‡ Prologue ‡

"Kuu, you're so slow!" a blonde turned to look for his best friend who was supposedly behind him.  "C'mon, Kyuu!" his silver eyes gleamed with anticipation as he looked around.

"Mou~ You're so loud, Baka Sora," a voice from the bushes made the boy turn to peek in the bushes.

"What are you doing there, Kuu?" Sora tilted his head, curious.

"...Something was making a noise...like tap, tap, tap," was the simple explanation given by the one year younger brunette as they crawled deeper into the bush.  The baseball cap on his head got knocked off as he crawled deeper.

"Oi, c'mon, let's gooo, Kyuuuu!" Sora dragged the distracted brunette out of the bush comically as he reached for his hat, and the five-year-old and six-year-old continued running through the park towards the playground.  Nobody seemed to be around except for a vendor or two, and the children quickly made their way into the secret nook behind the slide.  Protected from all curious eyes, Sora grinned at his best friend who he had just met yesterday.  "Kuhei!  I just had the greatest idea!  Let's start a band!" he pointed into the air with childish authority.  "I'll be the the leader, of course, because my mom and dad said I can start guitar lessons!  And you can play the drums!  Because you really like drums!"

"..." Kuhei didn't seem to be paying attention.  He had picked up two sticks and was tapping the floor aimlessly.  "Mm..."

"Oi...Kyuu," Sora poked the brunette's head, annoyed.  "Pay attention.  And then, maybe your parents will be our bosses!  Because they work in the music company thing, right?"

"..." No reply.

Sora twitched.  "Oi, K-"

"Kuhei!!!" Someone was calling from the edge of the playground.

"Mh, Toru-nii," Kuhei suddenly perked up, struggling to his feet.  "My brother's calling me..."

"Oi, you can't leave yet!" Sora trailed after his friend with a flail.

The brunette's older brother looked up to see the blonde flailing after them.  "Who's that?" he turned to ask Kuhei.

"Mh, Sora.  My friend."

"No, not just any friend," Sora held out his hand haughtily.  "BEST friend."

Kuhei grinned a bit - faintly, but it was there - and nodded slightly.  "Yeah...best friend."

Toru just nodded.  "Are you coming then, Sora?"

"Yeah!"

As they entered the large estate, Sora's eyes widened.  "Woah..." he grinned.  "This is a huge house!!!"  When they entered the hall and started putting their shoes away, Sora glanced at the shoes on the rack.  "Mh, Kyuu, you have a sister?"

Kuhei glanced up from unlacing his shoes, his chocolate orbs showing confusion.  "No...those are mine..."

"..." The information sunk slowly into the blond five-year-old's head.  He cautiously pulled off the baseball cap of the brunette.  "You're...You're a girl?!"

Kuhei stood up to hi- her full height - which was still shorter than Sora - and punched him.  Hard.  "You really thought I was a boy?" she finally asked after she calmed down a bit and Sora finished howling.  She rubbed her short brown hair while blowing a stray strand away from her face.

"Haha, yeah," Sora rubbed the back of his head.  "Don't worry.  You'll still be my best friend," he decided, slinging his arm around her shoulders.  "And we'll still be an awesome band!!!"

"No."

"Aw, c'mon!!!  I'll steal your hat if you don't!"  And with that, Sora ran into the house with the baseball cap in tow.

"Give it back!"

At age six, Meiji Kuhei was already an expert at percussion of any sort.  Her parents were prestigious musicians from the Music Academy of Tokyo, and her grandfather was well-known for owning the most famous music company in Tokyo, BeatStep.  She had a bright future ahead of her, as did her older brother Meiji Toru, who was skilled in crafting instruments, especially violins.  However, at the age of eight, drastic news fell upon Kuhei.

"Your parents died in the bullet train accident a couple of hours ago.  You're moving to Osaka to live with your grandfather, along with Toru."

"I'm moving, too, Kuhei.  And my parents are going to send me to a really cool music school there!  You should come with me!"

Kuhei was at a loss of words.  "Sora, I can't just leave my family like that," she remembered saying.  "I...I don't want to have anything to do with music anymore."  And with that, she had ran away.

"Wait, Kyuu!" Sora had grabbed her arm before she ran away.  "It's okay.  Stay with your family.  But don't say that you'll have nothing to do with music anymore.  You can't do that."  The nine-year-old had a serious look in his grey eyes.  "It will kill you.  I know it.  Promise me that you'll keep making music."

Kuhei just mutely nodded.

"Oh, and another thing...remember when we were younger?  And I told you to make a band with me?  I wasn't kidding," Sora put on a smile and held his hand out.  "Do it with me."

The brunette just stared at his hand.  "No.  I'm sorry, Sora...It just wouldn't work..."

The blonde hesitated, then hung his head.  Suddenly, he looked up with a determined face.  "I'll make the best band!  But it'll only be the best when you're in it, so I promise you, I'll make it the best band ever!"

Kuhei's eyes began to tear up, but she quickly rubbed it away.  "Then do it, Baka Sora!" she yelled, running back into the house.  "Do it, or I won't forgive you for being a failure!"

And with that, Kuhei had never seen him ever since that time they parted at the estate...

However, Kamichika Sora, in the meanwhile, was making a name for himself in his all-boy band reMANant.  And Meiji Kuhei pursued the normal lifestyle she yearned for in Osaka under the careful watch of her grandfather.  Since he was nearing eighty, Grandfather had passed his position over to Kuhei and Toru's mother's younger brother.  However, that did not mean that he never stopped loving music, but continued to instill the love within his two grandchildren.

The blonde sitting in the airplane played with the small baseball cap in his lap with a blank stare straight ahead.  How long had it been since he's last seen her...no, too long, for sure.  His silver eyes took on a softer look as he glanced down at the blue and white cap.

"I'm back, Kyuu...I hope you can forgive me now."
