4 / 3 = UNREQUITED LOVE

Last chapter, although it was kinda realistic-ish, whoever dies isn't as much — much — of a big deal in the anime, just saying though. But I'm not saying that I'll change the chapter because I like it that way anyways.

Reason is because this is a school AU — a kinda modern one if you think about it — so killing is less known and more feared in a way.

~*~*~*~*~

The bell chimed through the academy, signaling how classes were already coming to a close. Students and teachers alike left their classrooms almost immediately after clearing their desks or fixing their things. Some stayed for cleaning duty on their hands while the fortunate ones either roamed around the school or left immediately. Some doing intimate actions along those lines — or horrible actions.

The ravenette and (Hair Color)-nette walked out of the building, bags tossed around their shoulder and left swinging. Gon then questioned innocently, "you and Killua have been hanging out a lot since last year. Are you guys now dating or something?" Her lips twitched slightly and wanted to scoff at that question.

If they ask that question, say yes. Even with the others.

She bit her lower lips in anger and wanted to scream her real answer to ravenette. Her eyes threatening to burst out of their sockets with the pent up fury held within her. But instead, "yes, we're dating..." She gritted through her teeth in a low whisper that Gon was almost oblivious to it.

"You sound angry," he worried, "did something happen or-"

"Sorry, Gon," she apologized quickly, "I was just frustrated because of a small fight I had with Neon about dating and she thought it meant something else because of her dad," she lied through her teeth. She knew it was a flimsy excuse, but if she ever thought of telling the truth, she was afraid if she could still see Gon the next day for that.

He stared at her skeptically before smiling, "I'm glad you tried to help her!"

"Yeah," (Name) nodded.

"See ya tomorrow, (Name)!" Gon waved at her with his eyes glazing overflowing enthusiasm and optimism, a smile crossing his face that reciprocated the emotions his orbs shone. Said female smiled softly at his antics and waved a small 'farewell' to the boy too. Her (Skin Color) became a bit lighter than usual but that didn't stop the sun's rays from kissing her tender complexion.

She shook her head at the endless energy stored in the now second year boy's body. I missed his energetic personality, she thought sadly, reminds me so much of me before- "(Name)!" Her ears perked and her body stiffened once the familiar and horrible pale arms entrapped her. She could feel light breathing right close to her collarbone which sent her back shivering. (Eye Color) eyes dulled once again in his presence.

They never shifted from their spot and from a different angle, they could probably be mistaken as some cliche drama with the boy asking for forgiveness from the girl. If only they knew how darker the situation is.

"You're still not gonna talk to me, aren't you...?" Sadness hinted in his voice as Killua whispered. His arms tightened around her waist. "I already allowed you to spend time with Gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and those other two I mentioned before... why do you still resist...?"

Oh, how she wanted to push him away and slap him across the face with a satisfied look. Being forced with rules in order for her to never leave him — as well as have her to himself — and keep her the way he met her. Stupid to let her communicate, right? The answer was no. Even if she did warn them, it was futile because he was always somewhere. The (Hair Color)-haired female knew this as well. She isn't dumb to think that he would freely allow her to do whatever she wanted.

He loves her. But that doesn't mean he could trust her enough to follow the rules. If she does break it, he'll become stricter than before with his rules to the point the (Hair Color)-nette wouldn't be able to talk to anyone again.

The plan was flawless that he thought she would change her mind. Any guy — other than the ones he allowed — who dares to approach her without his permission won't be enjoying a happy life. If they survive with one, that is.

What didn't help was the fact that she could never go up against him, an ex-assassin. A Zoldyck at that fact.

She threw him a harsh and hateful glare while he just buried his face into her neck. "You already know why, so stop trying," she sneered through her teeth. "It's bad enough I can't meet new people because of you..." at the mention of this, his eyes flashed a dark glint while his arms tightened almost immediately. "I told you, only the ones I mentioned, right? Unless you fall in love with them, that is..." her eyes widened.

Her hands instantly latched onto his arms, only to feel his own modified hands poking at her clothes that immediately cut a tiny hole through. Her lips trembled in anger and hatred with tears brimming from her eyes. In a situation where she's stripped from her freedom and forced together with a lovesick ex-assassin, who wouldn't feel that aching pain and have tears watering their view. And hearing that even they would be killed because of her probably future actions pained her the most.

Why me...?

When his hands returned back to how they were, she pushed herself away from him and ran. Ran as far as possible from her 'hidden' captor. Even if she couldn't tell anyone, at least she could have enough time for herself. Just before he could sweep in and steal it from her.

Killua watched her form get smaller and smaller as she left the school campus. His gloomy expression now fading into one voided of any emotions. His sapphire orbs that would glitter multiple emotions in her presence dimmed without it. Without her by his side once again. His fist clenched tightly with his nails digging deep into his skin, blood trailing down his knuckles but went unnoticed by the people around him.

Everything I do... he glared effortlessly at his dark blue and white boots. She ignores it... Nothing makes her happy anymore. Everything I do doesn't make her happy anymore... It pained him to let anyone near her, even his closest friends, but seeing as she wasn't who she acted anymore, he was reluctant per say.

He was very possessive and letting others except him near her was like cutting himself. But if it was the way to retain everything about her that he loved — her in general, then he'll let this pain eat him until she would return his feelings. It was aggravating to watch her not smile at him anymore, but he knew she would soon.

What increased his caged infuriation was how when she stormed off, devious and mocking eyes laughed silently at her. He could hear from their conversation that they mistaken the situation as the girl leaving a relationship.

They aren't wrong with that idea.

Still, he stuffed his pale hands, ignoring the blood that coated his palm and now soaked his pockets, into his short's pockets and calmly walked towards the small group of girls. He almost burst in laughter at how their eyes brightened from his entrance. The fangirls that never had a chance with him in the first place where his love did.

"Hey," he nonchalantly spoke with a smile devoid of life, however it was never seen clearly. "I see you saw what happened," he continued. Some looked uncomfortable while some smirked. "If she knew she couldn't stay with you, then she should've never tried," one of them laughed, which brought the others to laugh along with her.

She stole my heart and I'm already hers. She doesn't need to try better because she's the best for me and only me.

His eyes flashed red before chuckling along with them. The ones that were uncomfortable wanted to leave, almost pleadingly as they fidgeted around the boy's presence. "Yeah, you're right," he lied through his teeth smoothly.

"Also," another spoke up, "you have to be careful about this murderer around! A few of the people here have already been killed and I don't want you to be one of them." She spoke in great worry and concern over him while some stared at her with a frown. "Hey! Don't say that!" The one from earlier complained, slightly shoving her friend playfully.

"Okay," Killua just nodded, "thanks for the heads up. See ya later." He waved his hand shortly before ignoring the girls completely, turning his back to them as they were either giggling or squealing at the interaction. The royal blue-orbed male didn't care about it though. They can scream all they want, his smirk deepened at the thought.

Just enjoy laughing. You might not be able to again.

"Damn brat..." she stifled a sob in an effort to keep herself from breaking. Her eyes becoming slightly red from how much she'd rub them over and over as her nose became a beer red as well. They weren't as visible, but the tears she shedded before left their marks feint. All because she saw herself at the center of the problem whenever the silverette would be involve. An entire year after the traumatizing incident back at the alleyway left a huge reminder on who she's dealing with.

Where she ran to was one of the most cliche areas to where a relationship would begin and where it'll, sometimes, end — the park. She almost wanted to laugh at how she would always come here at her brightest moments and never during her worst. In fact, she never knew how long she hadn't been to the park without his company ruining the sweet moment.

She sat on the swings, the cringing noise it'd make reminded her of how unbearable it must've been for the victims whenever their bones would become dislocated or crushed. It didn't sound as close but it was to her ears.

Sure, she's seen people killed before and it didn't leave a huge impact on her. But when it came from him, she could only become as stiff as stone and cold as winter. What Lady Luck only left for her was the small freedom of having Gon and a few others around as her company left. But even with this, she knew she couldn't say a word about what really happened, more or less the situation she was in now.

And it's obvious why she couldn't include the only family member — her dad — left to help.

"Were the signs obvious?" She questioned despondently. She thought back to every situation that she had been in with the boy before the tragedy laid itself on her doorstep — but nothing was revealed to her. "C'mon, I'm not that oblivious..." She grumbled, swaying her feet whenever she would push herself off the ground.

The (Hair Color)-haired girl shut her eyes and leaned her head onto the chain holding the seat below her up. "Why couldn't this just be a dream?" She spoke in an undertone. Her tears had already stopped but that didn't mean she couldn't let her own guilt and sadness out. No one was around and that was what she needed at the moment.

The silence she was surrounded by was a surreal mix of serendipity and tranquility; peaceful. The swing ended its movements gradually which left the girl to breathe in the silent breeze that tickled her face. A smile graced her face from the quiet condolence of the wind. I just wished that he didn't become this. It's not like I regret meeting him. Just...

Her eyelids fluttered open to reveal her red and puffy (Eye Color) eyes. "I guess I should've specified what I meant when I told him I liked him," she huffed humorously, "maybe it wouldn't be too late for this to happen? Maybe..." she looked over her shoulder and found the sun smiling it's lazy rays on her. Almost telling her to 'be careful' or 'goodnight' as it was slowing slipping into the horizon. Guess it's my cue to leave, she sighed before lifting herself from the swing and walked back to her home.

"People sure have been a bit careful lately."

She glanced at how not a lot of civilians were roaming the street in the dad of night anymore with only a few of them either cautious or unaware at all — maybe even courageous. "I can't blame them though," she added, continuing her walk back to her familiar home. She wanted to leave, disappear, anything! Even if it hurt her to leave Gon and the rest, they would be a lot safer without her.

It didn't help that I can't be safe in my own home because of him...

She brought her feet onto her doorstep and latched her (Skin Color) hand onto the doorknob. A chill shot through her heart. How she loved to use her instincts to help her in dark situations, but now it's something she absolutely loathed.

She held a breath and twisted the knob hesitantly. God, help me... she pushed the door open once she heard the signature click before entering her home. It was quite and dark, just like how she left it. Nothing moved and nothing added. No Killua. She exhaled in relief and shut the door behind her.

She didn't even try to reach the couch properly as she flopped over the back of the couch, (Hair Color) threads sprawled across the seat as she faced the large black screen upside down. (Name)'s eyes only widened when she stared at the reflection of the television that showed not only her, but someone behind her. Those familiar sapphire spheres.

She flipped from her position and stood a good few feet away from him. "So you still won't love me... after everything I've done for you this entire year?" His voice gradually increased from his mumbling. She rolled her (Eye Color) eyes. "Maybe because I didn't want you to do those things for me!" She shouted slightly, angrily furrowing brows.

"Like I said, the chances of that possibly happening was lost when you killed him!"

"And like I said, he ruined everything between us! Can't you understand that?!"

"I guess I can't! Because it's bullshit!"

His eyes lost every anger he had before softening, sending the girl into complete bewilderment.  She was still angry, but she couldn't stop her mouth from gaping at the unusual sight. Is he bipolar now!?... "I missed doing this with you," he sent her a sad smile, something that didn't involve possessiveness nor bloodlust. "Arguing like this. I know it isn't as violent as this, but it brought back the moments where you actually smiled at me.

"I just want that again... Is that really so much to ask for?"

She almost felt her heart squeeze at the sympathetic scene. Almost. "Then maybe you should've thought about that before killing Adyn, right?" The ex-assassin froze from the sudden harshness before glaring at her. They were portraying the struggle and possessiveness he held back for so long now.

"You know," he started, "I could've just kidnapped you and killed everyone else. I could've killed or threatened Gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and those who got so close to you. It was painful watching you be happy with them and see you glare at me. But no, I had to make you love me the same way for how I fell for you. Even if it meant to watch them interact with you, you're still angry at me..." the snow-haired boy muttered in a hushed tone.

All her anger finally drained from her form as she gave him a stoic expression. "Sorry, Killua," his heart flutter from just hearing his name slipping from her tongue. "But you must accept the fact that your love... is one-sided."

No... it's not...

"There could've been a chance that I would love you..."

There still is...

"But I think you should find someone else since loving me would hurt you more."

I can't...! I won't...! Because I love you... only you...

"No matter the cost."

(Name) heard him murmur. "Huh?"

"No matter the cost," his eyes lost any emotion he ever had at the moment. "I won't stop loving you, even if it's one-sided. And seeing as you've gotten stubborn, I think I might become a bit more strict with my rule." At the sound of this, her eyes dilated as soon as the words left his mouth.

She gritted her teeth, "why can't you just let this go?! Going to the point of killing someone for me is wrong! Everything you're trying to do for me is wrong, damnit! Understand!? It's bad enough that people are dying because of me, but knowing that there are families weeping over the people they lost because of me... it's unbearable!

"Because unlike you, I feel guilty for every death! And you could be blamed for it because of me!"

Silence blanketed over them so heavily with the girl panting for air. After her whole speech, she was left inhaling for oxygen, trying to ease her heart from her venting. She searched for something in his eyes full of conflict. Did my words mean anything to him? She wanted to get out of the nightmare she — possibly — made and help the ex-assassin and herself out of it.

When the corner of his lips curled down, she was close to breathing out in relief, before the feeling of both her wrist being clammed by his modified hands caused another scream of shock to erupt. "I'm sorry that you put yourself to blame for everything... and that I'm being too harsh on the rules..." he brought the (Hair Color)-haired girl closer as she could feel his breathing against her own skin. Blue orbs staring intensely full of insanity and lust.

Her face devoid of color once she heard his statement.

"But if it's to keep you with me, then I'll take that very risk."

She pulled at her wrist, only to feel him tug at her harshly, his lips crashed onto hers passionately. She tried screaming but they were muffled. It was disgusting to her. But Killua enjoyed every moment before pulling away for air.

"I still love you," he smiled softly in a daze, watching her face red from the lack of air earlier, "and you will return them whether you know it or not."
