"Oh Y/n, so innocent." He teased.

You threw a napkin at his face. "Fuck off."

"Who are they?" He inquired, ignoring your return to using poor language.

You rolled your eyes. "You, Zoe, Kagami, and A-"

"Wait, Wait." He held up his hands before you could reveal the last person. "Zoe and Kagami? I didn't know you were into girls too."

"I didn't know you were into men." You countered and he nodded.

"Touché, but to be fair I didn't either."

"I mean I always had a suspicion, but I didn't feel the need to label it. Plus I was so fixated with you and Adrien that the other two didn't even cross my mind for a while." You shrugged.

"So how did it happen?" He asked.

"Well Kagami and I were both experimenting. It was completely consensual—but never went any further. Zoe and I well that was more complicated. We were never officially anything, but we were definitely together for a couple of months." You felt your cheeks burn again, embarrassed to be talking about your love life.

He nodded. "What happened with that?"

"I reconnected with the fourth person, it made me realize I wanted more and she just didn't want that with me. We're all good though and her and Jess are married and living New York."

He blinked. "Wow. Good for them."

You nodded happily. "It is, they're really great together."

"So who is this fourth person-" He began to ask as your phone rang.

Your heart stopped when you noticed your sister was FaceTiming you. You accepted the call and the screen was black momentarily since the connection was spotty.

"Marinette? Is everything okay with-"

"Mommy! Auntie played your show! You were so cool tonight!" Your son beamed as his beautiful face came into view.

You stiffened, knowing Luka just heard everything. "Thank you baby." You smiled and blew him a kiss. "Now you better head off to bed, I'll be home soon to tuck you in and kiss you goodnight, okay?"

He smiled and nodded. "Okay mommy."

"Now go give Auntie Mari her phone back!" You scolded and he nodded hurriedly as he ended the call.

Your eyes met Luka's. He remained very calm but his eyes clearly showed his shock and confusion.

"You're...a mother?"

I couldn't help myself...I have three chapters written so I posted early
